Food was OK to good, staff is definitely not your typical Santa Ynez vibe more let’s say Bay or LA - restaurants are tough to run so I wish them luck

We loved Mattei's Tavern and our fantastic servers, Jeremy and David. I think we were there on the last day the chocolate souffle was on the menu - you should bring it back! It was fabulous.

The atmosphere was lovely, the service was off the charts and the presentation and taste of all the food we ordered was beyond delicious. The cauliflower, filet mignon and fish were so flavourful and cooked to perfection. We definitely will be back and highly recommend it.

Very slow, very loud, salad drenched in dressing so that no veggies were tasted. Raw tuna was a small amount of tuna on a pile of avocado. Too much heat. Bread had no flavor. Who puts mushrooms on scallops? Sat over an hour between salads and second course. Over the years we have dined at Matteis many times. Disappointed.

Mattei's Tavern has been on my bucket list for Los Olives for years, but I've never managed to snag a reservation until this trip. I usually don't eat so early (5:30) but it looked worth it and boy was it! I consider myself a foodie and have had many great meals but nothing I've experienced I this area even comes close to the dinner we had there last night. Starting with cocktails, a nice change of pace after drinking wine all day, the Uni Tostada and Chickories salad were both delicious. We decided to mix it up and order a bottle of French wine with dinner (don't shoot me! lol) and the sommelier Daniel was lovely, we drank a 2020 Samur Cab Franc that was delectable. For main dishes my wife had the Duck Cassoulet and I had the Pork Chop which was bone in and sliced w sweet peppers, grilled pineapple, and garlic rice. I swear that rice had crack in it and if they sold it I would gladly play whatever asking price to be able to take some home. For dessert we had the coconut rice w/mango sorbet and the blueberry cake, both of which were very nice and Daniel paired a lovely Semillon to go with it. I've had dinners in L.A. before that were twice as expensive and not half as good. The dining room was comfortable and relaxed and the service was impeccable, a great example of how great service can elevate good food to another level. I haven't felt this way about food in this area since the first time I tried Industrial Eats, this has become another must stop when we visit this area, which we do often. Hat's off to the chef, sommelier, and our waiter Chris for an exceptional evening.

I'm on a no oil , vegan diet , which means i need to call a few days prior to making a reservation to determine if the restaurant can accommodate my diet . I was assured by a restaurant employee that they can accommodate including a protein . Sadly , the was a communication breakdown and I ended up with a plate of carrots . They made no real effort to prepare a hearty vegetable meal.

It was a hit and miss. The bread was delicious that we ordered. As well as the crispy cauliflower. Wine was very expensive but delicious. Our pork chop was also quite good. But the broccolini that we got was really unexciting.. and the dessert was incredibly over sweet. This apple thing. But the waiter was so kind and so nice. His name was David. And he did comp our desserts as we did not care for it. So overall I think it's a good restaurant but I'm not sure it's the best!

It's definitely an experience dining at Mattei's Tavern. It's like traveling back in time. The ambience is amazing...the little touches here and there. The service was impeccable as was the food. We will definitely be returning! Highly, highly recommend it!

You're lucky if you get the opportunity to dine at Mattei's tavern. Luckier still if you had Keoni as your waiter. When I mentioned that my girlfriend was vegan, he went above and beyond to ensure she had a memorable meal. He brought a special vegan salad that was both creative and delicious and later surprised us with a dessert that was a real treat. His attention to detail and genuine care made our evening truly enjoyable. We left not only satisfied but impressed by his exceptional service.

The food was great but service was lacking. We had a hard time getting a refill on our coffee. Once we were done eating our server was no where to be found. We had to ask at the front for our bill.

My husband and I had dinner here on a Tuesday evening while on vacation and it was exquisite. We had bread, tuna tartare, the petite filet, the pork chops, the blueberry cake and an affogato as well as drinks. Everything was fantastic. The dishes were cooked perfectly and the portions were on point. We were able to finish every bite, but not left hungry. The service was phenomenal. Staff were knowledgeable without being pretentious, remaining very approachable. Just a divine experience overall, which I expect at that price point.

We came for dinner. Drinks at the bar were lovely with great service. Diner started well. Service good and appetizers were delicious. Main courses were good. I’d expect at least this quality from an Auberge restaurant. We had ordered the soufflé when we place our entire order. We were never offered a dessert menu. Nor did anyone ask if we’d like more wine or a cocktail (wine glasses empty for over 10 minutes) I know this all sounds petty. But again, this isn’t Dennys. Service charge auto for patty of 6 so we did communicate the lapses. Manager came over to make things right and took dessert off the bill and allowed us to determine our own tip. Appreciated. What really put me over the top and prompted me to write this review was terrible.condition of the restroom!!! One stall out of commission. No toilet paper. Again, is this an Auberge property? They’ve got some work to do. We won’t be back.

We had lunch here and the food was good, the service was excellent, but the tab was outrageous. We split an app, my husband had a sandwich and I had the mussels. Add to that 2 ice teas and the bill came to $120!! They said the tea was black, but they failed to say that it was infused with flowers! I'm very allergic so I couldn't even drink it. Also, they should do something to dampen the sound. It was really noisy and there weren't that many people there. Would I go back? Hard no.

Staff was so welcoming and helpful. My husband had the chicken and waffles and chicken was so moist! Unlike other restaurants, there was no pressure to order quickly. We enjoyed the beautiful decor and sipped on some drinks and ate an appetizer before enjoying main entrees. Delightful afternoon!

Once again, my friend and I enjoyed the ambience, food and service at Mattei's Tavern for breakfast on our day trip to the area from our homes in Morro Bay. It was the perfect start to a lovely day spent in Los Olivos and Solvang, wine tasting, shopping, enjoying the fine weather, and picnicking at the beautiful Santa Inez Mission. Kristen, our server, was so personable, attentive, and knowledgeable. I definitely want to come back for lunch or dinner, and will let others know about our good experience.
