Classic LA spot with amazing French dip sandwiches. Always delicious and fast service.
One of the oldest restaurants in LA, it's an institution for a reason. They invented the French dip sandwich, and with the hot mustard it's a fantastic bite to eat.

Phillipes is a staple in DTLA (adjacent). Down the street from Union Station. A place that is so consistent in service and food!! Lemonade is always under a $1! Lamb dip is perfection. Chili is delicious (either with or without beans). Potato Salad is so good. Pickles are a must!!

Philippe The Original was the perfect stop for feeding the team. Classic food done right, fast service, and a great atmosphere that makes it easy to grab a satisfying meal without slowing things down. Everything was delicious and hit the spot after a long day. A Los Angeles staple for a reason.

I used to live nearby in the late ’90s (yes, I know! Dating myself), and Philippe’s was a regular stop in my younger years. Somehow, despite over a decade of marriage, I only just managed to finally bring my better half here, and I couldn’t be happier that the place is still exactly the same.
We came in late on a Tuesday evening after Christmas, and for the first time ever, there was no rush at all. It was almost surreal seeing this legendary spot so calm and empty. I had the double-dipped lamb, my husband went with the single-dipped pork; both absolutely delicious, just as I remembered.
We lucked into one of those highly coveted booths (a rare prize during busy hours) and took our time enjoying the meal. Afterward, we wandered around, taking in the historical photos, artifacts, and memorabilia scattered throughout the building.
What a treat to finally share such a beloved piece of Los Angeles history with the person I love. Philippe’s isn’t just a meal - it’s a time capsule, and I’m grateful it’s still standing exactly as it should.

You wait in line, make your order and wait for it to be handed to you. The pastrami was great, the lamb was a bit odd, and the French dip was just ok. The potato soup was outstanding but for over $100, this really wasn't worth it.
