One of my favorite places, everything they do is well executed, and the staff are equally kind and personable. My last experience in particular where I ate at the bar was oddly especially warm and welcoming, where I got to chat with a really cool staff member named Reed, who apparently not only makes the drinks, but bakes delicious cookies they currently serve with one of their cocktails (The Hot Toddy, if you're curious).

It's also some of the best tongue meet (on the Skewers section) that I've ever had; if you're a fan, I highly recommend getting one of those at minimum!

N/Soto was truly a night to remember. This was a RESY booking with the intent of taking advantage of AMEX perks, and while we originally planned on just a few bites, the food was so good that we ended up ordering far more than expected. Our bill came out to over $220 before tip, and honestly, it was easy to see how we got there.

We ordered a wide range of dishes, including the house-made tofu, Brussels sprouts and salmon skin salad, snow crab monaka, tori negi, saba kushiyaki, Mt. Fuji nigiri, flounder sashimi, king crab hand roll, and black cod tempura.

There were some real standouts. The house-made tofu was silky and delicate, and the salmon skin and Brussels sprout salad was one of our favorites of the night — perfectly balanced with great texture and flavor. The tori negi and saba kushiyaki were cooked beautifully, and the Mt. Fuji nigiri and flounder sashimi showcased excellent fish quality and restraint.

That said, not everything landed. The snow crab monaka came on a rice cracker that tasted noticeably stale to us. It may have been intentional, but the texture took away from the dish rather than enhancing it. The biggest disappointment, however, was the king crab hand roll. Our general rule is simple: do not pair mayo with luxurious ingredients. In this case, the mayo completely masked the delicate sweetness of the crab and dulled what should have been a highlight dish.

Even with a few missteps, the overall execution, creativity, and depth of the menu made this a memorable experience. N/Soto is a place where it’s very easy to over-order — and mostly worth it.

Food: 4.5/5 – High highs, a few misses
– Attentive, polished, and well-paced
Ambiance: 4.5/5 – Stylish, energetic, and perfect for a long dinner

They marked up a menu to show me what was gluten free and everything I ate was just phenomenal!!! So nice of them to accommodate my allergy and I really enjoyed my meal and the whole experience.

Looked for a quiet restaurant and checked out n/soto. Sometimes creative sushi and sashimi is not a good thing. n/soto delivered elevated sushi, sashimi, hand rolls along with stand out casual and prompt service.

Our service person, Nicole, delivered a well detailed explanation of favz from the menu. The patio was a great space. I look forward to dining indoors in the future.

Great decor and table layout.

A nice review is unnecessary given that n/soto was fully booked.

Fernetchan cocktail was delicious. MURASA KIGORI with Pisco also solid.

Lamb skewer was incredible (best lamb I ever had; not too gamey). Pork collar and scallop skewers also delicious. The wagyu skewer I expected to be more fatty.

Chef's selection of nigiri was very good. Sea urchin particularly delicious.

Edamame was great, Snow Crab Monaka delicious.

Best bone marrow I've ever had (the miso tasted incredible).

Black cod tempura excellent, and agedashi mochi even better.

The desserts were the most disappointing part of the meal. Olive oil cake I didn't care for the olive flavor. Okinawa Yam Pudding and Mochi Profiteroles were pretty good, not amazing.

Excellent waiter and staff.

The pacing of the hot dishes was a little too fast.

Not a super comfortable indoor dining atmosphere IMO: tables too close together, bad acoustics (loud conversations seem to echo off the walls), wish the lighting was dimmer.

Pretty pricey; I didn't expect to pay $170 a person tbh. And I wasn't SUPER full afterward.

Bathroom sink water was scalding hot; they should lower the max water temp.

Excellent food and drink, friendly and warm people. The tofu, spring pea salad, and agemono dishes were our favorites; the gyutan was also amazing.

Definitely make a reservation.

Unfortunately, the food here was far too salty and heavy on sauces, which overwhelmed every dish. I had to order white rice just to balance out the flavors.

The homemade tofu came with a side sauce, which looked like ginger syrup, turned out to be a cup of soy sauce. It completely ruined the dish because they served too much soy sauce with the dish and I poured half of it in. Who serves that much soy sauce without any warning 🥲

Grilled scallops arrived cold in the center. The bavette was chewy, overcooked, and drenched in a sweet-salty sauce that overpowered the meat.

I even asked our waitress for something light and unsauced, and she recommended the chicken sausage which ironically was the saltiest and sweetest item we tried.

Ended up leaving with an unpleasant salty aftertaste. Not a great experience. Disappointing and shocked at how inedible the food was.

I love this place!

I went for my birthday and enjoyed my meal so much that I hardly took any photos.

I had toro, lamb chops (DELICIOUS), wagyu, karagge, and a delicious drink. I look forward to going back and think that is a great spot!

N/Soto was 10/10! I celebrated my birthday here with a party of 10 and the staff was accommodating, attentive, kind, and helpful. The food was great! They had a wide selection for everyone's favorite sushis + meat options for non sushi lovers. The atmosphere was also very nice; casual yet upscale! Would come back!

One of my favorite Japanese restaurants in Los Angeles. Amazing sushi and all food is high-quality made from scratch and delicious. The service is excellent and it’s well priced given the quality of food atmosphere and service. I highly recommend.
