I have been curious about this place for a while. As I have only recently been able to get to LA restaurants after the lockdown madness, I tend to go to All You Can Eat Buffets (my favorite restaurant style). However, when I read about Nic's closing at the end of this month, I decided to be sure to get there on my last trip to LA. It was well worth it - the food was very good. My friend and I shared the Lion’s Mane Asada pizza, the Southern Style Fried Oyster Mushrooms, and a bowl of soup. In Santa Barbara (where I live) the cost would have been similar, but the serving sizes would have been smaller and we would have left hungry. At Nic's we left full and took home some leftovers. Additionally, the food at Nic's was more creative and would have been harder to make at home than the simpler dishes available at the high cost SB restaurants. The Pizza was very good and worth the high price. The soup was also a very good creamed cauliflower soup. The mushroom dish was not what I expected. I thought that the potatoes, mushrooms, and greens would be mixed together. Instead, the mushrooms were batter fried and the collard greens and mashed potatoes were served on the side. Everything tasted great (the dashi collard greens were simple, but very good). The mushrooms tasted great, but I would have preferred them if they were not fried - as I prefer to avoid fried foods. I really wish that I could return to try some of their other menu items. I told our server that they should reopen in Santa Barbara to provide some life to the (disappointing) SB vegan restaurant scene. Updated from previous review on 2024-03-31

I had high hopes for Nic’s on Beverly, especially with its closing doors making our visit our first and last. Unfortunately the dining experience was met with disappointment. The main letdown was the lion’s mane mushroom steak - a dish we were excited about. Instead of the advertised lion’s mane, a different, clearly less premium mushroom was served, yet the price remained as high as an actual steak. We also tried the crispy rice avocado dish, the tofu, and the cheesecake, hoping to find something to love. Unfortunately, these dishes were mostly average. The only saving grace of our meal was the broccoli, which, while good, isn’t enough to redeem the overall experience. It’s disheartening to see a place miss the mark so significantly, especially when charging premium prices for what turned out to be an underwhelming meal. While Nic’s on Beverly might be closing down, and this was our first time visiting, it’s safe to say we wouldn’t have returned even if given the chance. A real shame, as we always root for places to succeed, but in this case, it seems it might be for the best.

Heard a lot about this place, so figured we'd go for date night before it closed. I would describe it as “good” all round. Maybe they already lost their head chef, but none of the dishes were really great. Particularly disappointing was the lions mane mushroom steak. We had high expectations and it was really just... a big wad of expensive mushrooms with a nice smoky flavor. What were we expecting I guess? For the price of an actual steak, something more. Anyway, happy we managed to go before it closed, we wouldn't be going back either way.

Came here before they closed. Service was horrible. Took 40 minutes to get our order taken and 2 hours before all of our food came out. Drinks were a whole other nightmare. This was all due to our waitress.

Another, maybe final meal at a wonderful restaurant run with passion and creative inventive delicious cooking: so very sad to see one of the best vegan spots leaving us. Go before they do!

i've been to nic's many times with friends, family and on dates. i've never come across a friendly host. the wait staff is great but the hosts are terrible and rude. food is always tasty, overpriced but good.

Very great experience. I had The pepperoni pizza but added blue cheese and mushrooms to it, which I paired with a lemon drop martini , and it was phenomenal .The Caesar salad was also really really good. I am definitely giving this place a 10 out of 10 I hate to hear that they were leaving March 31, 2024 and they will no longer be existing. I wish I would've visited sooner, but I'm in hopes of coming back before they're official gone. ? So if you've been thinking about visiting this place, you better go now before the month is over, because it's a must try!!! They have the best vegan food around LA.?

Per usual the food at nic's was so good! Got the bang bang broccoli which I'll absolutely order regularly, and the bianco pizza. Also the side of fries are amazing (random, I know). Banana split was yummy too! I love this restaurant so much, and so do my friends.

Food was delicious. Tempeh bacon was perfectly seasoned and breakfast bowl was recommended by the server and did not disappoint. All the staff was very accommodating and wonderful especially the host.

Best vegetarian place I’ve been to in a long time. Everything we ordered was delicious. We ordered a few items so if you’re feeling adventurous just order items based on what you are craving

Vegetarian options: Tasty and satisfying

Everything about this place is great. The food and food choices are amazing. We sat at the bar and Willie is a very personable and friendly bartender. We had dinner at the bar and every thing we ordered was very tasty. The drinks were also outstanding. Love this place!

Tried Nic’s on a recent visit to the Hollywood area and had an enjoyable meal! Everything we had was great - bang bang broccoli (great flavors and textures), bianco pizza (hello, truffle vinaigrette!!), and orecchiette (perfect handmade pasta that was creamy and the mushrooms were to die for). Ambience was delightful as well!

This was really good food. I brought my friend to celebrate and we came specifically for the chocolate brownies! My friend is a meat eater but still loved everything he tried from the menu. It was a tad too loud for my taste. We wanted to catch up but felt like we had to shout the whole time we were there. Not that it ruined the night, just a heads up if you're looking for a place to chat, this isn't the easiest for conversation. There were a handful of families there, and the service was so quick none of the kids were doing bored, annoying things. So that is a plus!! Brownie, tho. So good.

We were just looking for a place to grab lunch near the Beverly Center and Nic's came up first in our search. We had no idea it was a Vegan restaurant. None of us are even vegetarian but, we decided to stay and give it a try. The food, service and place was great!! In the end, it was a very pleasant “mistake “.
