I Hate Cake—But This One Changed My Mind

I’ve spent years dodging birthday slices, declining dessert menus, and side-eyeing frosting like it owed me money. Not even as a kid did I like cake. Cake and I? Not friends. Everything i got to try was great, but then came this ube and coconut cake and OMG!!!!

It didn’t just taste good—it rewrote my dessert beliefs. Moist without being mushy, sweet without the sugar assault, and layered like a symphony. The texture? A velvet rebellion. The flavor? A sermon in indulgence. I didn’t just eat it—Im forever converted. Thank you!!

Flouring Cake Shop – A Beautiful Dessert Destination in Chinatown LA

I’ve visited Flouring Cake Shop several times, and each experience has been consistently wonderful. The shop itself is charming, decorated in soft purple tones, with a clean and modern feel. Staff are always polite, welcoming, and knowledgeable about their products, which makes the experience even more enjoyable.

The cakes here are truly special. They are elegantly decorated—often adorned with edible flowers and artistic details—making them perfect for both everyday treats and special occasions. The texture is slightly lighter than many traditional American-style cakes. The buttercream is smooth, not overly sweet, and balances beautifully with the cake. While it is not an Asian-style cake (not rubbery or overly moist), when eaten at the right temperature and on the same day, it has just the right balance of softness without dryness.

Flouring offers both individual sheet cake slices and full custom tiered cakes for events. Their flavors are creative and well-executed, including passion fruit, lavender lemon, black sesame, strawberry, and seasonal specials. Beyond cakes, they also serve unique desserts like Pavlova with yuzu, buttery shortbread cookies, and scones with oats—something between a traditional scone and an oatmeal cookie, deliciously balanced and not too dense or dry.

The price is big for a small piece but I have to say their cake is fancy, beautiful & delicious. It is worth it.

Overall, Flouring Cake Shop is a gem in Chinatown LA. Whether you’re looking for a beautifully decorated whole cake for a celebration or simply want to enjoy a refined dessert with unique flavors, this shop is well worth a visit.

Lovely cake and prompt service! Ordered a custom cake for my friend’s bridal shower, and the pistachio flavor was a hit! It’s a tiny shop on a busy street and parking was a challenge when I went for pickup, but Cortney was very responsive and accommodating from the time I first contacted them to the day of pickup. I’m glad I found them and would love to return to try different flavors!

I cannot _believe_ it's taken me this long to review Flouring LA! Hands down one of the cutest bakeries of all time and 10 out of 10 delicious! Amaaazing flavor combinations that change seasonally, the owner is a Chinese-Latina LA native with amazing taste! Her most popular flavors are the black sesame cake slices and Ube. All her baked goods pair extremely well with the coffee you can get next door and I love the shortbread cookies with the coffee. My partner and I have visited a handful of times so our tips are: get there early because they sell out, parking is usually street, grab a coffee from next door and order 3-6 cake slices and cookies to split and take home.
Its great for couples or pairs on a lazy weekend and you can migrate over to Chinatown when your done eating to pickup some $5 pants lol

I drove to Chinatown from Irvine because I have been following this shop on Instagram and I had to try it! I ordered the Lavender Marble cake for my 29th birthday! It was excellent. The frosting wasn’t too sweet and everyone loved it! The lavender flavor wasn’t overpowering, either. I will try more flavors in the future! Thank you so much for making my day special. :)

Bought a cake here. Dry, hard, and seemed to be too old. Not coming back here.

I reached out to Flouring LA through email, to see if they would make a cake for my wedding. My fiancé and I narrowed it down to a few flavors to test out. In the end, we went with the heart shaped Lambeth, Japanese black sesame. The cake looked and tasted AMAZING!!! Courtney made the entire process so easy. Thank you for being so helpful and accommodating. You’ve answered all our questions/concerns and have made this an easy process for us!

It's very hard for me to find pastries and cakes that I enjoy, and this hands down has the best, softest cakes ever. I had the sampler box, and i went home and enjoyed this with some hot chai, and every cake slice was better than the next!
