So disappointed with the recent changes. Their prices have skyrocketed. Ordered three items for $52, their which only a few months ago would’ve cost $30ish.
It’s not the same hole in the wall anymore. All their old staff are gone. The owners accused them of stealing food and hooking up their friends with free food which is why they got rid of the hot food bar and which is why you no longer see the crowd of Thai people supporting the business.
It was dead inside when I walked in. The Thai sausage costs $14, the pad Ka prow $16, same with the soups $16 and up. Might as well go to the better restaurants because this isn’t a budget friendly place anymore. They barely fill up the meats as well. Pass.
Recommended to me by most locals, I knew as a traveler I had to pop by and see what all the hype was about. And let me tell you? The praise is not only rightfully deserved, but also doesn’t Amphai a service. The food exceeded the praise in the best of ways, filling and fulfilling in every way.
We went there at night It was only window pick up, but they let us use the restroom. Food was good friendly people I would recommend it.
The most authentic Thai food I have had in the US with excellent customer service.
I ordered Tom Yum and Red curry, both of these items were not on their menu but they prepared them anyway. Red curry was excellent and this is the first Thai restaurant in the US where I have had authentic and excellent Tom yum soup.
AMAZING ! We ordered Khao Soi and Gaeng Hang Lae and Pad See Ew … with sticky rice of course !!! 10000/10 super authentic, flavorful, filling, comforting . Very cozy restaurant with high quality affordable Thai food. The only Thai place I’ll be going from now own when I visit LA. If you’re ever in the area it’s worth a try! And if you’re not… it’s worth the drive ! Thank you Amphai for having us tonight !! Only got one pic of our food because we dived right in!!
super yummy khao soi gai
Incredible food. Not a ton of seating but Definitely authentic.

Best place to have northern Thai food in CA. We tried most of every menu they have and found that the test is very authentic. Our favorite dishes are the northern sausage and the chili pastes menu. Services also really great for the small restaurant. The server she always asks how much spices you want and recommends dishes for you.

Excellent northern thai food. Best khao soi I’ve had in a while. Northern sausage is also incredible and decently spicy. Larb is northern style, a little dry but overall good.

This place seemed a lot better when the entrees were 8.99 each and no forced gratuity. I visited tonight and was surprised to find two entrees (both sitting out all day) and sticky rice were 32 dollars. The room temp larb and spicy basil chicken were taken in the back, half-arsed thrown in a microwave and brought to my table. The temperature of the food was very uneven (hot on one side, cold on the other, etc). For the basil chicken, instead of giving you wings or boneless wings, the chicken is cut into really weird sections (likely cheap scraps from the supplier) that were mostly just sharp cut bones...but they still bread and fry it like its actual meat lol. You have no idea if meat is there until you try to bite into it. Charging $13 for that is criminal. The meat of both dishes seriously lacked both in quality and taste. To top it off, they add gratuity no matter how small your party and STILL expect you to tip. Unfortunately it seems due to the hype, Mark Wiems video and steady stream of customers this place has turned into just another LA restaurant playing "How much can we charge stupid Americans for 'ethnic' food?". The actual quality is terrible, they are now running solely on reputation. This place is clearly no longer about the food...its about how much profit the owner(s) can extract. Prime example of what happens when a restaurant feels like they no longer need to EARN your business. Well they've lost mine.
Fall 2024 review: They sold out. Quality collapsed, prices increased more than 50 percent. Minimal spices and flavor in all of the dishes we ordered, with the larb using low quality meat and the sticky rice steamed in a plastic bag, not kidding. No leaf inside either. Won't return.
We were the only east/southeast Asian family dining.
They still use takeout containers and cutlery, there's no bathroom, and mediocre service that they insist on a service charge for.
They're basically a fake Thai attraction for tourists and transplants now. This clientele is also rude and annoying and our mediocre, overpriced meal was highly unpleasant due to screaming kids and pushy tourists.
For the final straw, I was sick the next day because they likely make the food in the morning and leave it out. This can work if properly seasoned and spiced. White level spice will breed bacteria. I had never gotten sick the many times I ate here when it was still an authentic restaurant targeting Thai people.
Summer 2022 review: Very good, and very interesting food. Definitely worth a visit to try another style of Thai food.
