Worst services ever when your order waiting when your husband has already. And waiting. My husband had to speak up to get attention.

I came to Joey With a friend recently and the food was really good. I got the Korean Cauliflower wings and they were made to perfection!

Get better service at Norms. Food was really good tho. It's a little loud if you're trying to have a nice date night.

I went here 2 nights first night service was great, second night service was good when we got there then our server disappeared and never came back…a new server eventually showed up a minimum of 20 minutes later. Food and drinks were good. The corn guacamole was really good along with the tuna salad and poke bowls, the fish tacos were overcooked and really dry. The passionfruit margarita was really good

All I can say is that I wish that you would not have changed the recipe on the spicy tuna roll. I don’t know, was it nine months ago? A year ago I don’t even know. It used to be our favorite place to go for the spicy tuna roll. Now it’s a different roll and we don’t like it nearly as much.

I recently dined at Joey in Manhattan Beach with a group of 11, and unfortunately, our experience was far from what we expected from a restaurant of this caliber.

We had a reservation for 6:30 PM and had proactively updated the restaurant that our party size had changed from 13 to 11. Upon arrival, we were told the table was still being set up, which was fine, so we went to the bar for drinks. However, the bar setup was unnecessarily complicated, as we were forced to consolidate our drinks onto three separate tabs rather than having individual ones, which made the start of our evening frustrating.

Once we finally made it to our table, our server greeted us by stating that she would be removing a table because there were “too many.” We explained that we needed the extra space, but she insisted, despite our group still filtering in from the bar. When we counted the seats, we realized there were only nine, not 11. She initially argued with us about it but eventually admitted we were right and put the table back.

The disorganization continued throughout dinner. When our appetizers arrived, we asked for individual plates for everyone, and one guest was left without one. Rather than simply bringing another, the server insisted he should have one, essentially arguing again rather than resolving the issue. He was forced to eat off the appetizer plate until a plate finally arrived.

When it came to the entrees, my steak was ordered rare but was practically raw and overly peppered. I specifically asked for mushrooms on the side, but they were placed on top of the steak. Meanwhile, my friend ordered the same dish, received her mushrooms on the side as requested, but was missing mashed potatoes entirely—more evidence of careless service.

One of our guests also had water spilled on him because the server poured it directly into his glass without noticing his straw, causing an overflow. Instead of apologizing, she blamed him for not removing the straw—again, another unnecessary interaction that made us feel like we were constantly being challenged rather than served.

For a restaurant where steaks are priced at $70, we expected a higher level of professionalism, attentiveness, and hospitality. We spent well over $600, and while we were initially told gratuity would be included for a party our size, it wasn’t. Despite the poor service, we still tipped decently because we respect service workers, but frankly, the server did not earn it.

Beyond the poor experience, it’s also worth mentioning that the dress code for female staff is concerning. Seeing women required to wear short skirts, low-cut tops, and high heels while delivering subpar service raises serious questions about the restaurant’s priorities. It would be one thing if the food and service were excellent, but when both are lacking, it makes for an entirely disappointing dining experience.

Having also visited Joey locations in Seattle, I’ve noticed a pattern—poor service, subpar food, and a corporate culture that seems more focused on appearance than quality. We won’t be returning, and I’d recommend others think twice before dining here. A restaurant’s leadership sets the tone, and until management prioritizes both staff treatment and customer experience, I can’t see this location improving.

Update: the food is still fantastic! I had to stop when visiting. Steak and sushi highly recommended. Little sad with my lemon drop martini - I don’t know if it was the house vodka or the lack of lemon that made it off.

Absolutely delicious! We’ll be returning.

We walked in and put our names down for a 30m wait at 5p. Not bad. We were offered complimentary champagne which was light and fruity. The atmosphere was very inviting with good music. Love that you can wait outside or visit the mall.

Once seated the waiter was very helpful. They do have a kids menu though not written (chicken tenders, pasta, sliders). I always carry crayons and paper which was a good thing here.
We started with the hummus plate which did not disappoint.
For dinner we had the salmon, poke bowl, and kids sliders. My husband said it was one of the best poke bowls he’s ever had. The salmon was unbelievably delicious. The kids loved their sliders (my husband sampled them and said they good).
We also ordered the donuts for dessert and they were fantastic! They were served on a bed of lite pudding.

I should likely knock off a star for for one kid’s plate coming late (this led to minor problems) and the other kid fries were cold and not very good… but we really had a nice time. Benefit of the doubt this time!

The steak and sashimi combo is the thing to order here ! It’s great for the price. Most other dishes I’ve tried here have been good but not great. Often, I do come back for the sushi / steak combo ! Service is always rather solid and the heated outdoor area is nice to sit in.

Miranda was our server for a table of 10. She had amazing, positive energy, was very friendly, menu knowledge was great, and she was consistently at our table whenever we needed anything, anticipated our needs, and delivered whatever we asked for very quickly. If you head to Joey, make certain that you ask for Miranda, she’ll make your experience, and your day, much better.
