Holey Grail Donuts in LA is a must-visit for anyone looking for a unique donut experience. Their taro-based donuts, fried to order, are a refreshing departure from the usual offerings. The flavors are creative and inspired, using fresh, locally sourced ingredients, and there’s a good mix of both sweet and savory options. The donuts are light, crispy on the outside, and perfectly chewy on the inside. Plus, their eco-conscious approach, using sustainable ingredients and biodegradable packaging, is a bonus. It’s a bit pricier than your average donut spot, but worth it for the quality and originality.

Donuts were surprisingly small for the price. Customer service was good, sweet friendly service. Once we ate the donuts however all 3 of us noticed that the flavor was heavily oily... I know that coconut oil is used and they all just tasted like the oil was burnt and a little old. It was hard to taste the flavor of each donut because the coconut was so overpowering. Again the price for such a dainty mini donut, although love how fresh the service is, just isn't worth it.

Dietary restrictions: All donuts are gluten free

Kid-friendliness: Nothing dangerous to grab for kids

Wheelchair accessibility: Very broad wide door for wheelchair

Original Sin Donut - Hawaiian vanilla bean, salted maple / 5⭐!

Reincarnated Donut - maple, smoked coconut, Hawaiian sea salt / 5⭐!

My first visit to Holey Grail Donuts was an absolute delight in so many ways.

To start, they use a special taro root starch base inspired by their Hawaiian origins. It was really amazing. It is a bit hard to describe since it is not like the two main types of donuts 99% of American donut shops use. It is a bit like a cake donut but much softer and melts in your mouth as you enjoy it.

Next, they use all natural ingredients and have a heavy focus on sustainable, ethical ingredients. Everything is handcrafted and assembled when you order, including frying up the dough with an adorable little frying machine that sits on the counter. This means that every single order is super fresh. Also, the entire menu is vegan, which is a plus.

The size of the donuts was perfect. They were smaller than pink box donuts but also not bite sized. I'd argue they are pretty mcu the perfect size. These four donuts were easily some of the best I have ever tasted.

The store was colorful and fun. I loved that they had a taro plant growing in the window with a small sign saying it was on its way to being a future donut. The donuts are the star but they also have a specialty coffee and beverage menu. The staff was very friendly and helped explain the concept to me and how it all started.

This store is on Larchmont Blvd which means parking can be tough. But if you don't mind a short walk, I always just park one block over.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I saw they use taro root as a base but I was blown away by how truly amazing these donuts are. If you are on the fence, I recommend taking a chance and giving them a try.

Better than Krispy Kreme! They make the donuts FRESH to order in front of you! They melt in your mouth! The presentation is also amazing. The boxes are embossed and they do little things to make sure everything looks great. The classic glazed is our favorite but they have a rotating menu and just added donut holes as well! Their 4 for $16 deal is the best price. They are a little small but they're very sweet!

Cooks in coconut oil so healthier than most donut places. And they have a J Dilla doughnut, so you know they know what’s up! Apparently the donuts are vegan but you wouldn’t be able to tell, they’re tasty, and they come out hot and fresh.

Fresh made to order donuts - I am not a donut person my husband popped in here because he had seen them online and we are just visiting…we got a box of 9 and I planned on having one bite and ate the whole thing! The kids loved them - in the 9 box you get all the flavors and the fruity ones were a total hit and the rose sugar one. You do wait about 10-15 minutes for them to make them so if you are in a hurry maybe order ahead but we just walked around a bit and came back. It’s a cute area.

Just Me

HoLey HeaVen! These are a warm, mouth melting delight. I like the size cuz it makes its point and its point is valid. At least to my taste buds. The point to the pocket? Meh. But so far I’m down for every donut flavor’s cause. The cinnamon sucker inside of my tummy gives it up for Chaga Chai. Looking forward to exploring more flavors
…and checking out their drinks, too!
