Lovely bistro with awesome French food.
Lovely food, service, atmosphere
The food is very good, the service is great with a nice atmosphere. We keep coming back because of the food.
Delicious French cuisine.
Great experience overall.
Highly recommended!
Duck confit is normally on the dinner menu
I recently had the pleasure of dining at this charming French bistro and champagne bar, and it was an absolute delight from start to finish. The cozy atmosphere is perfect for an intimate dinner or a fun evening with friends, and the adorable little patio area adds to its appeal. The food is outstanding—each dish beautifully crafted with fresh, high-quality ingredients—and paired perfectly with an impressive selection of champagne and wine. The service is beyond friendly, making you feel right at home.
Since taking over two years ago, the new owners, D’Avonny and Adam, have truly transformed this place into a gem. Their attention to detail and warm hospitality shines through in every aspect. Whether you're looking for a lovely night out or a venue for a future event, this bistro is an excellent choice. Highly recommend!
The BEST French spot in Los Gatos....we are blessed to have this wonderfully warm and welcoming, experience here in our hometown. The menu is exceptional and service is equally grand! The owners remember you and treat you like family. Superb service and lasting friendships are found at Epernay!!
Vegetarian options: We are vegetarian and pescatarian and Epernay offers a great selection of choices.

We first encountered Épernay Bistro while on late-summer architecture tour in the Los Gatos area, while looking for a place for lunch. We'd already booked a lunch reservation; however, in route there, we drove by Épernay and my wife exclaimed, "Oh, French bistro and champagne bar! Yes!". With that, I knew we'd have to find an occasion to come back.
So, when my wife recently received a well-deserved and -earned promotion at work, I knew Épernay was going to at the top of the list to celebrate at. When I looked at their menu online (epernaylosgatos.com seems to be a bit broken at the time of this writing) and saw they featured Billecart Salmon—my wife's favorite—by the glass on their champagne list, that sealed it.
So, on a recent Saturday evening, we ventured down to Épernay and thoroughly enjoyed our four-course al carte meal there. Our hostess and waitress, who also turned out to be the owner, was friendly, informative, and attentive while also not making us feel rushed. My wife, of course, started out with a flute of Billecart Salmon. I enjoyed Los Gatos' finest eau. For our first starter course, we shared and thoroughly enjoyed the beef tartar and smoked salmon tartar special—both were delicious, the second more notably and uniquely so. For our second starter course, we shared the baerri caviar toast which was memorably outstanding. For our main course, my wife had the filet mignon and I had the sole sautée. This was the only hitch of the night. My wife had ordered the filet done medium but her medium got mixed up with another diner's medium rare. Our waitress immediately recognized the error and committed to and did correct it; however, the second-pass felt like it lost something in both presentation and palate on the second-pass through the grill. My sole was well-executed and solid but was missing a
je ne sais quoi (lemon? shallots?); I felt like I'd done more memorable sole with beurre blanc at home. For our final dessert course, my wife ordered the delectable chocolate mousse and I had the light, subtle, evanescent, but tasty lemon sorbet.
All in all, we had a delightful and memorable meal and event and will certainly be back to Épernay Bistro in the future. As we told our waitress/the owner, a restaurant like Épernay would certainly clean up in our own downtown—we regret they aren't closer to us.

2 stars is very fair in regards of the expected style and service. Food is barely ok, not horrible, but nothing memorable. Portions are very small and no sides are included (mussels with no fries included is a sacrilege, and it doesn't come cheap). This is very expensive for how little you get.
No bread is included, even as an apetizer. For a French restaurant, that is a miss and a shame.
We were still hungry and went for a second lunch elsewhere afterwards...
More concerning, is the general attention to details and maintenance:
-Table clothes are stained.
-Napkins are stained as well. Mine clearly showed a lovely lipstick color.
-Flowers on all tables are withered.
-The rest of the bigger plants are plastic. At least they didn't withered, but it looks too fake.
-Decoration is overflowed of empty wine and champagne bottles. Even if there were good bottles, time to move one, it is not a recycling center... Definitely missing some coherence and cleanup.

Having been to many French restaurants, I would rate Epernay as average. The food was decent, but not exceptional. The steak tartare was one note with the capers being the strongest flavor, I'm used to a little more spice and a finer ground of meat. The potatoes from Beef Bourgongne were very firm, flavor was nice, beef more dry than juicy. Vegetable risotto could have had some visible vegetables and herbs added, pretty bland. The baked oysters and French onion soup were very good.

Very nice classic French bistro. The Epernay burger was very good, and so was croquet Monsieur. Lite french music outside and good service.
