Our first visit to dine before a show at the Taper. We dined across the menu. Everyone enjoyed.. Salmon miso salad was delicious. Salmon perfectly cooked. The wait staff was attentive and friendly. We will be back.
I had a truly fantastic time at Hill Street Bar & Restaurant! Beyond the delicious food, the striking interior decorations—especially since it seems to have been during the Halloween season—added a special, fun dimension to the entire experience.
🎃 Ambiance (Themed Decor):
The sheer size and detail of the decorations, including the massive pumpkin-headed figure and the witch figurine, made me feel like I had stepped into a themed attraction. The bold and unique decor, set against the exposed brick and ceiling structure, brought a lively and distinctive energy to the whole restaurant. It's clear the owners put effort into creating a unique environment for the season.
🍽️ Dishes Ordered and Review:
1. Seven Hour Bolognese:
• The name says it all—you can taste the dedication in every spoonful of the sauce, which is simmered for a full seven hours. The wide pappardelle noodles perfectly absorbed the rich, concentrated Bolognese, delivering a deep and satisfying flavor profile. This dish was incredibly hearty and flavorful. The final touch of an edible flower made for a beautiful presentation.
2. Prime Rib French Dip with Salad:
• This sandwich was visually stunning, packed with tender Prime Rib on a baguette, generously topped with crispy fried onions (or similar crispy topping). The richness of the Prime Rib was superb, and the textures—crispy topping, soft meat, and chewy bread—created a perfect bite. Dipped into the accompanying Au Jus (beef drippings), the deep savory flavors were amplified, making it the perfect iteration of a classic French Dip.
• The side of fresh salad offered a refreshing counterpoint, with crisp vegetables and dressing that cut through the richness of the main dish perfectly.
✨ Overall Impression:
Hill Street Bar & Restaurant offers more than just a meal; it provides a delightful experience. The combination of excellent Italian cuisine (the Seven Hour Bolognese is a must-try!) and the highly personalized atmosphere made for a memorable visit. I would highly recommend this place for a date night, special occasion, or just a fun evening out. I’m already looking forward to seeing what theme they adopt next!

Steep walk to Music Center venues! No parking. Otherwise, a good meal in a comparatively quiet (but crowded) restaurant.
We dined before a show at the Disney Hall. The service was prompt and the food was very good.

Scrumptious meals with live bands combo... They're amazing 😊
You see that small cheese on top? That's the best part!!! I came in a group and we all unanimously agreed to come back here. The coffee is mandatory.

From someone who is always in DTLA for work, this is my go-to spot for lunchtime. I have tried a few things on the menu, but the chicken pesto is my go-to. All the waiters are really nice, including the owner, Dan.

Arrived just after happy hour but would come back to check it out. The service was fantastic! Had the Trapper Dan's Mai Tai which hit all the right notes. Ordered the pasta primavera and was happy. Also had to get the chocolate chip cookies.

Our servers were so accommodating and kind. The food is meh. Small paper napkins which housed a fork, a spoon and a knife. Paper mat covering a cloth tablecloth. This restaurant doesn't really know if it wants to be fine dining or casual. It was convenient for us (we were going to Disney Hall), but I don't think we'll be back.
This was a great find! The atmosphere, service, and food were all phenomenal! The Shrimp Crostini was delightful, and the Tuscan Salmon was cooked to perfection. Oh, and let’s talk about the cocktails! Delish!
