Cucumber salad was just soy sauce and garlic and the beef noodle soup the soup was bland, beef was hard, not spicy at all, noodles soft, and veggies over cooked. Service was great but I won’t return not authentic in my opinion.

Northern Cafe was real juice filled dumplings and then it suddenly changed names as did the food quality and rapidly. So if you are reading reviews raving, it was true. The dumplings I had today were rubbery and dry inside and tasted like they came directly out of the freezer. The noodles were so tasteless it shocked me because it was like experiencing whiplash from what I’ve known. It’s unfortunate that what used to be my go-to REAL Chinese dumpling place has turned into a typical Chinese American restaurant that I have no interest in. At least there is a Northern Cafe in Hollywood now.

An authentic Taiwanese style noodle place in ‘good asian food desert’ of Beverly Hills lol.
I noticed they are back to serving beef noodle with chunks of beef like it should be. For a period I recall they started serving the beef in thin slices like you see with Japanese ramen. Glad they are back to the classic style.

Dan Dan noodles were bland. Weak flavor. If that wasnt bad enough, they try to tip themselves without your knowledge. Go anywhere else.

Can’t wait to return! We ordered beef noodle soup, steamed mushroom dumplings, pork soup dumplings, pan fried pork chicken dumplings, shrimp fried rice, greens beans, and chongqing crispy chicken.

Everything was A+ except for pork and cabbage dumplings. Wasn’t had, but overall very basic. Wouldn’t order again.
Chongqing chicken was perfectly seasoned. Not too mouth-numbing.
Noodle soup very good. Not too much Chinese 5-spice 👍

My only suggestion for the restaurant is to provide real silverware instead of plastic forks and spoons. Your handmade noodles deserve better!

Looks good, too bad i went at 820pm on a Thursday and he was already closing up. No apologies, just said we're closed and waved his hand.

I was craving dim sum so bad but didn’t want to travel too far out… I came across this restaurant after shopping in CVS. It was the perfect stop for solo eating and helped my craving for Chinese food. I ordered the chicken soup dumplings and made my own sauce at the table. I would definitely come back here the staff was super friendly and it’s chill. Love it.

Dishonest Tipping Practice

I’ve been to this northern café in Beverly Hills before with my white husband and had a pleasant experience, so I decided to take my parents visiting from Beijing. Unfortunately, this time was very different. The waiter didn’t greet us or offer any conversation. We didn’t need his help for the self-service water, but he poured it for us anyway and then walked away. At other northern-style cafes, tipping isn’t expected since it’s mostly self-serve. Here, you scan a QR code to order, pack your own food, and check out at the counter.

When it was time to pay, I noticed the waiter had already selected a tip for me without my consent. The only words he spoke were asking me to swipe, and when I questioned why the tip was already included, he seemed irritated and just told me to sign. I didn’t want to make a scene in front of my parents, but this felt like tip fraud.

Also the food tasted not great, you can see the dumplings were broken.

I’d appreciate a response from the owner about whether this is standard practice and a partial refund of my tip. If it is, it’s even more concerning.

Update: the owner simply would like to deny other than checking the camera. I have uploaded My receipt picture already and they chose to deny. Read previous reviews pls this happened more than once

I ended up stopping here on my way to my hotel. It was pretty much empty apart from 2 other patrons. Menu was kinda limited but food came out quickly. They have wifi but do not allow guests on it. Food was average, I ordered the mixed dumplings which were good but the scallion pancake was not. Overall was about 30 dollars before tip for that plus a Diet Coke which seems a little high.
