First things first, the fish is great. The rice is warm. There might be too much emphasis on saucing their nigiri but I’m not going to argue with the chef. My biggest takeaway and the reason I’d never go back is that the service is bad in the worst way that service can fail a customer and that is by being purposefully obtuse.

Came in for lunch. Greeted immediately by a server who proudly pointed out their very visible signage about not making tempura or California rolls, which love the policy, but I don’t need you to point out the giant sign. Being made to feel like rube isn’t a great start. Then you’re told there’s a lunch special and a chef special. Cool. Get seated. No menu. Water comes and then the question “are you ready to order?” No, because I have no idea what’s going on. My wife asks what the difference between the chef special and the lunch special is and is told “the lunch special is a special for lunch” and at this point I want to walk into the ocean and catch my own fish.

You’re a sushi restaurant that is open for lunch on a Monday on Wilshire Blvd in West Los Angeles. Meet the customer halfway and just give them a piece of paper with their ordering options.

Fresh and nice quality fish but nothing that special. A little too expensive for tiny portion. Can easily find this at better price elsewhere.

Service was nice and the bathroom was clean but the sushi’s were below the quality of even 2.50$ revolving sushi bars.

Perhaps the quality of the fish was better but I couldn’t tell a difference.

Simply the best sushi place in California. Incredible quality and service, perfect portions and mix of flavors.

Sasabune is top tier quality. Their dishes have the perfect ratio, and taste balance. It's perfection, and after I ate there once, all of the other Japanese restaurants I've had just can't compare.

Oh and they have real wasabi, which makes a big difference (it has a hint of sweet, with hint of earthy / herbal flavor).

I love Sushi. I love high quality sushi.
Los Angeles offers a different level of sushi across the board.
I used to hear a lot about this place, but never got around to trying it until recently.
Wow.
Excellent Japanese Omakase experience.
Superlative blue fin tuna, maybe one of the top tuna bites of my life.
Staff were attentive and friendly. It was a subdued atmosphere but it was also a quieter night during the week.
The fish and variety were delectable and memorable.

I enjoyed my first omakase at Sasabune in 2000 and it made an impression. We were passing through LA yesterday so thought I'd share it with my wife after all these years. We both loved it. It's a no frills omakase, just excellent fish and sauces. We didn't finish the standard (non-exotic) because we got full, but we enjoyed every dish but the mollusks - those were just ok. The highlights for me were the skipjack and blue crab hand roll. Service was excellent

I’m not even joking when I say this the best sushi I’ve ever had in my life. Like this was so good I had to write a review. Me and my friend accidentally stumbled upon this place, had no idea what was in store for us. This was the best surprise I’ve had in a while, the sushi was excellent. Now I’m looking at the reviews and seeing even more stuff we could’ve tried. Not to worry though, we will be back.

Extremely fresh omakase and great service

Solid sushi place, relaxed vibe and pretty good service.

We got the Japanese Omakase set, and the standouts were the uni, tuna, and snapper. The octopus and scallop were great as well.

Not a bad value for everything that you get, so would recommend it you want Omakase without breaking the bank
