Stereoscope Coffee

If I were to go to only 1 coffee place in LA it would be this stereoscope for the following reasons:

1) There’s tension in specialty coffee between performance and practice. Many cafes adopt the language of ethical sourcing and craft, but only some operationalize it in meaningful ways, including an obvious respect for the raw ingredient through sourcing transparency and roasting restraint. It isn’t always apparent which shops are talking and which ones are walking, but Sterescope is clearly of the latter.

2) They treat matcha like an actual delicacy beverage and not a green food coloring for your sweetened milk.

Ordered two coffees for pickup on Uber Eats since I was in a rush. Show up 15 minutes later and they still haven't started them, despite only being 2 people in the coffee shop. Had to wait an additional 10 minutes.

Only coffee shop I’ve ever been to where you wait in line for 10 minutes to be told there’s no drip coffee at 9:30am. You had one job. 😂😂 what a joke

This place has the worst customer service. Every time I’m here (I used to live upstairs), I wait minutes before even being acknowledged. There is no sense of urgency or care whatsoever. On top of that, the people that come here take up a lot of the space, preventing others from having seating that would otherwise be available. THE WORST. There a far other better places like Liberation Coffee a block down.

This place is perfect if you’re looking for somewhere to focus, read, or work without feeling rushed. The ambiance is minimal and thoughtfully designed.

I came specifically to try the ceremonial matcha, and the selection is impressive. Each matcha is clearly described with notes on aroma, umami, color, and aftertaste. I chose the Kuro with maximum umami : rich, deep, beautifully balanced. A real treat.

The service was warm and attentive, and the staff made the experience feel easy and welcoming.

Definitely a place I’ll come back to.

2nd visit to this location and unfortunately, last. First time tall husky gentleman was very kind, and welcoming. During my last visit, the female employees I encountered were the complete opposite. The beverage was great, however while I was waiting a woman, whom they seemed familiar with, entered with her unleashed (and apparently untrained) pet dog running and disturbing fellow patrons. Voices my concern and they essentially laughed and snickered to one another. The customer with dog, ultimately followed me out of store and for quite a few blocks (dodging in and out of traffic to keep up with and harass me). Right when I started to call police, she stopped. It can be said that restaurants cannot control the behavior of its customer base, however, as state earlier, the baristas were very friendly with her (and actually even resembled her). I wrote directly to Stereoscope shortly after the occurrence and to date they’ve not replied.

Drove 25 minutes to get their coffee. Walked in and was closed on 4:02. Had a note that they would not be open today - let’s change your time on Google as well so customers don’t show up. Thanks

The royal milk tea is impressive. Easily the best milk tea I’ve ever had, because the blend of oolong and black teas are exquisite. I am impressed.

It took me 18 mins to order. 4 people ahead of me. No urgency... Iv been to most relaxed places but they dont let people standing and wait 18mins for small individual coffee orders. Rest of the staff dont help to speed things up.

Something is off....

Ill try next time and see if it got improved. Coffee pour over costa rica is good.
