I’ve been a regular at Mr. Rice for a long time, coming in almost weekly specifically for the beef stew with rice. For the most part, my experience here has been solid, which is why I keep coming back.
However, I’ve noticed a decline in quality during my last few visits. The stew has started to taste quite bland compared to how it used to be. More concerningly, during my most recent visit, the stew was served barely warm, bordering on cold.
In the past, the food always came out hot. Because it wasn't heated properly this time, I was actually worried about the safety of the meal.
I really enjoy this spot and want to keep supporting it, but I hope the team pays more attention to seasoning consistency and ensuring the food is heated to a safe, hot temperature rather than letting it sit out. I’d love to see it get back to its usual high standard!

Authentic Chinese cuisine is a must-try, featuring an abundance of noodles and toppings, generously served with meat. The deep, rich flavors are a testament to their culinary expertise, and my Asian parents approve of their dishes. Occasionally, they offer great deals on drinks. The service is swift and efficient. I particularly love their double fatty beef and tomato noodle soups.

I like the fatty spicy bowl of soup. Soo good!
Mr. Rice is my favorite restaurant in Westwood! The service is so friendly and sweet (they’re a mom and pop shop). The shop itself is cozy and food comes out fast. The soup is hearty and flavorful with a generous serving size. My favorites are the double chilli beef and the kimchi beef soup mixian.

I come here a lot, but this time the 黄焖鸡米饭 braised chicken rice was too spicy because of the pepper. Hope they can make it non-spicy…

The best comfort soup-type of foos in westwood village. I would eat here after class all the time when I lived in Westwood, and I still try and stop by here whenever I'm visiting campus. I love their kimchi beef mixian, not as sour/salty/spicy as a jjigae since the broth is a lot lighter and milder, but it works REALLY well with the chunks of brisket and pieces of kimchi they put in there. I always try to take some home but I never have leftovers, it's THAT comforting (especially on a cold day). Their other menu options including the hot pots and mixians have been great as well, and they always have a daily special. Keep in mind this is not family style but the portions are enormous and you'll very likely have leftovers to take home, so the price is a great value. Finally, the staff are the sweetest people in the world and they're really friendly so try and get to know them! (And they gave me complementary fruit on a hot day lol).

Love love this place. Their jasmine green tea is so good and potent and very cheap. If you’re a tea person and don’t need many toppings and just want quality tea then get it. I always get their spicy beef dry hot pot and the noodles are sooo good. Always a simple yet satisfying dinner. Service is always friendly, and you can order at the kiosk for pickup or dine in.

My son suggested this place, and it was great. It's not the usual americanized Chinese restaurant. I don't know which region they're from.
I ordered the dry spicy beef noodles. It wasn't very spicy, but it was nicely numbing.

Delicious, full-flavored noodles and soup.
I ordered the chicken rice. Very poor taste and quality. The chicken pieces are HUGE. So is the mushroom size. The authentic one should have much smaller sizes. And the taste is very bland. Can’t believe the quality is from a Chinese restaurant in a Chinese population dense area.
Upon entering the restaurant I was immediately seated. The environment is incredibly fast-paced, so I got my meal ASAP. The beef hot pot was delicious and is perfect for the colder days. Absolutely cozy and did not disappoint.

This is very authentic regional Chinese food. This is not American "Chinese food" so if you are expecting kung pao chicken, this is not your place.

I and my friends went here frequently when I was still studying at UCLA. We sometimes ordered delivery as well. My favorite dishes were the braised chicken, and tomato noodles soup. And my favorite drink was the mung bean drink which helped me cool down my body. The restaurant was quite small, but the waiters were very nice, and the food portion was big also. I would recommend it
