I’ve been twice and really enjoyed both experiences. The green tea leaf salad, crab tostada, wings, and ice cream sundae are top tier. Can’t wait for them to open back up. I wanted to go today, but since they’re temporarily closed I’m leaving a review to encourage the owners to hurry with the renovations!

There aren’t as many attempts to elevate Korean food in the world of fine dining and Yangban shows you how to get it right.
Don’t show up expecting the place to conform to the usual stereotype of Korean cheap eats. Whether it’s the delectable green tea leaf salad, or the one of a kind matzoh ball mandu - expect Korean food interpreted like you’ve never experienced before.

Its unfair not to give this restaurant a 5 star review, everything, including food, service and ambiance are first class. Even something as mundane as banchan was meticulously prepared with new discoveries and delight to be found in each and every of the five little dishes. Tteok was not only delicious but creative. But why did I feel like I didn't get blown away? Perhaps it was because I came here for Korean food, and if you were a Korean food lover, you would know how good and completely satisfied good Korean food can make you feel. The feeling that you can throw your calories calculator out the window and somehow able to eat three times more meat than you normally would. That's the Korean food that I love, and Yangban is not that.

Playfulness and expression are evident across much of the menu in this cool and vibey space. After ordering at least a third of the menu, it was hard to pick a favorite because everything was just so good. Cocktails are excellent and they even stick the landing with an excellent cup of coffee. An easy five star experience.

Seeing a concerning downward trend here. Got the pre-fixed menu for the second time, and while some items were as great as before, chicken wings, tteok, ban chan, main, deserts, the first course and the salad were a downgrade, pretty simple and almost seem like cost cutting. I also didn't like that some of the courses were brought out at the same time, so one dish is getting cold while you eat the other. Our waiter was not very attentive and not well trained, in an upscale restaurant like this you would expect the waiters to set the table properly. Hopefully this was just an off-Monday. While I know Mondays are not the best days to eat out, food quality and service should not be inferior to weekend days.

We got the Prix Fixe menu and it was astoundingly good. The wings stand out among the other excellent dishes for being superbly tasty.

They accommodated us as walk-in’s and gave us enough time for the prix fixe

Giant portions

One of the best meals I’ve had in LA. The prix fixe for $95 was well worth the money, very high quality ingredients and beautiful plating, but best of all, it was a ton of food! Definitely come hungry. My partner and I came here for our anniversary and they gave us a small glass of champagne to celebrate, which was a nice touch.
And the vibes!!! I came here once before they redid the space (which reminded me more of a deli/ cafe/ cafeteria), but they’ve managed to transform it into a hip, contemporary, sexy spot that makes you feel like an A-lister.
The only minor criticisms I have is that we were seated at a smaller table, and while I assumed the booths were for parties over 2 people, two couples were seated in booths immediately after us, so it would have been nice to have a booth since it was a special occasion. Service could have been slightly more attentive, as we did have to ask for our server to order another drink, but overall wasn’t bad. Everyone was really professional and friendly.

The tasting menu had a wide variety of quality ingredients that when combined together failed to please my taste and apparently my stomach this morning.
The crispy tomato toast paired with soggi Uni shook the mediteranean man out of me, making me wonder what was korean about that bruschetta. I would have enjoyed both - separately
Banchan was served without the mains, it’s a detail but it sets the tone as to how non traditional the restaurant is. The cucumber cumin was great but again I failed to understand what was korean about a carrot-dates-pomegranate banchan. I tried to convince myself that the pear-avocado and mustard banchan must be exceptional since everybody was raving about it but it just wasn’t good and left me puzzled.
The waiter presented the tea leaf salad as the best ever. Having been to Myanmar, I politely contained myself not to disagree. He then proceeded to squeeze a slice of lemon bare hands on our plate, let’s say it wasn’t the most appetizing way to start the dish. I guess I am a snob but I would have prefered lime and to find the taste of the fermented tea leaves instead of this « Sweetgreen » version of the dish that has nothing to do with its origin nor korea.
The rice cake mushroom cream tasted great but the texture of large mushroom cubes with the rice cake made me feel like I was eating a piece of wetsuit and I am not kidding.
I don’t pretend to be a chef but the salmon was undercooked and probably got the best of me. The shortrib was excellent and felt good after the rollercoaster of experimentations.
Dessert waved goodbye to any expectations I had left to find korean food at this restaurant, with the most american largest and densest strawberry cheesecake slice. It tasted great but I wish the journey would have brought me to Seoul not Brooklyn.
Although Yangban describes itself as a culinary conversation, it is one I wish could have ended when I left.

We're ready to go back! The food was great - our waiter and the other service staff were friendly and attentive. It's clear they take pride in both the food and the space, which is beautiful.
