Got the nozawa set menu - I enjoyed it! The hand rolls were definitely my favorite. It was nice to not have to think about what to order. One thing that surprised me was that they only have sushi on the menu (no appetizers), and the selection is not huge (no tamago!!!). I'm not sure what other places in downtown LA cost, but $39 for the set felt like a good deal to me!

We were the last table of the night. No one else was in the restaurant. I forgot to take back the card I paid with. Called immediately the next day and they claim it’s not there … food’s good, though. Used to come on a monthly basis but I am pretty upset and unfortunately will not be returning.

They employ very disrespectful staff and the taste is bad, they don't behave well at all.

The food was amazing. Totally recommendable sushi experience. The only I can’t rate with 5 stars is the atmosphere, because tables for 2 are actually really close to each other and you feel almost trapped sitting there. And the fact that it’s so full makes the environment quite loud.
Besides that, everything else was amazing. Service was really helpful and patient explaining the menu to us, because that was our first time ever there. Totally recommend it!

Definitely worth a try, they have specific set menus that honestly work very well! I would approve and this is coming from a person that has had a lot of sushi! It’s something different and it isn’t too costly either, this might be one of the best sushi places in the country. Came here on a whim and it was definitely delicious!!

I've been going to Sugarfish regularly for 10 years and no other sushi restaurant has ever come close to the perfection of their salmon sushi.

Delicious overall, except for the monkfish liver, too lumpy, not creamy and silky like it should be. The ambiance was a bit off – the music was too loud, and the AC was uncomfortably cold.

Some of the FRESHEST sushi I ever ever had. My box came with recs on which sushi pairs well with certain sauces. Took it to go but YUM!!!

The quality of the fish was superb and service but the rice was falling apart on every sushi piece we had which was disappointing.

I’ve recently visited Sugarfish on La Brea for both lunch and dinner, and I have to say, the lunch experience was definitely better. It made me wonder if they serve lower-quality fish or products in the evening, as there was a noticeable difference. At dinner, it feels like you’re eating in the dark—almost as if you’re dining in pitch black, which is odd. I assume they’re going for a cozy, intimate vibe, but it ends up feeling strange and disorienting.
For example, the eel we had for dinner tasted quite off, whereas it was just fine during lunch. The biggest issue, though, was with the nigiri. The rice served with the nigiri was constantly crumbling and falling apart, making it impossible to eat properly. It felt like a mess on the plate. I’m not sure why this happens—maybe they’re using a machine to form the nigiri quickly, rather than by hand—but I’d recommend they update their process. Properly made sushi should hold together, and this just didn’t.
We opted for the $59 premium menu, which offers high-quality fish, and I have to give credit to the knowledgeable staff, who are great at explaining the origins and quality of the fish. However, I also think they could improve their soft drink options—tea is fine, but a more modern and varied selection would be a welcome upgrade.
One positive is that service is included, so you get an honest deal in the end. Overall, I’d definitely recommend going for lunch rather than dinner. The food and experience just seem to be better in the daytime.

Exceedingly good sushi!
Service was better than perfect.
This one is smaller than the other Sugarfish I've been to and I rather liked that.

This chain is apparently famous well beyond the States, as I learned about it from my friends in Finland. So, kiitos!
I tried the "Trust Me" menu, and it was an interesting experience in a good way, especially since it was my first encounter with warm sushi. To be honest, I didn’t expect it at all, so it was quite a pleasant surprise. All the familiar ingredients take on a new character when served warm. I enjoyed it a lot!
The classic options were spot on too—I still remember the taste of that perfect salmon sashimi.
The staff was super friendly and welcoming. Even though this is a tipless establishment, everyone puts in their best effort. I even received a complimentary roll for a tiny mistake the kitchen made.
Everything is reasonably priced too, so I don’t see a reason not to come back again!
