Tocaya Modern Mexican Reviews
We used to eat at least 3 times a week at the tocaya location in Scottsdale, Az. Return after 3 months to some crappy, sodium ridden, not as gluten friendly menu. Old owners need to buy this company back because the big company sucks.
First off, Terrific Customer Service at the Long Beach, CA location! The manager is amazing. So helpful with recommendations when asked, provides great detail, and is so enthusiastic about the incredible menu.
Tocaya at 2nd & PCH has lovely, fresh, bright, clean food. The menu is unique and flexible. You get to choose the protein you want, the cheese you want, whether or not you want your dish to be vegan. So many options and super tasty food!

I have to be gluten free. My wife has to be gluten, dairy, and grain free. But we LOVE Mexican food! This combo usually leads to a lack-luster dining experience, and we NEVER get to order desert - UNTIL we came here! WOW! We were SO SHOCKED that the staff was EXTREMELY helpful, knew exactly what was in there food with zero complaints or confusion (NOT common). The food was AMAZING - I actually got to eat a burrito for the first time in forever! Plus - the prices are super reasonable!...read full review

Tocaya Modern Mexican is a restaurant known for its Salmon Bowl and tacos. Visitors praise its amazing flavors and next-level service, with a friendly and knowledgeable staff. The spicy margaritas and vegan taco sampler are highly recommended, as well as the guacamole with plantain chips. The downtown location is suitable for a casual date and offers a clean and well-presented atmosphere. Many customers appreciate the fresh, flavorful food and the fast service, making it a great spot for lunch or casual dining. The quesco is surprisingly vegan and gluten-free, creamy, and delicious, often a crowd favorite. The Spicy Cilantro Vegan Chicken Bowl is a popular choice, featuring bright cilantro verde sauce and vegan chicken that doesn't feel like a substitute. The Hibiscus Ginger Agua Fresca is a must-try, with a perfect balance of sweetness and zing.
Customers describe the food as authentic and delicious, particularly the carne asada, fish tacos, and chicken adobada tacos. The gluten-free quesadilla has received positive feedback, providing a safe option for those with dietary restrictions. The guacamole, chips, and aguas frescas are also praised. While some have noted that the menu lacks explicit labeling for vegan options, the customer service remains excellent, with staff being kind, patient, and informative. Although Tocaya may not serve typical Mexican meals, the food is satisfactory, and the prices are reasonable. Overall, Tocaya offers a unique and enjoyable dining experience, perfect for anyone visiting the DTLA area.
