Came for lunch at this DTLA Chinese restaurant and it turned out to be good. It can be pricy but that's to be expected for many places around here. The New Moon has lots of the Chinese classics along with some more modern things. Good mix of Americanized and more traditional items. Prices may be the only complaint, but the portions kind of make up for these it seems. At lunch it wasn't that busy. It's not a big place, but there's enough room for plenty of enough tables inside. The menu has many of the so called Americanized favorites, and those looking for more traditional offerings can also find these. It's about $20 for an entree. Ouch. The good thing is the big portions. Kind of makes up for it. We got some of the things good for vegetarians. Has quite a lot to choose among. I got Spicy Firm Tofu With A Seasonal Green Vegetable. Good and the spiciness was hot enough. This was tossed in a light spicy brown sauce. As for the green vegetable, it was broccoli. There was plenty enough to take a bit home. For sure we could come back. It's pricy but the portions are big and it's like getting a couple meals. There's spicy entrees with many choices for vegans and vegetarians.

This place was suggested by my boss and it was right across the street from our office. It was also big enough to seat the 9 people we had without waiting. They suggested we do family style since the plates were big and people could share. We got a variety of plates - Chinese chicken salad, egg rolls, chow mein, and Mongolian beef to name a few. Food came out at different times and all were tasty, but not what I would call "authentic" Chinese food. Service was friendly and place was nice and clean.

It got ridiculously expensive. They knocked it out of the park expensive for simple Chinese food.

The food was not delicious, it was piping hot but tasted as though it came out of a microwave. We did not finish our meals, the restraraunt was empty mid-day during the week. The service was quick and attentive, but we were the only guest so there's that. I was disappointed.

Outs standing Chinese food, the best in LA! their Chinese chicken salad is awesome very different! All their food is super fresh and every dish is so tasty. I love their vegetable fried rice and I like to pick up from there. Nice people working there that have worked there for many years. An awesome restaurant. !

I'm like a homing pigeon so The New Moon at 9th Street and Main is my favorite late lunch spot after shopping on Santee and Olympic in the "Fashion District." I grew up in India and they cater to your pallet and are happy to create a special soup, appetizer and/or entree or "spice up" an entree like they did our shrimp kung pao Huge shout out to server Tino and chefs Angel and Julio!!!.

I've been coming to The New Moon for at least 40 years, when it was a little place on Main St. At the time, l was dating a police officer, and that's where many of them hung out. Well, sadly, that relationship didn't last. However, my relationship with The New Moon is still going strong. Since I retired, l don't get there as much, but every so often, I have to have the Chinese chicken salad. I've had chicken salad from all over, and NONE can compare to or satisfy me like theirs does. It's a 30-45 minute drive for me now and it's worth it to get what l want. See you soon, and thank you, Tio, for your kindness. Hey Colin

Not sure how this place has good reviews. First the hot and sour soup tasted like feet. I couldn't eat it at all. The chowmein had a weird after taste. I'm not sure if this was coming from the bamboo shoots but both had them and I'm not a big fan of the canned bamboo shoots bc it literally always taste like feet. The kung pao chicken tasted like the meat was previously frozen. Very dry and had bo flavor. The orange chicken was just soggy. The only decent item was the stein beans but even this was lacking flavor. Also the price is very high for Chinese food. I've never paid over $20 for each dish that didn't taste good. Probably the worst Chinese I've had. Even though food wasn't the best their service was very good. After my review the mgr called to see if there was anything he can do to satisfy my order. These things usually don't happen in LA these days so I was really shocked. Ty again! Hopefully, I can give them another try someday.

Good service and the food was great. I tried the Mandarin Tofu, the portion was huge and delicious. I usually order fried tofu, but this time I decided that I wanted something new and did not regret it.The Chicken with Chinese snow peas was incredible. The chicken was tasty and juicy and vegetables were covered in an interesting sauce. The service was above and beyond. I will come back to try other dishes as a really like this place.
