Waited over 20 minutes after getting 2 sodas. No one came to take the food order. Went up to the bar to pay for the drinks then I'm asked if we want to order. Upon asking for a manager, I was told there wasn't one and she was the only one working. No one sitting at the bar had to wait to get their drinks poured. She had a bad attitude.
A fun place to watch sports. Food is very good.
Seriously, the worst service. Two “bartenders” sitting at a table while all the bar guests had empty drinks and waiting to pay to leave. What a joke. Glad the food is good.
Grunions in Manhattan Beach isn’t just a bar—it’s the neighborhood institution that manages to feel like a dive, a Cheers-style comfort zone, and a secret foodie haven all at once. And baby, the kitchen here goes off.
Even the beer-battered chicken tenders—yeah, the thing you’d roll your eyes at on most menus—are crispy, juicy, and wildly addictive. They’re not trying to reinvent the wheel; they’re just doing it better than anyone else. And if you’re lucky enough to snag one of their daily specials before they sell out (trust me, they will), you’ll quickly realize this isn’t your average sports bar coasting on wings and nachos. These specials are curated, limited, and made fresh—not just leftovers or close-to-expiring afterthoughts like most spots.
Owner Rob? A gem. (Relax ladies, he’s married—I’m just giving credit where it’s due.) He’s got that perfect balance of chill and charm that sets the tone for the whole place. I love him to death and truly the reason I’m a loyal patron. The vibe he’s created is what keeps locals and loyalists coming back, including yours truly. And when it gets busy? Even the kitchen staff pops out to help—yes, the back house hustles with a smile. That’s family energy.
Grunions is the only Manhattan Beach spot I’ll genuinely miss when I move to Oahu. So if you’re smart, you’ll pull up, order whatever’s on special, nod at Rob and savor the hell out of it.
My boyfriend and I live close by. We usually walk down to the pier, but found this place. We have yet to be disappointed. The wings, chili, stuffed jalapeños, steak sandwich, burger, etc. are all delicious! (We don’t choose healthy here lol) The bartenders are attentive and friendly, and we’re not there enough to be regulars, but I definitely notice some of the same people every time we are there. Highly recommend this “homey” bar in a not so “homey” town. I used to bartend and this place makes me miss it! 🍻

Do not come here if you are Black. You will be ignored by the waitstaff/bar tenders. I went with a friend today around 7:40pm August 24th. There was a male and female behind the bar. Neither of them greeted us or asked to take our order. The female looked at us and continued a casual conversation with someone. The male walked past us without any acknowledgment of our presence. The only reason they get one star is because it's required for the review.

Owner and his staff is awesome. Above average craft beer menu compared to similar bars in the South Bay.

great food friendly staff love the food and the bar staff very welcoming also nice looking female staff! 5 star 💯#
Sadly my hamburger order was not put in so I sat and watched people who came in after me complete their meals while I waited for 1 hour for my burger. Waitress didn't ask for second round of drinks until 45 mins and that's when she put my order in I'm sure. Just took it in a to go container. Was a great burger although a bit cold by the time I got home. I'm sure this was not the norm but it was my experience.

Service took soooo long. Food was no good. Server didn't seem to care, but she did appear to be the only one. Came on a Tuesday night. The place wasn't busy, but can see how it would be hard to be the server and bar tender for the whole place.

I can't fairly rate the service because they are so understaffed the staff that is there work there tails off they really try hard but it's painfully slow to get anything... It's too bad because it's a nice setup with plenty of TVs and room to eat and drink. Just no one to bring you the food and

Just stopped in to unwind after flying back from South East Asia. Very nice place. Arrived after the kitchen had closed. Still, we enjoyed the chips and salsa and the drinks. It was perfect.

Every time I’ve gone in to grunions it’s been pretty bad but this last time did it for me. The bartender seemed too drunk to function. I tried asking her for a drink about 5 times and she would nod at me, then go sit at tables with other people and hang out. The very nice busser was the only one who took my drink order . It’s crazy how this place is still open. I’m all about dive bars but this place is the worst I’ve been to ..

I went there twice in one month and on each occasion they submitted a charge to my credit card that was $.90 more than what i wrote on my receipt, which i know was correct because i know the percentage of tip i always use. I called and spoke to the owner, Robert who took all the info and said he'd get back to me, which he never did. they would rather lose a customer than give up $1.80.
