since the moment we walked in, we were welcomed and the hostesses were incredibly friendly. after we were sat our waiter greeted us and he was absolutely fantastic. super friendly, helpful, our water was never empty and he gave me a great recommendation for a cocktail. the food was delicious as well and they even gave me a cute dessert for my birthday. overall an excellent experience and would def return
Service started off pretty bad; we were sitting at our table for quite a while (at least a full 15 minutes) before anybody came over to even offer us water let alone take our drink order. To their credit, they realized their mistake, apologized profusely and were able to recover from a rough start. All of the food that we had was quite good, and the steak was cooked and seasoned perfectly. They offer these sauces with their steaks, but imo the steak was seasoned enough it doesn't need any sauce. 1 small gripe is I wish they had valet parking, but that might be a Manhattan Beach thing that doesn't allow them to have valet.
My experience in the past has been Management seems to choose who is invited to sit at the bar. They will remove people who have waited and extend privileges to those who are in Favor!
The Arthur J is always a great experience. Best Caesar salad I've ever had, love the flavor of the petite filet. Great martini before entree and glass of cab with dinner. Been coming here about 5 years and will keep conning back!
I've had Arthur J on my list to try for a while, so when I was in the area (from Los Angeles) for the day I made a reservation for dinner. Sadly, the restaurant didn't live up the hype. I ordered a filet and the waitress mistakenly noted my order as a petite filet. The filet was cold when it was brought to me. I told the waitress she made a mistake with the size of the steak and she offered to swap it out but I didn't want my friend to have to wait on my food to be re-made. They ended up taking my steak off the bill without me asking, which was classy and a nice move by the restaurant. My friend ordered the Sunday special, French Dip, which sadly was not great (especially when compared to Hillstone's French dip). The meat on the French dip seemed more like Gyro meat, and the au jus was more like a gravy. The Parker House Rolls, Beef Fat Fries, and Grilled Broccolini were good. We also had to wait awhile and flag down waiters to have our drinks refilled, which seemed strange for a restaurant of this caliber (they didn't seem to be short on waitstaff since many people were working, but our waitress just didn't check in). They brought a baked Alaska out for us at the end of the meal as a treat.
Went to celebrate anniversaries & a birthday - the PERFECT place! The staff was fantastic - they all made us feel special and appreciated. Anything we needed, they were there. By the end of the night it was if we'd been going there all our lives. They have a wonderful wine selection and the steaks were perfect.

This is a bit of a mixed review as we went in July for my boyfriend’s birthday for the first time and had a wonderful experience that left us recommending Arthur J to friends and families.
We went with another couple from out of town last night and it was rather disappointing from the start. We waited over 15 min for our table (and it was the 9pm service so we were quite hungry). Once seated, the waiter got our water and it took a while before he came back for our orders (seemed like he forgot about us). The apps were good, and my boyfriend said his steak was very good, but mine was rather chewy - the cook and cut were off. Had Baked Alaska for dessert, and the alcohol burned for a bit longer so it left a burnt taste. Perhaps they had an off night, but what would have been appreciated is if the manager or our waiter took better care of us and apologized for the time / checked on us.

Our first dining experience at Arthur J did NOT disappoint . The staff were very accommodating to our initial seating request . The Manager came over and welcomed us followed by history on the family of restaurants . Our waitress Blue ( not sure of spelling) was extremely attentive but not overly intrusive We had a variety of appetizers which all were delicious. I ordered Rib Eye medium well which was prepared exactly as ordered . This is rare even at the most exclusive steakhouses. We also had sea bass which was delicious , petite filet excellent accompanied by sides broccolini , kale salad, French fries , Cesar salad, and rolls . French fries are not your average fry and were surprisingly great ! Definitely a must try !
We both had the steak which is what they are known for. I had the petit filet and it was done to perfection and my husband had the rib eye and he loved it. The Caesar salad was on the small side but the dressing was very good. My husband had the buttered mashed potatoes and he enjoyed them but we both felt it needed more salt, which they did bring to us. The only downside were the cocktails - my husband had an old fashioned and I had a margarita - the ‘portion' may be typical but the glass was stuffed with ice and there was only about 3-4 sips in the entire thing. I would suggest you steer clear of the cocktails and maybe do wine instead. For dessert my husband had the apple cheesecake which he said was ‘good' but not great and I just had small scoops of the homemade vanilla and chocolate ice cream which was refreshing and not overly sweet. All in all, it was a fun experience but we enjoyed the beginning more when the restaurant was not crowded because it is VERY noisy when it gets busy. We could not really even hold a conversation across the table with each other - tables are also placed close together so it's not very private. So, if you are intending for a quiet tete-a-tete, this is not your scene. Eric the host was very nice and kind - thank you Eric! And the card for our anniversary from the staff was a nice touch. Great food here, especially the steak!

Food and the ambiance was amazing. Came in at 4pm when they barely open. Despite us having a newborn child and dressed casual, all staff were very welcoming. From the hostess to the waiter (Jay) made us feel right at home.
Now onto the food. If you like the taste of meat, I suggest you try the steak fat fries. What's not to like!? Meat flavored fries? Say less! We also ordered the beef toast. It's basically slow braised meat with pickled onions and some house made sauce on a piece of sourdough toast! The main dishes, filet mignon and lobster, were full of flavor and perfectly cooked. The lobster pasta was spicy, but a spicy that you can enjoy!
Arthur J is definitely a fine dining experience for those romantic evenings with your significant other or a group of friends wanting to you enjoy a nice dinner. The dim lighting and dark color scheme definitely sets the mood.

Came here for a wedding celebration after our civil ceremony and Jay took great care of us. The food was excellent as well, would definitely get the porterhouse and pork chop again.

Unfortunately terrible dining experience!!! It is so loud you can’t enjoy the food. We were seated, no over for twenty five minutes , got another 30 minutes of torture with the music blasting and bar noise. Do yourself a favor, save yourself 100’s of dollars do Not eat here!!!!

Was part of a work colleague dinner and we had super friendly and knowledgeable staff help us.
The scallops to start were stunning (sorry no pic as ate them waaaaay too quickly they were that good!)
The petit filet steak was cooked perfect for medium rare and this picture doesn’t do it justice as it was a lovely piece of meat.
We got a mix of sides and both the mac and cheese and the chips I tried were yummy, especially the mac&cheese which I could have eaten more of!
Will definitely be coming back!
