I visited Sugarfish by chance on 21-Apr-2025, as I was staying at a nearby hotel whilst visiting DTLA. I love sushi, and was drawn by the online recommendations. My wife and I had lunch, and we did one of the Omakase options. The food is extremely good, and is one of the best sushis we have eaten anywhere in the world. What I would like to highlight is the practice of not requiring a tip, and making sure that their servers are compensated fairly. There is not even a section...
they wont seat you until your whole group’s present - pretty inflexible considering how the restaurant’s more than half empty at peak lunch hour (they only accept walk-ins) our server was pretty apologetic and said they have strict corporate guidelines to adhere to.
the food was solid. im a sushi snob in search for a quick bite in DTLA before catching a movie.. i had low to no expectations for a casual sushi joint in america but WOW the nigiris were EXCELLENT....
