1st here, and I'll be back soon. I had the carne desebrada plate, and it was amazing. Met owner Mr Juan & Chef, friendly. Sat at the kitchen counter, it looks like they take pride in crafting each plate. Super delicious meal, top best places to eat in DTLA.

My husband and I stumbled upon this spot while looking for a good meal before heading back home to Vegas and wow, we were blown away. The food and service were both top-notch.
I ordered the sopes, and my husband got the Peruvian ceviche. Every bite was packed with flavor. My husband is a chef and very particular about his food, but even he had zero complaints.
This was hands down the best meal we had during our trip to California. Whether you're just passing through or live a bit farther out, it's absolutely worth the drive. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in Cali!

Absolutely loved my experience at Mex Perú Gipsy! I had a chicken dish with rice, mushrooms, and vegetables, and it was incredible—the chicken was perfectly tender, juicy, and full of flavor. Every bite felt like comfort food with a gourmet twist. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the staff were super friendly and attentive from start to finish. Can’t wait to come back and try more dishes—this place is a gem!

Title: A Flavor Fiesta with a History Lesson!
Let me start by saying: If you pass by Mex Peru Gypsy and think, “Hmm, looks like your average beans-and-rice joint,” TURN AROUND and walk back in because you’re about to miss out on a full-on flavor explosion (with a side of charm and ceviche)!
We started with the ceviche, and WOW — it slapped harder than my grandma when I said Taco Bell makes good Mexican food. Zesty, fresh, and full of that “I could eat this for breakfast” energy. Then came the quesadilla, which was so cheesy and delicious it made me rethink all my past quesadilla experiences like they were dry reheated tortillas from a sad office potluck.
Now, the beans and rice. I’ll be honest: when they hit the table, I gave them the side-eye. They looked plain. Bland. The background singers of the meal. BUT NO. They were the Beyoncé of the plate — flavorful, perfectly seasoned, and seriously comforting. Like, “I want these beans and rice to tuck me in at night” comforting.
And the cherry on top? The owner himself came over, gave us a warm welcome, and shared the incredible story of how this gem has been open since 1982! That’s over 40 years of deliciousness, folks. You can taste the heart and history in every bite. He was so friendly, I wanted to invite him to my next family BBQ.
We’ll definitely be back — with friends, with family, maybe even with a marching band. Mex Peru Gypsy, you’ve got a fan for life.

5 Stars - A Hidden Gem with Heart and Flavor!
I stopped by Mex Peru Gipsy yesterday morning and was seriously impressed. This place is unassuming but packed with soul. I ordered the Lomo Saltado—juicy beef strips sautéed with onions, tomatoes, and fries, all perfectly seasoned and served with a generous scoop of fluffy white rice. Every bite had that homemade comfort feel, like someone’s abuelita was back there cooking with love. I also appreciated the little touches—like the salsa and green sauce on the side that added the perfect heat and zest.
The vibe is low-key but friendly, with the kitchen action visible right behind the counter. You know it’s real when the pots are clanking and the aromas hit you before the plate even lands.
They’ve got a cool menu with a mix of Peruvian and Mexican dishes—Caldo de Gallina, Parihuela, Tortas, and Tacos. Definitely planning to come back and try the tallarin saltado next time.
If you’re in the area and craving something hearty, flavorful, and made with care, don’t sleep on this spot.
