I found this taco joint tucked off Sawtelle in an unassuming block. Ordered their carne asada burrito—a steak cut so tender and juicy, burrito huge. The staff were friendly and quick even though I was solo. Inside décor is minimal strip‑mall style. But the food? Definitely outshines most trendy taco spots.

These are my favorite Sonoran style tacos in LA. The tortillas and salsas are great and the meat is simple and delicious. I always come here when I’m craving food from my home state.

One of the best burritos I've had in a long time. I like that it isn't a copy and paste of all the other Mexican restaurants in the area. Everything in the burrito was cooked to perfection, and the flavors were delicious. I couldn't wait to take another bite.

Food is good, but the bowl doesn’t include rice or beans. I ordered online and it wasn’t an option to add them. How can a bowl not have rice? Please fix.

Tucked into the vibrant Sawtelle district, SONORITAS Prime Tacos brings the bold, mesquite-fired flavors of Northern Mexico to the heart of Los Angeles. From the moment you walk in, the scent of grilled meat and freshly pressed tortillas welcomes you--and your appetite.
The menu centers around Sonoran-style tacos, with high-quality ingredients front and center. The Prime Rib-Eye Taco, grilled over mesquite and served on house-made tortillas, is the star--tender, smoky, and perfectly seasoned. Other standouts include the Mar y Tierra Burrito, a decadent mix of Angus beef and shrimp.
The interior is casual but stylish, with a welcoming vibe that matches the warm and attentive service. Whether you're dropping in for a quick lunch or planning a relaxed dinner with friends, Sonoritas hits the sweet spot between comfort food and quality dining.

The Baseline: For a Mexican fast casual restaurant the flavors of the food must make use of the prime Mexican ingredients (corn, beans, chiles, rice, cheese, and meats), preparation of sauces/salsas must be fresh, the meal portion size must make me feel full, and service must be efficient.
Food: The food at Sonoritas is a solid Mexican food experience. I had the Mar y Tierra burrito (half pound) and elote. Everything was fresh and delicious with the burrito having a good steak/shrimp ratio. The elote while good with a nice char to the corn was not a very large portion (I wish I got more). I have been here before and had the rib eye tacos and quesadilla which were very good too.
Service: Good service especially if you eat at the restaurant. It is a pay first and wait until it is delivered to table type of service. It was fast and efficient the day I went.
Ambiance: This is a nice modern Mexican fast casual restaurant. The inside and patio were clean.

A bit fancier than I typically go for in terms of Mexican food, but still, a great place for a high quality burrito.
The Chips and Salsa were a hit and a miss. I thought the chips had a great crunch and really enjoyed the dusting of chili powder, but they weren’t coated evenly. Some chips would be entirely seasoned while others were completely barren. A small nitpick, but something to note. The salsa was good, a bit too much on the watery side, but had a good smokey flavor.
Even though tacos are in the name, I came from the burritos. While the MAR Y TIERRA BURRITO is over $20 with tax and tip, you can see and taste where the money is going. This thing is beautiful and I was worried that because of its artistic presentation the filling would be poorly distributed, but was surprised to get a little bit of everything in every bite! The shrimp has a good char but the beef got lost in the mix a little bit because the pieces were so small. Texturally, the burrito packs a punch with a variety of smooth creamy and chewy elements. I love the inclusion of the chipotle mayo because of how it brightened up the meal.
Overall, I had a good experience, enjoyed the food and wouldn’t mind going back.

Please guys train your staff properly. I love your place and come here very regularly and always order half shrimp burrito. Everyone is usually very sweet. Today I was told by the cashier Salma (? Red hair girl) I can’t order my usual half shrimp burrito and that I must order full. This is ridiculous - I’ve been ordering the exact same order for the last few months. Probably ordered it like 10 times total. She was offering me other options but I can’t have your other options- it is not halal/kosher so I can only do shrimp. The lady didn’t let me place my usual order. And there was no manager to clarify the situation.
