Real de Oaxaca is located in an adorable historical plaza. The interior is beautiful, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and it is the perfect spot for a wonderful meal with friends or loved ones. However, the outside looks as though it is abandoned, with a desolate looking patio, so guests must walk up to the entrance to see the “open” sign. The food is consistently spot-on perfection. The tlayudas are incredible, described as a huge thin tortilla topped with lard, beans, and choice of toppings like string cheese, beef, or chorizo. The memelas are a must, and the chapulines are absolutely amazing. The enfrijoladas are very tasty. The different moles are delicious, with the dark mole being a standout. The Mangoneada is a delicious mix of mescal, mango, and chamoy. The horchata con tuna y nuez is super unique, and the cafe de olla is delicious. The carne asada is very good, the guacamole is great, and the handmade tortillas are well worth the extra charge. Be careful when ordering extra ingredients, as four strips of epazote cost 6 dollars. The cocktails can be very dry and low in alcohol, and pricing is high. Service can be fast and thoughtful.
