Just finished a fabulous dinner at the DTLA location! We got the Block Bowl and a Combo plate with Brisket and Pulled Pork - everything was delicious, the service was really warm and friendly, and the whole vibe was great! We’ve been eyeing this place for awhile and will definitely be back!!

I had the combo plate , which in every other barbeque joint I have ever been to has at least two different meat choices but not at maple block. As well they are really stingy with the sauce and ketchup, which at $32 I was out of both before I finished. I won't be doing this one again.

Oh how the mighty have fallen… I remember this being a not-so-“hidden jewel” right beside the Grand Central Market here in LA not too long ago. I’m talking 2-3 years ago. I don’t know what changed but holy is everything just worse. First off, the wings and the price I paid for said wings. 1) Stale and small. However, I’ll give credit where credit is due, because I did *enjoy* the sweet taste of smokiness that they had but when everything else about the wings is bad then it is just not good enough to make them palatable. 2) for 6, pigeon sized wings you pay $15. No fries, no drink. Only some sauces that are some of the worst sauces I’ve ever had in my life. I don’t know what the “barbecue” looking sauce was very liquid-ey, and tasted like vinegar? But also they offered some of their “White sauce”: laughable name and horrible taste. One of them only tasted like sour cream, and the other tasted like sour cream plus horseradish, also with horrible consistency/mouthfeel.

Moving on to the Chopped Pork Sandwich. As far as the actual pork goes, smoked beautifully, good mouthfeel and the sandwich was actually decently sized. But, everything else about the sandwich is just straight up not good. They top it off with a coleslaw that is in all sense of the word; horrible. The chopped pork sandwich is also cursed by their horrible “barbecue” sauce. The combination between the horrible coleslaw and the barbecue sauce and the “okay-ish” smoked pulled pork make for the worst bite you’ve ever taken in your life.

I wouldn’t be critiquing this particular place this bad if I hadn’t had a completely different experience last time I visited this location, relatively speaking, not too long ago. I want to see this place thrive and succeed but things need to change. Especially the prices of those outrageous 6 pc pigeon wings.

To whomever responds,

Don’t be sorry, be better

Edit: I decided to look up why the quality of this place had gone down drastically in just a couple of years and it turns out it’s because this is a different restaurant. The previous location was in the same spot and it was called “The Horse Thief”. My review still stands except for me mistaking this location for the previous one as they were both in the same spot.

I love their tritip, fries, and bbq sauce! I wish I could just order a cup of the sauce, lol (the containers for the sauce are super small). The quality of the meat tastes super clean. Everyone is always super friendly, and the food is ready promptly.

Second time at attempting to eat here and both times they weren't serving food "any longer." This last time was a friday night at 7:30pm and I met friends here only to find out no food service. wth on Friday night at dinner time! Never again, don't waste your time.

Kitchen closes at 8 on Saturdays. Much of the menu is not available for online ordering. $5 happy hour beers and $4 tacos during dodger games

Sad!! Lost Opportunity.... The location is the absolute BEST at the Grand Central Market. The food was delicious, The weather was perfect, it should have been standing room only, yet it was almost lonely on the patio. The Reason? The MUSIC was punk grunge played way too loud!! This is not a club. I hope the owners are Trust Fund Babies who don't need the money! Even though it was slow at lunchtime I had to wipe down and clean my table!! It is a truly beautiful venue, I hope someone wakes up to turn this place around. BTW the inside of the Grand Central Market was VERY Busy!!! Good Luck!

Good location to have a beer outdoors and enjoy a bit of the downtown vibe. Just don't expect too much from the food or service.

A nice variety of beers on tap. This is a walkup service. Food and drinks are ordered at the bar. Seating is on a first come basis. Food quality is average to sub par. Chicken salad can with burnt pieces of chicken. The Mac and cheese didn't have the flavorful gooey taste you would expect . The well seasoned fries were definitely a hit so were the tri-tip tacos even though they were on the bit of experience side. Service was ok. We had to clean our own tables.

I would recommend purchasing food elsewhere in Grand Central Market and just purchase your beverage here.

Place isn’t great. The meat is mid and the portions are terrible. Avoid the plate it’s twice the price with a quarter of the meat.

It’s a pretty spot. The food was nothing to write home about, and the bowls don’t line up with the portion sizes, making the dish look under filled. The beer I got was flat. The staff member behind the bar, he had an unkepmt beard, about 50, was dismissive of a young man’s order in front of me. He was asking a clarifying question regarding a menu item and the man brushed him off curtly, generally being condescending. Service like that is a turnoff from beautiful spaces like this.

BBQ restaurant/bar just outside of grand central market, I ordered the combo plate with the brisket. It was very good, I liked all the items from the corn bread, Mac n cheese, and the smoked brisket. The price was reasonable, the only con of the place is that there are only tables outside, often not very clean and with the company of insects.

The brisket sandwich was very delicious. The brisket was very tender and had a lot of flavor. The coleslaw and onions on the sandwich were wonderful as well. This was my friends thought as well. Nice outdoor patio to eat and people watch. This is order and pick up, no table service. But still well worth the visit. Not my first time and I will be back.
