Family-owned John O'Groats is a gem of a restaurant. The dining guests are Los Angeles' finest. I stopped in again today for brunch and spoke with several other guests, who were beyond delightful. The food is excellent and the waiting staff is good, too. The waiters do not tend to ask if everything is okay after the meal is delivered, and no one refilled my coffee, unfortunately. But putting that aside, the atmosphere, the cleanliness, the laughter, the biscuits-and-gravy and the joy all make the dining experience over-the-top. I first dined at John O'Groats when they opened in February of 1982. They have become one of the best places for breakfast and lunch on The Westside. Thank you so much. Breakfast for one runs about $40.00.

I've been coming here since the 80s. Such a great place run by a great guy. No corporate nonsense, just good food and caring and attentive staff.

Not thrilled with this place. We had a really long wait time despite several open tables, and once we were seated, our food (one french toast combo and one pancake combo) took over thirty minutes to arrive. The couple next to us was seated after us and literally was paying for their meal and leaving by the time our food even arrived. It also took a long time to get the check because our waiter disappeared. We eventually got our check from someone else, and I couldn't even review what I ordered on the receipt. At the same time, she was hovering over me while I put in the tip on the digital card reader. It was an 18% minimum tip, which felt high for the service we were (not) given. It was also noisy and there was no air conditioning on a hot day. The food was decent but the prices were very high. After tip and tax I paid $60 for two people. I don't plan on going back.

Wow. I came to this place because of a dear friend who I was supposed to meet for lunch but accidentally came a week earlier for the luncheon. I decided to eat here since I drove all the way, anyway.
Everything about this place is good. It is a neighborhood favorite for forty-three years.
I sincerely hope you will try this wonderful eatery with an incredible hospitable atmosphere and food.

Wonderful atmosphere with delicious food.
What a suprise to be greeted so warmly. The food was delicious and the service was the best I've had. By the time we left the host knew all our names. That's when I knew I'd be back! Overall, A+!

The food is genuinely so very good and I'll be coming back! The biscuits remind me of the scones I grew to love in the UK - they're just missing clotted cream ;)
The star lost is just for all the upcharges and service, I was really surprised by some of the upcharges, like $10 if you want to split the bill and almost $4 for maple syrup. We also weren't offered milk for our coffee or syrup for our pancakes, we had to flag down someone to ask.
