Food here is amazing. Great cocktails solid beans and rice with a surprisingly good burger. I usually get the fried chicken though.
Best fried chicken in the south bay. Great happy hour.
Good items to try: voodoo daiquiris, po boys, oysters.
The food is authentic and delicious. But $30 for a bowl of Gumbo is overpriced. Didn’t find a single piece of crab or sausage in the whole bowl. Service is always great. I’ve been twice and I’d go back, I just wouldn’t order the gumbo.
No shrimp and Grits? Inquiring minds want to know
Hushpuppies.
Po Boy.
BEIGNETS 🤤🤤🤤

Good food. The portions are just right. The menu periodically changes. Would come back here again. The half part seems like a bar so can get loud.

Every dish was great. I loved the red beans and rice, the fried chicken was juicy and crispy, the ribs special was tender and smoky. I would eat here again in a heartbeat.
Only feedback is: could have been spicier :)

So oversalted after being sent back for being oversalted. Can't see why it's liked.

A nice restaurant with a unique vibe, not your typical place. They serve Southern-style food with plenty of shrimp and pork dishes. They serve fresh oysters!

The simple menu clearly displayed their dedication to excellence, as the po boy was flawless. Miguel took wonderful care of me.

Hellooooo Ramos Gin Fizz! If you're a fan, you know how hard it is to find this beverage properly made. I tried their "clarified" version as well as the standard; both amazing. Best Beignets I've ever had. Great service. Nice outdoor patio if you want to bring your dog. The food is over-the-top fabulous. The folks in that kitchen are preparing their dishes with love and pride. And it shows!

We first went to The Bywater soon after chef David Kinch (who also owns Manresa Bread and Manresa restaurant) opened the restaurant in 2016. We've always enjoyed the food and drinks, but this time four of us came down with Norovirus the day after our visit. It was horrible with diarrhea, vomiting, chills, blood in stool, and blood in vomit. Two in our party were hospitalized as a result.
This was the absolute worst experience of any restaurant we have had in our lives. This food poisoning was also completely avoidable if the restaurant practiced proper hygiene or kept employees home while they were exhibiting symptoms and for 72 hours afterwards. Norovirus is easily spread when someone who has Norovirus handles or prepares food after using the restroom and doesn't thoroughly wash their hands.
No one in our party will ever trust eating at The Bywater again.
