Katsuya was an incredible experience. We went there for a date night and was absolutely in love with everything we had. We had the Katsuya Chef's Tasting Menu ($85 pp) which included 1. Hokkaido Scallop Sashimi: This was sublime! 2. Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice: This was probably the highlight of the entire meal for me. Spicy tuna always slaps and the crispy rice had a very delicate hint of toasted sesame oil. Très bien! 3. Lobster Tempura: I've never really been a fan of tempura but this one was just exceptional. It was such a nice flavor. I think there was a hint of cheese. But whatever it was, I want more. 4. Wagyu Ishiyaki with Wasabi ponzu: I'm always sceptical about red meat and love it with more flavor infused. So, I was pleasantly surprised when I really enjoyed this. The wasabi ponzu, thinly sliced radish and shiso leaves were the whole package! 5. Specialty rolls: These were well-executed but I was mind blown by the rest of the food that I'd had and the flavors that were exploding that this did not leave a memorable mark for me. But still so good! 6. For the main course, we had a choice between short ribs and the cod. I went with short ribs. This was probably the best sears ever! I also loved the braising jus. 7. Finally for the dessert, we had the Miso Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Bean Marshmallow, Sesame Cremeux, Salted Caramel. It was an amazing dessert to finish things off. They had a few wine offerings, which I enjoyed. Our waiter was super sweet and ensured that we were occupied throughout. He was very knowledgeable and gave great recommendations. I loved the ambiance on the inside. Though it's near one of the tourist-y parts of LA, once you're inside, you don't realise how busy it is outside. Overall, I enjoyed this spot immensely. 15/10 recommend.
Pretty good experience. The ceviche in particular was our favorite (enough to get a second order). Birthday wasn't acknowledged as per the reservation. I sent the restaurant a message, but never received a response.
Service and food was exceptional as always, the staff always make sure my guests and I have a great time.
An exception to many Hollywood restaurants adjacent to tourist landmarks. So many establishments don't put the effort in because they know they may never see visiting patrons again. But Katsu-ya maintains their high quality of service and food. As fine as the day they opened (2007). Go-to dishes for me include the Spicy Tuna on crispy rice, which delivers savory texture, temperature, and flavor. Brussels Sprouts are next level, leafed like tiny lettuces and broiled to crisp-edged perfection. Any sushi you get is going to be delicious and the portions are surprisingly generous. Not cheap but reasonable. You get what you've paid for, for sure.
Portions are laughable, shrinkflation is hitting katsuya very hard. Business must not be great because it's clear they are keeping portions small to boost margins. Katsuya is most definitely not worth the price anymore. Sad to say. This used to be a great spot to go out. Music was loud and did not fit the vibe. Don't get me wrong—I like Kendrick, but if I have to hear “they not like us” one more time I'm going to lose my mind. Idk man, just play something that fits the ambiance of a nice restaurant.
Amazing food! Our waiter knew we were going to the Harry Potter play and serve our food and drinks in order for us to make it on time. Harry Potter drinks are amazing!!!!
Everything about this place is wonderful. The food and service is always beyond par. The only downside is the drinks are pretty pricey. I had a single vodka and soda for $21. That to me was extremely expensive otherwise food is great. Wish they would stay open a little later
Very bad experience !they were out of every kind of sake except the $500 one !server was not feeling it !
Felix was absolutely amazing. There’s tons of great sushi spots in LA but not all of them have waitresses as amazing as her!

My first visit to Katsuya and it was a very pleasing experience. We were early for our reservations so we sat by the bar and ordered drinks. My lychee martini was the best I've ever had! I drank it so quickly and wished I had slowed down to savor it.
We were seated soon after that in the main and more elegant dining room. I didn't realize there's another dining room that's more casual, and I'm glad we weren't seated there.
Our waiter, Anthony, was very experienced, as he's been with the restaurant 12 of the 14 years it had been at the Hollywood location. We were impressed with his service.
For appetizers, we ordered the roasted the roasted Brussels sprouts (quite salty) and the rock shrimp (generous, delicious and hearty).
For the main course, I ordered the Tomahawk short ribs and my friend ordered the grilled salmon. It was quite good.
We ordered a side of grilled forest mushroom, even though the salmon did come with some. I wish we were offered a side of rice or some starch to go with our entrees.
As an aside, I have to mention the bathrooms. I didn't take any pics because it was incredibly dark in there. Like unusually dark and dungeon-like.
Overall, this was an exquisite dining experience.
Vegetarian options: Only the vegetables are vegetarian.
Parking: We parked in a paid parking lot and paid $13 extra to park longer, since we were going to have dinner after our show at the Pantages.
Normally it would be only $8 to park from 1-6 pm (our show was 2 pm). We wanted to park until around 8 pm and it cost $21.
Kid-friendliness: This is not a place for young children. It's for adults to enjoy a nice dinner out.

First time trying their happy hour here.
Just started with a Ceviche Lettuce Cups. One of the Ingredients includes “ crispy rice noodles”. The dish comes and we noticed this ingredient isn’t there. We kindly ask the server and they went to ask the kitchen staff. It’s kind of sad that a high end restaurant like this would run out of such a basic ingredient. If I was the manager then I would never allow this to happen. Also their website says that this location isn’t open but we happened to walk by and it was so we decided to try it.

On November 9th, 2024, we had an incredible dining experience at Katsuya Hollywood, and it was all thanks to our server, Luis. Despite the restaurant being packed due to multiple shows in the area, Luis provided top-notch service that truly exceeded our expectations. He was attentive, personable, and managed to make us feel like a priority, even in the midst of such a busy evening. Every question was answered with a warm smile, and he seemed to anticipate our needs before we even had to ask.
Luis’s expertise in the menu was impressive—he offered thoughtful recommendations, and each dish arrived perfectly timed and beautifully presented. His genuine enthusiasm for the food and his dedication to our experience made the evening memorable. We were blown away by how seamless everything felt, despite how busy the restaurant was.
Thanks to Luis, our night at Katsuya Hollywood was flawless. His exceptional service made a busy evening feel relaxed and special. Highly recommend requesting him as your server if you’re visiting—he’ll make your experience unforgettable!
