I've been to other Mels and enjoyed the food quite a bit, but at this Mels the food was mediocre at best. The salads were mostly lettuce and the pesto melt was dry with very little flavor and very little filling. It may be the historic Mels but I won't come back.

The French Toast and Chocolate milkshake was great and our server JONAS was kind. UNFORTUNATELY, The kitchen staff was very off…we specifically ordered a double mushroom burger no cheese and they later sent out the burger with cheese?? Well, when we brought it to Jonas’ attention, and he requested it be fixed (the cook just sort of scraped off a bit of the cheese), and sent the same burger back. No regard for the ‘lactose intolerance’ request. I ordered a ‘Grilled cheese sandwich’ with veggies and I received, dry toasted bread with veggies no cheese?!!We still tipped Jonas $23 because it wasn’t his fault per se. He tried but couldn’t deliver as there was clearly a TeamWork issue! ATTENTION Management: Please fix the issue, Mel’s Diner is losing it, and should be more solid regarding their customer service, during this challenging economy.

They have gone downhill fast - waited at our booth for 10 minutes with no one coming to our table - and the place was almost empty. Valet is a huge rip-off, super expensive even with validation. Won't be back.

The food is good diner food. I didn't think I've ever had anything bad there. All I'll say is to always check your receipt when you pay.
Makes sense to visit Mel's if you're a tourist, the vibe is nice but the food isn't that great and it's a bit overpriced. The $24 for deep friend chicken and waffles feels a bit steep for the quality, but the service was good and the atmosphere gives the nostalgia that makes this place popular
I got the lumber jack and the potatoes were under cooked, the vegetables were soft and mushy, the pancakes were over cooked and they only put one syrup packet in the to-go bag for two huge pancakes. Your better off going to the IHop down the street at least you get what you pay for.
