This is my second time at Hatch. Loved the ambiance and the service was outstanding! Anthony was especially great! Great customer service! I loved the soft shell crab taco so much so I ordered it twice. 2 of the dishes I tried weren't my favorite but overall food was good . Will definitely be back preferably with a group so I can try more dishes!
What a smart and creative menu! We found Hatch totally by accident and what a happy accident it was. Started with the Blue Fin sashimi - great opener. Tuna Tartare Toast, Squid Ink Karaage, Soft Shell Crab Taco and Duck Breast - everything was crave-worthy. Highly recommend for lunch or dinner. Lovely people working there make it a great meal.

Unique, meticulous, interesting and flavorful! Everyone working there was responsive and seemed to really care about the food and us.
A fun evening sting delicious yakatori at the bar with my wife in a very living DTLA setting.

Our evening at Hatch was fantastic, start to finish. We were a small group of coworkers visiting the area for a convention and everyone had a great time sharing this wonderful food. With mostly vegetarians in our group, there were more than enough great options - the eggplant is a must!
Amazing service and great tasting food. The food is unique and flavorful, the cocktails delicious, and the space is fantastic
Perhaps my favorite meal of the year. We had dinner here the other evening. There is ample parking available in the parking structure. The ambiance is ultra-modern.
We went with the tasting menu. You get their favorite items for $55 a person. And many of these will become your favorite items as well.
Even though they have a full bar, we decided upon a mocktail. They have a seasonal one and it was nice and refreshing.
The miso corn soup begins the tasting menu. The sweet grilled corn balances nicely with the salty miso soup.
The tuna tataki handroll is a thick cut slice of tuna. The tomato and shallot salsa pairs perfectly.
Next is the miso beer spare rib. The rib is marinated in Sapporo and the mest just falls right off the rib. I could have eaten a full rack of these ribs.
Their most popular item, the squid ink karaage is next. The best tasting karaage I have ever had is taken to another level when you add a squeeze of the fresh lime and dip it into the black garlic ranch dip.
The yakitori skewers are next. The ahi tuna yakitori is thick cut and absolutely delicious. The mushroom party yakitori is so flavorful. The chicken meatball yakitori needs to be mixed in the perfect sous vide egg yolk for another level of flavor.
The crispy on the outside onigiri is the perfect ending to the tasting menu.
If you still have room, get the grilled Fuji apple. It is a baked Fuji apple with ice cream, fresh berries and a sesame butter cookie. If they sold the cookies, I would buy a dozen.
Fantastic service and easily my favorite meal of the year will make this a place I want to come back to time and time again.

I genuinely enjoyed almost every aspect of my visit — the food, service, and atmosphere were all excellent. The menu reflected skill and care, the servers were attentive and professional, and the setting was comfortable. For most of the evening, I felt I had discovered a restaurant that valued both its craft and its guests. Unfortunately, that impression was tarnished by the addition of a 3% “service charge for kitchen staff.” While the amount is small, the principle behind it is troubling. This kind of charge has become an unfortunate trend — an unnecessary and shortsighted policy that undermines an otherwise refined dining experience. If management truly wishes to improve the welfare of its kitchen team, the correct approach is simple: pay them more and adjust menu prices accordingly. Guests should not be asked to subsidize internal wage structures or be presented with hidden surcharges at the end of an otherwise fine meal. It creates the impression of nickel-and-diming patrons and raises awkward questions about whether tips are fairly distributed among staff. When restaurants do this, I adjust my gratuity accordingly — typically reducing it by the same percentage as the imposed fee, then base it on the pre-tax and pre-beverage subtotal. It's not an act of stinginess, but of principle: fair compensation should be the employer's responsibility, not the diner's burden. It's a shame, because this establishment clearly strives for excellence in every other respect. But policies like this leave a bitter aftertaste and cast doubt on management's judgment. I hope they reconsider this ill-conceived surcharge and return to transparent pricing — because a restaurant of this caliber deserves to be remembered for its food and service, not for a petty fee that diminishes both.
Solid spot for Japanese skewers and small plates. We tried the Tuna Tataki Handroll, Miso Beer Spare Ribs, Squid Ink Karaage, Yaki Onigiri, Ahi Tuna Skewers, and Chicken Meatball Skewers. Everything was really good—the ribs were tender, the skewers had nice flavor, and the small bites were all well done without feeling over the top. The spot is tucked inside The Bloc in DTLA. It’s laid-back enough to pop in after work or for a casual dinner. Drinks are solid too, and the menu makes it easy to share a bunch of different plates without feeling like too much. Overall, it’s a reliable choice if you’re in the area and want some good Japanese eats without any fuss.

Loved our dinner at Hatch. Service was great- very attentive. When we could not decide which sake we wanted, they let us taste a couple. Then you get to choose your own glass - which is a fun little experience.
Food was so delicious. Everything we tasted was phenomenal. Love that they have small plates so you can taste a variety of things. Definitely get the ahi tuna and the mushroom- with hot sauce.
The vibe is fun. They have fun sayings on the employees shirts. Great place to go as a group, couple or solo.

Loved the yakitori. The standouts were the pork belly, bacon wrapped shishitos, chicken breast, and the seaweed salad. The pacing of the dishes was inconsistent and it felt like servers were spread too thin. Everyone was running small plates, and no one focused on offering more drinks. Overall a good meal.
I had high hopes based on other Yelp reviews, but our experience was just “meh”. We ordered several small plates: Seaweed salad-fantastic Lamb lollipop- overcooked, but well seasoned Mexican prawns- prawns were fine, but spicy chili sauce was one note. Hot, but not very flavorful. Mushroom party-very good Soboro rice- terrible, devoid of flavor or seasoning, just a bowl of steamed white rice with flavorless chicken on top. Quail egg was lost in the blandness. I ordered the Ghost Malone for my cocktail, which was great. The hostess was friendly and accommodating. Our server didn't have much sense of urgency when we asked about our food delay. She wasn't rude, she wasn't friendly...just meh.
