I took my husband here for his birthday and this place is definitely my number 1 right now! We went on a Tuesday at 4pm and there were only 3 other parties seated when we got there. It was very clean and we were welcomed when we opened the door. We both ordered the premium 12 piece omakase (~$100 each) and we could tell much thought and preparation went into each fish that was served. Each piece was a master piece; professionally cut and sauced that we didn't have to do anything but put wasabi on top. The cold draft asahi was a great pairing with their ice cold beer cups. Even the wasabi and ginger tasted of great quality! If you're an uni lover, definitely come try from here because they have the best uni I've ever had!
I did take off one star because when the tray of omakase was delivered, they did not provide an explanation of what was being served. I feel like having that explanation is all part of the omakase experience. We've ordered omakase at plenty of different sushi restaurants in LA, Japan, and Hawaii and they've always explained to us each dish that was served. It could have been because we sat at a table away from the chef, but even then the server would tell us what's on the plate. Either way, the fish was so delicious this small inconvenience is easy to overlook. I would go back, but maybe sit at the bar closer to the chef.

With this price range, I expected a luxurious experience. However, I had a reservation at 8:30 but wasn’t seated until 9. They placed us outside, and the heaters weren’t working. Not to mention, our table was a foldable one from Target. We ordered a variety of dishes, but they all turned out to be mediocre in quality.

The waitress was too bad
The manager kindly upgraded our seats, but the server was clearly unhappy, shaking her head and mumbling the whole time.

"I heard that the owner previously worked at Nobu, which raised my expectations. The food was indeed good; however, I consistently felt that the service was lacking warmth. Even when I arrived early, before the restaurant got busy, the servers seemed robotic and unengaged. Despite spending around $800 on dinner each time, the overall experience left much to be desired in terms of hospitality."

Food was decent. Loved the toro uni over rice. But tables are very close to each other. We were seated next to the exit door and apparently when the servers open and close the door, they don’t care how far away the door swing. It almost hit my chair every time they go in and out to serve the tables outdoor. Music was too loud for a quiet conversation. Our waiter never checked on us the whole night, no water refill, never asked us if we wanted to order anything additionally. Oh and we had to come to the frond desk to get our check, and the guy there was apparently not familiar with the process so he only gave us the customer copy so what am I supposed to sign 🤷♀️

Overall, food isn’t good. We had the makimono and Sashimi. Sashimi (salmon) was phenomenal but makimono was not - we had the salmon and yellowtail, they tasted old and rice was not fresh. The Amato Special was dry and just not good at all. Waitresses were rude and not helpful with the menu. The place is cute and main guy at the front seems chill, but overall I’d recommend going to Kombu a few blocks down Sunset - better atmosphere, food, service, and parking.

My friends brought me here for a birthday dinner and my goodness, it did not disappoint. This was the first visit for all of us and everyone in the party loved every single bite. I didn’t take any photos because we were too busy devouring everything, but the plating was simple and beautiful, all the fish was extremely fresh, and the portions were very generous. (Especially the uni sashimi which is my absolute favorite and was the best part of my birthday meal.) Larger parties are seated outside, but the space was well heated and covered by a tent. I will knock it one point because there was a tent pole sort of wedged between my friend me which was a little annoying. The seating is close together as well so it’s pretty intimate but lively and everyone around us was super friendly. Anyways, thank you for a beautiful meal, we had a great time and will absolutely be back!

It was an authentic Japanese ilazakaya.
Fresh fish, good quality nori, and nice service.
However, I had took one star out because the scallop sushi wasn't fresh today in the omakase sushi menu.
However, don't miss out nagasaki nabe with additional chilli oil !

This was an inviting and all around great experience from beginning to end. Our server was Joshua and he offered THE BEST hospitality. Now to the food: we had the Unagi Hot Pot and the A5 Wagyu hamburger steak, both were next level deliciousness! We dined just closing and the staff was accommodating and did not rush us at all. I thank you for a great evening Izakaya☺️

The place to get the freshest fish! Their fish is shipped overnight via FedEx from Japan daily!
Everything we had was amazing. Started off with the Yuzu Kanpaccio that was citrusy and light. The kushiyakis we had were all very good. We were recommended the sea bass and it did not disappoint! The premium sushi assortments were each unique filled with so much flavors. The Uni Amaebi bowl is a great way to have a variety of fish. It’s served with a special seaweed that is very different! We ended this meal with the Amato Special which is something we never had before. The combination of the dried persimmon with cream cheese and a matcha mochi cake was the cherry on top!
