Pretty decent yakitori spot. Think its a little overhyped. Ordered a couple of skewers. Nothing too memorable. Perhaps it's the skewers I selected.
Ordered Mexican jumbo shrimp, hamachi, mushrooms, shishito Peppers, blackened fried crab roll, and broccoli.
Not certain I like this place enough to return.

Cute small plate Yakitori on the lower level of the shopping center. The restaurant is surprisingly spacious. That being said, unless you are traveling solo like I was, I would probably recommend a reservation.
They were able to seat me at the bar where I got a great view of the kitchen prep as well as the bartender in action. I skipped drinks this trip and decided to treat myself to their tasting menu. You won't get everything on the menu, but you'll get the best they have to offer and all the fan favorites. Tie for my favorite goes to the Pork Belly & Black Chicken.
I left full and considered stopping back for a second meal later on in my trip. Needless to say, I'd recommend and will try to fit in on any future trips to LA.

I really wanted to like this restaurant and I'm honestly so disappointed in it. We were a party of 8 with two people from out of town.
The Service:
Completely deplorable. The server was incredibly rude and never came to the table. When he did, he would do exactly one thing. Answer a question, take a single person's order, or deliver a single plate. We had multiple, I'm not kidding. Literally multiple times where somebody wanted to order something and he just walked away. In fact, it took three such visits for two people at our table to even get a single drink. Considering that in the end we ordered over $1,000 worth of food and drink. You would think that somebody who is about to get tipped would care at all. By the time that we left, our original server had completely disappeared and somebody else who we were never introduced to had to be called over to get our check. I would say we were there 2.5 hours in total.
Food:
The two standout dishes were the oysters and the squid chicken. Other than that, there was nothing in particular that I would recommend. And quite pricey for the amount you get.
Overall, I just cannot recommend this restaurant at all. It was disappointing, pretentious, and the food wasn't worth the frustration.
LA has zero shortages of good food. Go somewhere else.

First timer. Ribs amazing. Fall off the bone. Pork belly perfectly cooked. Wine options limited. However good choices for the menu. Service however is another. Host greeted promptly. Server seemed confused. I received a water glass without water. My meal was taken to a wrong table and only was made aware by the table acknowledging that they had something that they didn’t order. Slow to check in. On the upside the music is fun. Then there is a shift change and I am totally forgotten. Hoping my next visit the service is better

We booked a reservation on Resy on Christmas Day. Hatch apparently failed to turn off their reservation service. I received a confirmation text. I received a confirmation text to confirm my reservation was in a few days. Then in one hour. I paid $4 for parking.
The restaurant was closed so I wasted 50 minutes. Total failure on the restaurant's part.

The unassuming exterior gives little clue that it’s a yakitori spot within. Step inside, and you’re greeted by a modern space that flirts with Japanese roots—sleek, clean, and minimalist with a collection of beckoning hand cats perched thoughtfully atop the bar. It straddles modern and traditional, never fully committing to either, leaving the space feeling a bit in limbo.
I started with shishito peppers, which were fine but unremarkable. They lacked the smoky char or simple seasoning. Then came the chicken meatball yakitori—solid but didn’t quite soar. The meatball was tender, and the dip added a velvety richness, but it left me wishing for a punchier flavor—a missed opportunity. The wagyu burger & fry yakitori was a clever take on comfort food, a skewer meets slider hybrid, though it leaned more towards novelty than something amazing.
The black softshell crab taco with apple slaw was a bizarre combination and a clear miss. While the crab itself was decent, the apple herb slaw tipped the scales into a realm of oddity—it’s a concept that needs serious rethinking stat. The squid ink karaage brought things back on track. These jet-black, 48-hour brined chicken thighs, dusted with aonori, delivered a surprisingly satisfying bite without a hint of burnt flavor. Paired with the black garlic ranch dip was a nice finishing touch.
The star of the night? The bone marrow, served alongside grilled mochi bread to swipe through the luscious, salty marrow. The shiso vinegar cut through the richness, making it indulgent without being overwhelming. If you come here for one thing it is this.
For dessert the binchotan brownie paired with green tea ice cream sounded super promising, but the execution was just...fine. While the flavors worked, it lacked the wow factor needed to end the meal on a high note. I didn’t even finish it.
Service at HATCH was efficient but lacked the warmth or polish to make it memorable. The overall experience was a mixed bag of hits and misses, with moments of promise offset by missed opportunities.
Cute little spot in the shopping mall to get some yakatori. I honestly didn't know what to eat. So I got the prefix lunch menu and it was good.I enjoy my chicken karage, and meatball on a stick. It didn't look like it was very big but I actually felt full after I was done good for lunch.

Great place to have drinks and yakitori with friends. Restaurant is located at the Bloc right on top of the metro station. Parking can be validated by the restaurant, and it is obvious that the plaza is well employed with security guards to keep patrons safe.
For Drinks, we tried the Paper Plane and Yuzu Sour and they are both delicious and packs a punch, no weak drinks here. It looks like their cocktail menu is also on rotation, so you won't get bored with the choices.
The food is where Hatch shines. The highlight is the beef tongue, which is extremely tender and full of flavor. The squid ink karaage is jarring to look at first, but the squid ink is mostly for coloring (and pictures), and doesn't really contribute much to the taste. The chicken was quite fried, and perhaps a bit over fried.
We also got the miso ribs to share, and those are great with a slight kick and a thick syrupy glaze. The sweetness is a little bit over the top for me, but I think most will find it very pleasing.
Their re-imagined burgers and fry is quite funny, with the burger being 3 meatballs on a stick that comes with ONE large fry. The meat is tender, and it's a good alternative for those who may not be fully invested in the traditional yakitori options.
We also had the chicken wings, ahi tuna and eel on skewers. Both are pretty good, and up to a standard you would expect.
Overall, HATCH is a great place to visit in DTLA and I will definitely go back to keep trying new items and cocktails.

The squid ink karaage was an absolute showstopper. Amazing textures, deep flavors throughout, and the squid ink-infused dip was incredible. A must.

It was our first time at Hatch and me and my husband were very impressed by the quality of the food. Our waiter James was exceptional. He explained the whole Menu options to us. The Japanese Whiskey selection was excellent as well. 100% recommended.
Little bit of a hidden gem here! Great date spot, fun upscale atmosphere, friendly wait service and good food!
Pricing is a little bit high but you're in DTLA and the presentation is fabulous so it feels justified!
