From the moment we arrived, the experience was disappointing. The check-in process was inefficient — it took nearly 20 minutes just to speak with the hostess. Despite having a reservation, we were seated at a poorly located table. Our server was inattentive, failing to take our order promptly and disappearing for long stretches of time. My husband's wine order was forgotten entirely and only arrived at the end of our meal, nearly 30 minutes after being placed and after I had reminded her. While the food itself was delicious, the overall experience was overshadowed by the lack of service. For the price point and the hype surrounding this restaurant, it simply doesn't deliver.
We were staying in DTLA and craved sushi - didn't want to fight traffic to get to westside so we tried this downtown spot. Location is top floor of a nondescript building - signage was not easy to spot but eventually found the elevator to get to restaurant. Darkly lit, moody space with nice views. Opted to sit inisde - smaill happy hour crowd as it was still early. Server indicated there are three separate kitchens so food comes out whenever its ready. The food came out nearly all at once! So I definitely suggest you order a little at a time. Ordered the yellowtail carpaccio and albacore carpaccio. Both were fresh fish and lovely flavors. Albacore was slightly oily (from vinaigrette) but otherwise delicious (crispy onions were great). The vegetable & shrimp tempura was dissapointing - inconsistent thickness of vegetables made some pieces noticeably undercooked while the shrimp were cooked perfectly. We also ordered the takami roll and the spicy seared salmon roll. These are large portions - probably could have just gotten one - and the takami roll was the better of the two. The salmon lacked any spice. Most dissapointing was the uni negiri (always my favorite) which tasted off - not fresh and sweet, creamy uni like you would expect. Only ate one of the two - a waste. We also ordered the chicken wing, seabass, and bacon wrapped tomato robata, Chicken wings were so small and dry, and the seabass was dry and fishy - would skip both of these. The bacon wrapped tomato was amazing - never had before but would definitely order again. For dessert we had the assorted mochi ice cream - great palate cleanser. Would go back for cocktails (japanese 75 is amazing) and appetizers to enjoy DTLA view but would probably skip a full dinner - expensive and inconistent food.
Great food and great views of DTLA! The sushi rolls were generous in size and delicious. Highly recommend!
Nice rooftop restaurant. The food was good, though expensive. For a high-end sushi restaurant in downtown Los Angeles, I was expecting the food to be better. The service was absolutely great. Our server was wonderful. The food came out slowly but she was very communicative with us. The ambiance is good, though it's really dark and it was hard to see the menus.
Food is always excellent, we have been going to Takami for 10 yrs and it never disappoints. Unfortunately, this time around the drinks were just horrible. We ordered a whisky abs club soda and got a whisky and coke, had to return it. Ordered another round of the same drink and got a vodka and soda instead of whisky and soda, had to return it. The other drink that was horrible was the Endless summer, the watermelon was so old it tasted like vinegar and had to return it. It took almost 10 minutes to get the replacement drink. The waiter kept blaming the bartender but at the end of the day the service was on the waiter who was taking care of us. Again, the food was excellent, service left us disappointed.
We got in just in time for our reservation and sunset which made the while ambience and setting feel so much better. Staff was very friendly and attentive and menu is very extensive and delicious. Thank you for making my partners birthday a memorable one
fOOD WAS EXCELLENT AS WAS BOTH DRINK AND FOOD SELECTION CHOICES. I WAS JUST ANNOYED THAT I MADE A RESERVATION ONLY TO SHOW UP AND HAVE THEM NOTIFY US THAT THERE WAS A LARGE PARTY AND DUE TO WEATHER THEY CLOSED OUTDOOR TABLES SO THEY NO LONGER HAD ROOM FOR OUR RESERVATION AND SAID WE ONLY HAD THE OPTION OF SITTING AT THE SUSHI BAR. NO ONE CONTACTED ME TO ENSURE THAT WAS A VIABLE CHOICE FOR ME AND I HAD ALREADY PAID FOR TRANSPORTATION TO THE RESTAURANT SO WE STAYED BUT THE CHAIRS AT THE SUSHI BAR WERE UNCOMFORTABLE, THERE WAS LITTLE COUNTER SPACE AND IT WAS DARK. AND THE RESTAURANT DIDNT SEEM TOO CONCERNED OR EMPATHETIC TO THE FACT THAT I HAD MADE RESERVATIONS THAT WERE BEING HONORED.
The sushi was very good. Service was very poor. Waiter overcharged us a hundred dollars took him 4 times coming back back-and-forth to correct the bill, taking an Additional 60 minutes of waiting.
Excellent sushi. The Tuna Tower and Takami roll were both some of the best I have had from the east coast to Hawaii. The shrimp in the dragon roll was not that good, but everything else was solid! The server and team work for service was on point!
What a gem! Easy valet parking at street level, then up to the 21st floor for spectacular views of the city/sunset! Incredible selection of sushi as well as grilled items, wide variety of wine and spirits, including sake. Beautiful place!

Very good food and very nice place, I didn't like it because they didn't want to change our table to one with a view of the city even though there were available tables outside.
This place is in a building on the 12th floor you need the address as it's discreet and you won t see it from tge street. The restaurant has a wonderfull c9llection of high end wines and sakes. We had lunch on the terrace open on downtown L.A. The nigiri sushi and sashimi are tiny but delicious.excellent service. Expensive.
Amazing! Our second time- once in 2022 & now in 2025. Perfect everything! Wait staff were awesome, views, food! Outstanding!! Can't wait to come back - next time in LA will come again.
Wonderful meal, amazing service and the views were incredible. Made some fun family memories!
The obvious is of course, the view which is spectacular and stunning. The experience is only elevated by the delicious food and amazing service. It was also really great because we were able as a family to have a nice birthday celebration and it didn't feel pretentious. It has evolved over a several years, but always a great experience.
