They have the best donuts and pastries, hands down! Everything I've tried has been good. They cut the turkey fresh for their sandwiches. Everyone is very friendly, and the atmosphere is welcoming. I love this place! I grew up in California, my family would visit Schat's in Bishop whenever we were up that way. I haven't lived in CA for a very long time, but we visit periodically. I discovered the Schat's Bakery in Mammoth a couple years ago on one of our trips. Now it's a must on our list - we go miles out of our way to get some baked goods; & we get extra to take on the road with us!

I was severely mistreated here by the older woman who works there- perhaps the owner? I came in with my service animal and she wouldn’t serve me or let me buy baked goods. I told her my dog was a service animal and she still would not serve me and was extremely rude, telling the other employee there not to serve me. I was so upset that I got my service animal documents to show her and she continued to be mean and say that he didn’t have a vest on and it’s required. I informed her it’s not required to have a vest on but she asked if he was and I told her yes and was happy to show her documents. She yelled and was nasty and we ended up leaving. To have someone treat me like this when I have a dog with me to help with a medical issue is beyond me. Never will return.

Got an eclair and it was so moist and fluffy. A bit on the pricey side but The creme inside was fresh and home made. They also have a HUGE selection of teas so if you like tea then this is your place. I got the Vanilla Creme and it was delicious. Also a sandwich shop inside.. I didn't get lunch but plenty of people did and they all looked very good

We were in Mammoth for five days this time and we were at the bakery shop every single day from the day we found it. can’t believe we’ve never been there before and it’s just amazing! the coffee the tea… I love how they brew the tea specially, a lot of choices to choose from! the croissants are amazing the texture, the flavor and the sausage and eggs they put in between. And also, they have fresh sandwiches in the other side of the hall. We love the roasted turkey which is flavorful. We absolutely love that their desserts there. The cinnamon roll would be my favorite. I guess the service quality really depends on which waiter or waitress… after all we will be back again once we’re back in Mammoth.
This cake was amazing.. The addition of a mix of nuts added the perfect crunch, nutty flavor, it balanced the sweetness perfectly. It looked as good as it tasted. I definitely recommend it.
The Bishop location has been a go-to for nearly 50 years, so I was happy to find this Schat's, only to learn that they keep the prices secret until you are being rung up. Why, I wondered? So I asked the cashier if there was a menu and was advised to make my selections then ask the price at check out if need be. How awkward and potentially embarrassing! So I asked the prices of a few items and they were high (e.g.,, a cup of orange juice is $7.99, $8 for a single cannoli). So it's no wonder they resort to ambushing customers at the register! NO-sir-ee, not me, I'll wait 'til I get to Bishop. (same name, different owners, i learned.)

Wonderful bread , danishes, scones, you name it. Great for stocking up to take stuff home. Eating in is just OK, not a lot on the menu and kind of a cafeteria eating area, but OK. Decent coffee.
