I am sad to hear that the owners have decided to permanently close this location on Wilshire. This was the best pizza.

Ordered online, showed up at 10:15 to pick up the order I paid for, and the place is closed down. No phone service, nothing. Sign and website says open till 11p. Will not be returning.

I ordered pick up tonight and when I drove there to get it, they told me my order was cancelled because they ran out of the pizza I ordered. I didn’t get any notice the order was cancelled and no one asked me to order something else. I’ve checked my emails and texts- nothing. Also want to add, I ordered directly from Upper Crust and not from a third party.

Really good pizza and super friendly staff. I’ve been coming here everyday because it’s the only meal in LA under $6. The slice is the size of two and definitely enough for lunch. One guy always has ESPN playing which is fun. As a student I’m really happy I found this place.

Walked in to get a slice of pizza. Spinach artichoke. Crust was thinner and not doughy. Quality taste and quick service! Did not eat in but looked like a nice atmosphere??

Really good NY style pizza, my favorite in LA so far. One of only a few places you can get it by the slice out here. Prime Pizza is also good, but a little too chewy sometimes. Joe's Pizza is good too, but has really small slices. I prefer Upper Crust over both.

Ed: Second chance. After talking with management (here), I was in the area and decided to try it again, as well as Prime, on Pico. Don't ask me what I did with all that pizza.

The result was promising, this pizza had more cheese, and all or most of it appeared to be mozz or a cheese blend, I didn't pick up a Parmesan heavy flavor like the first (or maybe I was mistaken, it happens). The crust ring was prototypical NY style, not puffed up, and quite crispy this time (the first one was rather chewy, as I recall). But, it was still floppy, even right from the box before it went through traffic for awhile.

Why? The pizza appeared to be properly cooked, the bottom was light brown. Comparing it to the Prime, which was not droopy even after the ride home, it's evident that this crust is even thinner than Prime, very thin. I don't think it could hold up even if cooked longer. There are some who would appreciate a minimum of crust, and perhaps they could spin that to their advantage, advertise "the thinnest crust in L.A.", which must be accurate. People might forgive the flopping around.

Now, between the two, I liked this pizza much more, Prime was oily, there were too many mushrooms (I know, sacrilege, sue me), and I just don't think pizza should be orange (Prime is on the left in the photo). Some do, granted, pizza followers have no doubt seen the reviews by the dude on Evil Corp tube. But the flexible crust, that's not going to win many NY fans over, he certainly made a point of it. That was an unfortunate review, and not really warranted. I mean, look at that pizza, it's a beauty.

Bottom line, I still can't give it full marks in the NY style category, but I'm warming up to this pizza, and I'll get it again, the heck with the droop, as a counterpoint to my usual.

Finally, when you buy a large, some of it is going to end up in the fridge, and there's nothing wrong with a cold pizza breakfast. UC was one of the best refer pizzas I've had, the cheese solidified and cured the droop, and the outer crust ring even retained some crunch.

Prior text:

This pizza isn't called NY style, but I'd say that's what they were going for. The crust is fold over thin, and the cheese is more sparse. Even in that category, the pizza has a few faults. The crust is flat to the edge, no puffed-up ring (which fits the NY style), but what's there is chewy, not crisp. The sauce was a little thin, as was the cheese (kind of heavy on Parmesan). And the large I got was very floppy, I had to prop up the point to eat a slice, it wouldn't stand up even folded over. But, I live in MdR, so it was sitting in the car in typical miserable afternoon traffic for a while, that probably softened up the relatively thin crust. Maybe a little refresh in a convection oven would solve that, next time.

Will there be a next time? If I'm in the neighborhood and it's convenient, probably, because it was very tasty, I'll give it that. I seemed to have ended up with a big empty box, and that apparently means it all got inside me. Overall, it's a distant second to my two local MdR stalwarts, Johnnie's and Fat Tomato. But the thin crust is quite a bit different than those standard types, and it has a certain charm as a change of pace. I bet it would be much better right out of the oven, but it needs a bit more sauce and cheese in any case, even for a NY.

Access and parking are a bit of a challenge, if westbound Wilshire is jammed in the PM you may not be able to turn left into the alley. In that case turn left at Brockton and then immediately left into the alley behind Mickey D's. Parking is on the left, behind the building, squeeze in where you can. You can take that alley south all the way to Texas, then west to Bundy, where there's a light to let you into

We got catering from this restaurant at work today and I’m sorry to say the food was awful. The lasagna and penne noodles were mushy and way overcooked, and the tomato sauce had zero flavor. The Caesar salad was also terrible, the dressing didn’t taste anything like Caesar, and it was sour. There are tons of recipes on the internet for good marinara sauce, and pasta is cooked for 9-11 mins. I’m really not a complainer about food and I rarely write reviews but this food was so bad. Please do better
