Open very late, solid food - what more do you need? Not a lot of late night options in LA these days. Glad to have Suehiro Mini within walking distance.

4/5 stars (Vegetarian here for a plant-based/vegan review):We visited Suehiro Mini in Chinatown after the Chinatown Neighborhood Night Market hosted by CCEDLA in October, but I'm posting this review after learning that Suehiro's Little Tokyo location is facing eviction. Suehiro is a small family run restaurant chain with two generations of history, and the location in Chinatown has a smaller menu and storefront than its other locations. We were seated around 10:30 pm and the store wasn't too busy but it took us around 20 minutes to get our orders in and another 20 for the food to come out. Service is on the slower side so if you're on a time crunch definitely factor that in! There are four vegan options: vegan tomato ramen, vegan mapo don, vegan vegetable udon, and vegan yakisoba. I ordered the vegan tomato ramen. The broth was super thick and flavorful, and topped with fried and battered zucchini, tomato, and eggplants. While the portion sizes are quite large, the broth had a bit of a one note flavor and wasn't able to continue eating after I got through half. They have to-go containers so I was able to bring home the rest and it served as another meal. My friends ordered a Haiyashi Rice and Curry Rice and both really enjoyed their meal too. Their portions seemed even bigger, so if you have a small appetite I recommend sharing! Though service wasn't the quickest, we still enjoyed our meal, and I would love to return to try the other vegan options. If you're in the Chinatown area, try this ramen spot (as well as other small legacy businesses who are being pushed out by wealthier corporations that are actively working on gentrifying Chinatown).

There are at least 4 dishes to pick from. The Mabo tofu was tasty!

We came here on a random Wednesday night. Our regular spot at Olvera Street closed early. An easy walk from Olvera street it took us 6 minutes to get here.Arrived to an empty restaurant. Dining area is clean with a tv screen showing scenes from Tokyo. Staff was busy unpacking boxes so we asked if we were able to dine in. Staff could have been friendlier.Katsu curry was good. Nothing spectacular or different from any other Japanese restaurant. Tonkatsu was very good with all the toppings but only had 2 slices of pork.We would probably come back if we're in the area.

If I could give zero stars I would. I don't write reviews often, as a matter of fact, I don't think I've ever written one, and if I have, it can't be mote than two. But what I witnessed here today cannot go unstated.Long story short, if you are black, do not come here because black people are not "worthy" enough to work for this establishment. Not 20 minutes ago, while dinning in at this restaurant and seated a few feet from both the door and the register, I witnessed a black lady come in and ask the staff at the register for an employment application. The person at the register was immediately taken aback at the question. After 5 seconds of an comfortable pause, she told the black lady the restaurant was not hiring. The black lady pointed out the hiring sign posted in the front of the restaurant for all to see. At which, the staff became agitated, and mumbling her words, told her, regardless of that sign, they weren't hiring. Of course the black lady pointed out, yet again, at the hiring sign, but all the staff could do was shake her head. Then the black asked, "is it because I am black?". The staff just kept mumbled then kept quiet. But when she saw I was paying attention, she produced a paper application. But at that point there was a uncomfortable silence in the room. A stark realization of sort because two people in that came to suspect what the true reason was for the rejection. The black lady left dejected.I could even finish my food after that.Today marked my forst brush with this kind of thing. And in Los Angeles for that matter. Smh

The food is delicious, the ramen is spectacular. Héctor's attention is one of the best things about the place.
