Cold food, some items seemingly undercooked, and ended up giving my girlfriend and I stomach issues for a couple days. It’s not all bad, good server and the unagi were pretty good. Disappointing that it took the better part of two years for them to open and this was the restaurant they delivered.

Raw chicken and black avocado… the hell man, very disappointed. Wanted to change salad 1 min after ordering and they said couldn’t change… very bad experience will never go again

Dining for one at Izakaya Dongame, new store in the neighborhood n got their signature Pork & Veggies Okonomiyaki- Osaka style, light n delicious with every bite. I like their service’s recommendations on their crispy rice with spicy tuna on top n a helping of deep fried takoyaki, warm miso soup, and a side of onigiri. Their sushi dog, spicy tuna & sushi ginger was small, yet packed immense flavor. To pair it up with shochu with ginger ale highlighted my night.

I was excited for it to finally open after seeing the sign in the window for so long.

I went with a few friends to try it. We ordered the 7 types assorted yakitori, potato salad, agedashi tofu, and Osaka-style okonomiyaki. The potato salad and agedashi tofu came first, we thought it was delicious. Next we received the assorted yakitori. Everyone agreed it was so-so and even overheard the table next to us shared our sentiment. The chicken, scallop, and fish were dry, and the unagi was cold. It seems like the yakitori is not made to order? Last, we thought the okonomiyaki was disappointing, mostly batter and lacking in fillings.

Overall, I don’t think I recommend it based on our first experience. It might be worth revisiting in a few months.

A bit overpriced, out of everything we got, the grilled mackerel was the tastiest and the only thing we’d order again — the $3.99 beer and sake is ONLY FOR THE FIRST ROUND.

Apparently Dongame is chain in Japan, but I’m not sure it will thrive here with the array of other options in yakitori, sushi, and other Japanese cuisine.

I’m so glad to have a delicious and authentic izakaya here in echo park! I lived in Japan for many years and the flavors here bring me right back. It is more of an upscale izakaya than cheap pub food, which I also appreciate. It’s cool to sit and the bar and see the well oiled machine that is the kitchen at work. Service was excellent too. I can’t wait to go back and try more items off the large menu! ご馳走様です!

This restaurant blew me away. I visited Osaka last year and all the food we had here, down to the rice and miso soup, tasted as if it came straight from Japan. We had the okonomiyaki, chicken fried rice, and a couple of their "sushi dogs." It was all mind-blowingly good. I'm so happy this place opened just down the street from my house, but I would travel just to come here as well. I can't wait to come back to try more. I can't think of another place where you can get this kind of food this good.
I haven't been this excited about a new restaurant in a long time!! I cannot recommend enough!!

I was very impressed. The atmosphere is bright, the service was very welcoming and kind. I enjoyed the cucumber salad and the tempura. The prices are not bad at all, either. Will definitely be coming back!

$4 for a small skewer with the dryest thigh meat you've ever had. No togarashi available.

The karaage is decent and is an okay value.

At least the service was pleasant and the beer was cold.

Had high expectations knowing that it came from Osaka but it was underwhelming unfortunately. Having lived in Japan and having Japanese family we know what a great Izakaya is like but this missed the mark. Poor presentation, not actually having items that were listed on the wall, missed bringing us a few items, Highball ads everywhere but no Highballs and lack luster taste overall. A few of the “sushi dogs” were ok, and our Japanese server was kind at least. Good place maybe for just shochu, wine, beer and small bites on the side which I suppose a run-of-the-mill Izakaya is anyways!

Don't expect anything from the management here.
The number of openings has been increasing for over a year.
