The Sunset Restaurant

I brought an East Coast client here for dinner because there’s truly nothing like a December California sunset — and The Sunset Restaurant delivered perfectly. The dining room glows at golden hour, with huge open windows that bring the ocean right into your table. It’s such a classic Malibu experience — warm, relaxed, and never overcrowded. Parking was surprisingly easy too, which is rare for a beachfront spot. Our server was fantastic: friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The food was excellent, beautifully presented, and timed perfectly so we could enjoy the sunset without feeling rushed. If you’re looking for a true “Malibu evening” — great food, ocean views, and that effortless coastal vibe — this is the place. Always a solid choice for locals and visitors alike.

Very dissapointed with the food. The best item we ordered was the fresh oysters. The rest were very bland and lacking in flavours in general. Biggest disappointment was the lack of fresh lobster at a seafront restaurant. I was really craving lobster dishes. The o my one on the menu was lobster tacos, which the waiter said “its not a whole lobster, it's just the meat we get”. And possibly pre oily frozen as the flavor and texture were way off. Everything else such as the tuna tartare, beef wagi meatballs, calamari........ needed lots and lots of basic salt. I was so disappointed as I was looking so forward to dining T this cute beachfront restaurant.

Overall, pretty average. Not bad, not great. Just... meh. Lack of attention let things fall short. Good location, food certainly could be better. We had clam linguine and the wagayu burger. Clams were cooked well, just lacked depth of flavor. Burger was similar. Caramelized onions were no where near caramelized and still crunchy. Doubt we'd go back.

Wonderful time at a place with a beautifully resilient history and servers with knowledgeable suggestions for a tasty experience.

We visited The Sunset Restaurant yesterday, and the location alone makes it worth a stop. The restaurant sits right next to the beach with an incredible ocean and sunset view — truly a memorable atmosphere.

The food was average — not great, but not bad either. Flavors could be more expressive, though portions were decent. Service was fine and timely.

Overall, this is a wonderful place to enjoy the sunset and ocean scenery. Come for the atmosphere; the food is secondary.

The Sunset is in a great location for sunset views. We'll have to come back for dinner. The food was a 4 out of 5 and there are lots of options for seating with views across the street to the beach. The waiter was a bit gruff with us but overall got the job done.

We had very special treatment by the young lady serving as the hostess, the busboys, and our server Scott.

Food and drinks were outstanding, service was great. Would definitely go back and highly recommend.

Wonderful sunset dining experience out on the patio. We enjoyed some wine along with the delicious house made guacamole and chips to start. The bolognese and linguini with clams entrees were both fantastic. We enjoyed the tiramisu for dessert to complete a wonderful meal! Service was great too, highly recommend for a great dinner in Malibu!

We were celebrating our engagement that happened moments before our reservation on the beach. We were sat quickly which was great, but we ordered a bottle of champagne and some cocktails and didn't receive them for like 30 minutes. Then we waited another 15 minutes before the waitress took our food orders. We barely saw the waitress the entire time we were there, didn't get any refills and then waiting another 25 minutes to get the check. From the time we sat down to the time we left the restaurant, we had spent 2 hours and 25 minutes at the restaurant in total. The service was so bad. The drinks and the food were delicious, but not nearly enough food for the money you paid for each dish.

This restaurant was so chic! I came here for a Victoria’s Secret fashion show watch party and it was so nice to be by the ocean. The atmosphere was so amazing and I’d love to return! Thank you for having us!
