My boyfriend and I got the omakase but to be honest it was not worth it, the food tasted great but you can get almost the exact same course by ordering the 10 piece nigiri from the menu for half of the price. The atmosphere is nice but not appropriate for a traditional omakase. Highly recommend, just save your money and skip out on the omakase.

Koto’s take on the traditional chirashi bowl is nothing short of genius. The sashimi cubes are fresh and lightly topped with savory seasonings that elevate the flavors. But it’s the rice infused with delicate nuances, creating a harmonious balance that perfectly supplement the chirashi sashimi. Hands down, this is the best chirashi I’ve ever had, and I’ve sampled it everywhere.Next up, the Doburi, and I stress "the". Oh, my taste buds rejoiced! The steak was seared to perfection—juicy, tender, and bursting with umami. Each bite was a celebration of craftsmanship, and the satisfaction afterward was unparalleled. At that point, we couldn’t resist ordering the Salted Salmon and the 7-piece Nigiri set. And the nigiri—oh, the nigiri! Each piece was a miniature masterpiece, but I won’t delve into details; you must experience it for yourself.VerdictIn summary, Kodo is a culinary haven where flavors soar and creativity knows no bounds. Whether you’re a sushi aficionado or a curious food explorer, this restaurant promises an unforgettable journey. So, don’t miss out—reserve your table. I know I'm coming back tonight.

My wife and I recently traveled to LA, we picked to come to this restreraunt after a couple of items caught our eyes on the menu. To start the drinks and bar tenders were amazing, for our first couple of bites the Shiso Sea Bream Ceviche paired well the drinks to start. The monkfish liver mousse was a complete surprise lots of flavour and butteriness. For the Omekase set, the Hotate with yuzu was amazing, melting right after it enters your mouth. We also loved the Spicy Tuna Crispy rice as this was a flavor bomb. The staff were great, bar manager Brent had a awesome conversation around their experience and unique relationships with the distributors. We went back the next night and Yuhi remembered us from the first night, pulled major strings made it happened slid us in and made sure we were taken care of.The Food brought us here, but the service and flavours brought us back.

I've been wanting to come here for quite some time, so I decided to come with my girl friends for my birthday dinner. Upon arrival, they offer valet parking - otherwise, you're going to have to snag street parking nearby. The entrance as so beautiful and captivating. It felt so serene. Minimalistic, but with modern aesthetics. We were able to sit in the outside patio area. This area seats best for 4-5 people. They also have a private dining area for bigger groups available too. I took a look at the seating inside, which were mainly bar seating and table seatings for 2 options. The table seating for 2 did not look too comfortable, so I'm glad I came with a group instead of a plus one. We ordered the Blue Fin Tuna Crudo, Ponzu Oysters, Sesame Yellowtail Kingfish, Uni-Mentaiko Cream Squid Ink Pasta, and Miso Black Cod. For drinks, we ordered Carajillos, Lychee Martini, and Yuzu Margarita. We were pleased with all of our orders to share amongst the 4 of us. It was the perfect portion to share to try different things. We did order a second order of the yellowtail, since we did enjoy that more than the blue fin. Loved all the flavor from the uni pasta and the cod, but didn't really care for the green pea puree under the fish. All the drinks were great - we ordered 2 each. Jesse was our server that night. He was a delight. It was a slammed night for the bartenders and servers, but he made our evening very pleasant. He did mention that the building will also serve as a small hotel soon, which I thought was very interesting. Definitely recommend trying this spot out!

A couple of my friends had been raving about Kodo and how good it was, so they took me to try it for the first time. I definitely thoroughly enjoyed every dish we had, and I'm excited to come back in the near future. The service was friendly, down to earth, and attentive. The atmosphere was aesthetically cool and stylishly low light. To start, we had the umami brussel sprouts, sesame yellowtail kingfish, charred oyster mushrooms, shiso sea bream ceviche, ponzu oysters, and bluefin crudo. Then for our entrees, we had shared the uni mentaiko cream pasta and the braised chashu pork kakuni.Umami brussel sprouts were deliciously cooked with the outer leaves crispy and the insides perfectly cooked topped with what looked to be seaweed, red ginger, sesame seeds, and some sort of puree on the bottom.Sesame yellowtail kingfish was covered in a sesame sauce and topped with a chili crunch and sesame flakes. Charred oyster mushrooms were covered in toasted almonds and dried edamame on top of cilantro edamame hummus.Shiso sea bream ceviche was topped with cucumbers, shallots, shiso sauce, and served with a side of sesame crackers.Ponzu oysters was topped with grated daikon, negi, lemon, and ponzu.Bluefin crudo was topped with pickled cucumber, takuan, wasabi, sweet onion soy, and seaweed.Uni mentaiko cream pasta was squid ink pasta topped with cream sauce, uni, spicy cod roe, yuzu marinated ikura, cured egg yolk, and fried shiso leaf, Braised chashu pork kakuni was kabocha puree, topped with thick cut pork belly with a curry glaze and topped with pickled red onions.Every dish we had was absolutely delicious and I would definitely order every one of them again. My favorites were the braised chashu pork kakuni, uni mentaiko cream pasta, umami brussel sprouts, and the sesame yellowtail kingfish. I highly recommend Kodo. 5 stars!

Recently, I ventured over from OC to LA to see what the hype with this place was about & it did not disappoint! Yugi, the amazing host even helped us take the best photos & was so inviting when we arrived. The Japanese art and ambiance was minimalist, cozy, warm, and an art form in itself. I love the massive volcanic rock they use as a desk! It's stunning! On to everyone's favorite - the food! Check out the photos. They speak for themselves. The sushi was top tier & fresh with stunning plating. Our servers were Jesse & Harmony (they are awesome!) who were so knowledgeable & helpful when choosing meal selects. Favorites of the night: Charred Oys Mushrooms, gobo chips & the 10 piece Nigiri! You definitely don't want to miss this place when visiting Los Angeles, catching up with a friend or date night. We will be back!!

The sushi is heavenly. It's an incredible tasty twist on sushi classics and the classics they do taste out of this world. What the hell does that mean? For comparison sake so everyone understands, the closet flavor relation this comes to is Enya. They do tasty creative twists to their sushi (also incredible) that have a modern flavor vibe. The alternative to that being Sushi Gen or Hama, which specialize on classic OG sushi without the twist (also incredible) Where Kodo fits in all this is that it's the fcking best in all of downtown (and Los Angeles for that matter). This sushi has the exact flavor profile-ness and quality that I've experienced in the Michelin sushi restaurants in Tokyo. The difference being the setting how and where they serve it. You can get the fancier omakase in the sushi bar part of the restaurant OR you can sit at the hotel bar and get the same equally out-of-this-world sushi. So the experience getting Michelin level sushi can be enjoyed in your sweatpants or pajamas. WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT????!!!!!!They have an epic sake menu. The pours are fat. The bartender said if you want to split the sake order, enjoy half as-is and the other half as a cocktail. That is totally ok! If you're with a friend who isn't feeling sushi they have a fantastic menu of non-sushi items to choose from. It's all good darling, you won't go wrong here. The very casual atmosphere is in line with the other restaurants near this location and fits the downtown way of life extremely well. It's found an epic balance of quality, flavor, portion, and price, without the pomp and circumstance BUT if you're looking for that for a hot date night kind of thing it offers that too inside of the restaurant. Who doesn't love options. This place is perfect.

Matcha latte was a bit too bitter (which means the grade of matcha probably wasn't that high quality). It was also pretty pricey for a small cup of matcha. Feel like other places like Maru down the street have a better portion for the price.Giving 3 stars because the ambiance was definitely great and can see why people come here. I loved the furniture and decorations. The overall vibe was very aesthetic and nice for meeting up with a friend. It's definitely more of an Instagram pic type of place rather than come for good coffee/drinks place. Service was very friendly and nice though. Parking was kind of hard to find since there's only street parking for valet where bestia is. If you're lucky and come in the afternoon, you might be able to park where the bestia valet is before dinner starts. Otherwise might have to loop around the blocks nearby to find parking.

Kodo is undeniably a top 10 experience in the vibrant Los Angeles food scene, and let me tell you, I've been uncovering some culinary gems lately! So, how did I stumble upon Kodo? TikTok, of course! I've been saving places left and right to see if they live up to the hype, and Kodo? It's the real deal! The atmosphere at Kodo is nothing short of artwork. They've truly nailed the Japanese art scene motif in their decor. I've always had an appreciation for Japanese decorating style—it's minimalist, cozy, warm, and an art form in itself. Stepping into Kodo, you're greeted by a beautifully done space, and that massive volcanic rock they use as a desk? A showstopper! If Architecture Digest ever reviews restaurant decor, Kodo should be at the top of their list. Now, let's talk about the food – a solid 10 out of 10! Kudo has effortlessly secured its spot in my top 10 places to eat in Los Angeles. If you're after a sleek and minimalist dining experience for friends or guests, this is the place. I tried multiple dishes, from root chips to oysters, sushi, and risotto, and every single one was exceptional. What sets Kodo apart is their generosity with portions – perfect for sharing without worrying about leaving hungry. On top of the fantastic food, the staff on my visit were outstanding. They offered great suggestions, were attentive without being overbearing, and as I left, every staff member bid me farewell with a smile and a thank you. My entire experience at Kodo was delightful, and whether you're flying solo or with a group, Kodo is a must-visit destination. Trust me, this is a place you won't regret checking out!
