I was craving a kaiseki meal for my birthday and discovered UKA. It is very hard to find a traditional kaiseki restaurant in Los Angeles. Everything was amazing, with incredible attention to detail in every dish. I truly appreciate the chef Mr. Mitsue and service for this exceptional experience.

The location and service are top-notch. However, the food itself is underwhelming, if not totally disappointing. The two cold dishes looked like the bento you’d get on an ANA flight, and the à la carte items were no different from what you’d find at any typical Japanese restaurant. It’s not that the food tasted bad, it just doesn’t justify the price or the Michelin star.

Tucked away on the roof of Japan House, we were transported back to Japan the moment we entered Uka. Very minimalistic interior but cozy at the same time. Wait staff and head chef were amazing. Every dish was beautiful and delicious, huge attention to detail. Pacing was perfect, and the beverage pairing let us discover new sakes. Highly recommend Uka for anyone looking for a refined kaiseki meal.
