I am not exaggerating when I say that lunch at Mother Tongue surpassed our wildest expectations. Truly, if I could gave this place 10 stars, I would! Everything from the very friendly, efficient service to the wonderful atmosphere (just loved their decor, color scheme and relaxing background music) to the excellent food was outstanding! They made our wedding anniversary lunch really special! Recommend the delicious black kale salad and wild salmon bowl. Their yuzu pana cotta and soft serve sundae desserts are to die for!! Will definitely be back and highly recommend!

I went a couple weeks ago and got the beet hummus as a starter. It was fine. After that, I got the bass. It was a bit small, but still amazing. Although, I did have to send it back and have another dish brought to me because the first one had shrimp in it. On the menu, it didn’t mention shrimp. But again, the bass and the curry-like sauce that it was served in were delicious. The chef sent out a sashimi dish that was a bit overwhelming, but very good. He even came to the table to ask me how I liked it. I also loved the Verdeca wine and the cocktail with saffron. Very different. Definitely plan on coming back!

Really cool vibe, was perfect for a date. The beet hummus is SO GOOD. We ordered a second serving of it.

Friendly staff, top notch food and plating, and an LA rooftop sanctuary for those of us that need elevation. Highly recommended.

Vegan approved!!!! It’s Playmeite here to give you another episode of her plant based meal adventures. So Mother Tongue has a variety of plant based options.Their menu is separated in a way where you can see everything in detail including the benefits and ingredients of each dish.Ambience is wonderful. Food was delicious. Staff is knowledgeable. I mean my friend and I asked what they would recommend, and our waitress gave us a whole essay of what she thought. ? in general it was helpful as I appreciate people that give you more info than less.I tried the hummus, the mushroom dish, and so much more I can’t even remember lol..Presentation is lovely, there’s something for everyone. The place is hidden and low key in an alley as I’m sure everyone else has mentioned lol. But worth it and a hidden gem around the Hollywood area. Cheers and love!!!! - Playmeite

HORRIBLE! The 7 dishes we ordered , each one was drenched in salt. It was absolutely inedible. The service was extremely slow. Food came out late. The manager and staff did nothing to turn the experience around. Mia was the manager , and Philip was the waiter. Waiter never came around the table. Horrible

One of the best restaurants in town. Criminally underrated and overlooked by the LA Times list of best restaurants. They focus on quality organic ingredients that are good for your body, and deliver them in serious fine dining taste and form. The steak tartare is our favorite. The fish curry is to die for. Panna cotas are great desserts.

The place is located in a building at the 4th floor , you would be surprised to find a nice restaurant looking from the outside of the building .We went for a bday celebration so the expectation were high . We had a warm welcome and there was service for cloakroom ( place your coats) which was very thoughtful . Our Italian wait staff was very accurate in helping us make judgement on portion size , believe it when they say it's good for 2.We ordered :Walnut Muhamara : comes with tortilla chip sized freshly baked pita bread . Muhamara was delicious and great as an appetizer .Coho Salmon - It was yummilicous buttery w bed of couscous and veggies with some crispy chickpea . It doesn't come with a sauce but it's not dry the veggies offer the moistness to go along with the salmon .Jidori Chicken - extremely flavorful and well cooked chicken that just melted away . The sauce was the hero which complemented well with the chicken.Desert : Yuzu pana cotta was complimentary for the celebrations and is the best . The Granny Smith apples gave it the taste that you couldn't stop with one . Sesame tulie (cracker) a bite of it clears all the sweetness and ur ready to have the next scoop .Overall had a wonderful. experience and would suggest this place for any size groups abs celebrations .

I booked for my birthday and my friend's birthday, we both have the same birthday week.I'm so disappointed about this place. It's just mediocre overpriced typical Hollywood restaurant.I have a few true reviews for this restaurant's cuisine. The host, Sophia, she was friendly.Food : Korean short rib : DON'T INSULT the Korean BBQ like this. It's horrible, and the plate setting was so disappointing ! Taste bad.Don't order this. It's wasting your money.Second, the servicer, I forgot her name, she said she is Mongolian. Honestly, I don't understand NOTHING that she said about the menu. she was rushing everything, and I felt awkward. IT WAS TWO PEOPLE BIRTHDAY! 1. Chicken with curry was SO-SO2. Sea Bass - no seasoning, smells so much fishy. Small portion, it's just horrible ! PLUS THE LOCATION this place located it upstairs of building. It's very tricky to find. All of us, four people, were hard to find the place. You probably call the restaurant to get the right direction before you come in. You drive back the street ally and valet parking, then walk, and you will see the elevator. Ambiance, it's beautiful. You see the West Hollywood view at night time.I don't understand HOW all reviews got 5 stars. Overall, I'm so disappointed.I usually give good reviews about restaurants, but this place is NOT the right place to celebrate special occasions.

This weekend was my second time visiting Mother Tongue and, once again, it did not disappoint. The restaurant and valet can be challenging to find, but the restaurant will give you clear instructions if you call. The decor is Instagram heaven, without being over the top or cheesy. The outdoor patio and bar are as gorgeous as the interior. The food is so incredibly inventive and fresh. Our party shared the mushroom larb, lumpia, agnolotti, duck, salmon, sea bass and tandoori chicken — and all were incredible. We were full but also didn’t feel stuffed or uncomfortable, which I attribute to the quality fresh ingredients and well balanced dishes. The by the glass wine list is incredibly well curated. The 1er cru Chardonnay champagne by the glass was delightfully toasty and rich. Best of all, however, was the service. We were there for my birthday and felt so incredibly special. Every staff member we encountered went out of their way to make the night incredible. We were the second to last party there, which I felt guilty about, but our server volunteered to take photos of our group inside and on the deck, ensuring we didn’t feel rushed. I’m keeping MT on my list for special occasions.

Instagram made me try this spot & you should too : The Golden Hour here Wednesday thru Sunday is perfectly situated between 4 & 6 : with $10 wine pours and $5 Mother Tongue sliders by chef Michael Mina : props to kind Douglas and welcoming hostess Sophia who gave me the tour and was articulate and fun : I love that this spot has opened and there is room for us locals who frequently attend and celebrate all local happy hours : this area is also about to have a major boom when the cement factory goes and a massive 34 story tower moves in. As well as, the proposed Pink Line subway stop here at La Brea & Sunset : thank you Mother Tongue for taking root here first! I love what you do and absolutely will be back for Brunch!
