First I'll mention that this "covid" thing is cramping my style! lolNext, I should tell you that I'm Dutch Indonesian. For those that are "Dutch-Indo's" or are friends, have probably enjoyed "Indonesian" food at one time or another. We all know of the Jewish, Italian or Mexican grandmothers that always say "eat, eat, eat" right? Well, Indonesian's are no different! Growing up, mom and dad always cooked Indonesian food and of course my friends got to sample the fare! We've been going to Ramayani Westwood (Los Angeles) for decades. They moved to Westwood from North SF Valey in the 80s. The food is amazingly authentic! The fragrant delicate spices permeates the air and gives pleasure to all your senses. Too many great dishes to list here, so please check their website. What's Indonesian food like? Imagine fusing Thai, Vietnamese, Malaysian and Indian, vibrant colors and sweet spicy aromas! Basically, there is a main dish"meat, fish or lamb" cooked/simmered or grilled to perfection surrounded by exquisite pungent sauces and aromatic sweet spices, plenty of rice (steamed, fried or both...Just ask) shrimp chips, nutty "emping" chips, lots of simmered and steamed vegetables too. Did I mention lot of rice? lol Amazing appetizers, deserts and some of THE most exotic non-alcoholic drinks on the planet! I'm not kidding...See website! I love their Iced coffee and specialty iced teas! Now the bad (lol). The restaurant is postage stamp small, The tables could be bigger (much bigger for all the food they bring) and remember, you're in Westwood, so parking is a joy (sarcasm...lol). Prices are around $15.00 per meal or so not including drinks. But if you can squeeze your Mini Cooper into a spot on the street, have change for the meter, slip into a teeny booth or table, you'll soon be treated like family and experience what we Indo's refer to as "Indonesian soul food!To me, it brings back memories of mom and dad laboring in the kitchen, wafting aroma's of sweet savory spice, sambal hot paste and friends asking "when are we eating?" They've been there forever, a little mom and pop gem in the vast ocean of "chain-eateries".You'll be pleasantly surprised! I know they have beer and wine but not sure if they have the hard stuff! *Closed during Covid...
