The food is AMAZING -- but the music is so loud, it is hard to think. It is pretty impossible to have a conversation with a friend -- and definitely would not be a place to have a business lunch. It has been this way for years, which is why I felt compelled to write this review. My best bet is to order takeout -- because the music seems to be there to serve the staff and not the customers. I just got back from New York, and I am amazed how NY restaurants create an ambience where you can talk to your friends. Definitely not the case at this Sunset Blvd location for Tocaya.

Happened upon Tocaya as we waited for our dog being treated at MASH. I have celiac and was so happy to find a place where I had multiple options. Food was delicious and service was quick and friendly. If we are in the area again, we will definitely be back.

Damn I really wish tocaya would stick to their menu and all the condiments that are specifically described on the menu as well. Sometimes well, now mostly all them time I order cotija cheese on my tacos and I got mozzarella cheese? C'mon! Also their fish tacos I ordered were basically fish sticks wrapped in a tortilla gross! When everything is right and all the ingredients are true to the descriptions on the menu it's good! Hopefully there's a change. Oh! And no more crushed chips please! /:

Nice spot, spacious high ceilings, airy & bright with picture windows and has parking - but fake plastic plants. Went for taco Tuesday lunch so the prices were good. The chips and tortillas are very tasty because they're homemade, which is a rarity in LA and should be appreciated. Like most restaurants these days, Tocaya is understaffed, so the dining room was littered with unbussed tables which took away from the ambiance. The tacos were okay but really why eat here when there are authentic Mexican restaurants in town? The problem arises because of the misconceptions about healthy ingredients. It's the tortillas that are the least healthy part of Mexican food, not salt or fat which is exactly what places like this skimp on and which provide much of the flavor. They skimped or forgot the consomme on my birria tacos but they brought some out to dunk which was good. I'll probably visit again for the Tuesday deals some day but overall I wish there was more sabor.

Fresh, affordable, and fast service. Especially for the area it's in, their prices are great. Super easy to go with a group of friends!

Food okay, not very flavorful. Ordered the quesadilla (meat had no seasoning) and salsa didn't have any heat. Not really busy at all during lunch time on weekend. Restaurant has a nice layout and design.

Surprised my yelp community gave this place over 4 stars. Beautiful ambiance. Friendly but kinda slow service. We were in the area and needed a quick bite so popped in. Not at all busy at 3 on a Sunday. Took about 15 min for them to make two to go burritos. Food is at best mediocre. Over $20 for a regular burrito and a kids beans burrito. If you're in a pinch, it's fine.

I was feeling vegany the day I visited, but when I got there, the Yucatan salmon chop salad was calling to me instead. It looked like it was going to have a lot of varied veggies in there under the salmon (kale, romaine, squash, beans, corn, red cabbage, radish)... but honestly every bite was 90% romaine, which was disappointing, because the salmon itself was perfectly blackened, spiced, and cooked just barely past rare, the exact way I like it. Thus, the dressing that came with it was sorely needed, which made me have to choose between using it for its intended purpose or using it to dip my slightly burnt-tasting plantain chips in. I know this review sounds like a two star, but the salmon really was fantastic, and while I usually couldn't care less about ambience, this is perhaps the most comfortable restaurant I've ever plopped my butt down in, with cushy lounge chairs complete with pillows, music turned down to an unobtrusive level, and beautiful high ceilings. This area of 'Old Hollywood' always seems to look like this inside, and I'm getting spoiled lunching here.

Ordered from postmates. The “large” chicken tortilla soup was just two extremely small servings separate. I also found it really spicy and couldn’t eat it! Usually soup has the avocado and crunchy toppings on the side so you can reheat later, I was disappointed they both already came with them all in the soup. I ordered the smashed pinto beans and found Them with a weird taste. The spicy turkey elote bowl was also too spicy for me but I suppose that’s on me because at least that advertised as spicy. Really disappointed overall in the portion and spicy level of the soup

Both beef taco and house quesadilla tasted good, I was surprised with how much mushroom flavor there was to the quesadilla. Good vibes too.
