Was craving soba on a Saturday morning and luckily found SOBAR. Soba made in house - 100% buckwheat, cooked to perfection. Some of the best soba I’ve ever had with strong but clean dipping sauces. Had an extra full serving of soba to polish off the dipping sauces. Service was as good if not greater than soba itself.

Restaurant design is beautiful, modern, clean. I love the center bar countertop seating. Staff was very friendly.
The food was a bit disappointing. I didn't expect it to match what I had in Japan, but it really fell short. Ordered a few apps: Dashi simmered pumpkin, Dashimaki, and Agedashi Nasu. All fell flat. The Kakiage Soba had a good flavor to it, but the Kamo Negi Soba was a big miss all around, especially the duck part was not tender and there was only 3 thin, tiny slices. I really wanted to like this place, but I think I ordered enough dishes to justify my rating.

SOBAR is lovely and authentic. It’s surprisingly difficult to find *really* good Japanese food in LA, but SOBAR is an exception; it has a diverse but short enough menu that the quality is consistent. The dining room is well appointed, comfortable and efficient without being fussy. Love it!

Want to experience of nugget of Japan in LA? Head to this amazing soba spot which starts with amazing appetizers such as fried chicken and sashimi and the venture to soba noodles, trying both the cold ones and the hot ones. They also have excellent sake and other Japanese drinks. Service is excellent too.

Am in LA for one week and I had dinner there last night and am making reservations for lunch today and probably go back a few more times. It’s fantastic service, food and ambiance. And it is quiet!!!

The best soba and karaage I've ever had!
I used to live in Japan, Tokyo and I was sure I knew about soba BUT I was wrong! This restaurant exceeded my expectations. It's perfect place if you are picky for Japanese food.
I had chill dipping soba with shiso and my husband had spicy hot soba. We also tried karaage and seasoned edamame. All were excellent 👌👌👍👍👍 I will definitely come back to try different type of soba or udong.

We found this place “by accident” and definitely didn’t regret our choice. Sobar on Washington is the kind of place you forgive for the parking situation — and trust me, you will be circling like a confused pelican at least once. But once you make it inside? Totally worth it.
The menu is loaded with vegetarian soba bowls that could convert even the most committed carnivore. And if you’re not in a noodle mood, no problem — the sashimi is ultra-fresh, and the tempura is so perfectly crisp it practically crackles in greeting. Add a solid lineup of sakes and suddenly your “quick dinner” becomes a whole vibe. I saw many guests re-ordering new items a few times.
The atmosphere is pure Venice: casual, bright, and breezy, like everyone agreed to be relaxed but still look effortlessly cool. Most seats are high stools, only a couple of regular tables available.
Pro tip: Come hungry, bring patience for parking, and absolutely order the sake — it’s the upgrade your soba didn’t know it needed

Soba here is great (loved the duck especially) and the service is really fast. Got a fantastic lemon sour which I haven't had since I went to Japan. Also just such a cute atmosphere; perfect for chats with friends and date nights

I had pretty bad cravings of soba cold noodles. I’m gluten free and the food wasn’t only delicious but the staff were very accommodating and kind. We will be back!

I had high hopes, but was not convinced about the concept of high end soba restaurant. We had Ribeye Niku Soba and Kakiage Soba. The flavor and presentation were acceptable, and I appreciated the attempts to elevate the dishes with high quality protein. But the soba noodles themselves were not that much different from the grocery bought home cooking. It was strange that the soba in Kakiage Soba were in small pieces, about 2 inches long, which made it hard to slurp like traditional way.
We were there on a Friday dinner but the place was only half filled. The servers seemed to not really care about the food. West LA could use a good soba restaurant, but I'm not sure that this will last.

Apparently this place is reservations only. I made a reservation the same day and they told me they can't take any more reservations due to soba noodles limitations. I don't know why they don't state reservations only when it is reservations only and also take reservations when they can't accommodate. Probably will never try this place.

The atmosphere is clean and minimal, centered around a U-shaped bar that adds a welcoming touch. Near the entrance, a display of sake bottles sets the tone, offering a glimpse into the restaurant’s curated taste. It feels like a great spot for a solo meal, especially if you’re looking for something calm and thoughtfully prepared.
We visited for a weekday lunch. With only one chef on duty, the service was understandably a bit slow, but still attentive.
We ordered the special appetizer plate, along with two types of zaru soba — one with shiso sauce and the other with tororo. While the appetizer plate felt slightly overpriced given the portion size, I appreciated the care put into each item. That said, the grilled rice ball and salmon could’ve been warmer — possibly a result of limited staffing.
The soba itself was excellent, with a pleasantly firm and tangy texture. The shiso sauce, however, leaned a bit too salty and thick for my taste, whereas the tororo sauce was well-balanced in both flavor and texture. After finishing the noodles, we asked for sobayu (hot water mixed with buckwheat flour), and once again, the shiso dipping sauce remained too salty to enjoy even when diluted — but the tororo sauce paired beautifully with it, enhanced by the delicate sweetness of fresh wasabi.
