Valentine's Day preset menu was delicious. Service was very slow from checking in to getting our waiter to the table to take our order and finally take our payment. The atmosphere was casual and relaxed. Convenient Valet parking. It was our first time visiting Dear Jane, so we'll have to give it another try during not too busy time.
The food was fantastic. We showed up right when they opened sat at the bar an hour before our reservation and enjoyed happy hour. The appetizer were great. The food at our table was fantastic. The seafood tower did not disappoint.
Went for DineLA. We had the tuna tataki and oyster rockefeller apps. Tuna app was fresh with a good serving while oysters were tasty but very small. Entrees were the stars, with the beef short rib dish being the most delectable. Shrimp scampi primavera was delicious but shrimp were a bit overcooked. Deserts left us wanting. Passion fruit and berry pavlova was very sweet while the dark chocolate brownie was dry and tough. We had two mocktails which were overly priced and tiny portion. Overall, food and drink is overpriced and underdelivered on size and quality compared to the raving reviews about this place. Ambiance is very nice and the service is top notch.
What a great find in such a lovely location! The restaurant week menu was excellent! The greeting by the valet, the reception when checking in, and the server were welcoming! Early seating was perfect to be able to sit by the huge windows with views of the marina. We must return!
We loved the food and the ambience. Every dish was outstanding. We had asked for a quiet area because we are all in our 80's and hard of hearing. Our request was not granted, but hopefully we can sit in the less noisy room next time. Loved the emphasis on fish and so creatively prepared. As good as Dear John's is for meat.
Came here with my coworkers and the service was awful. Dylan came to save the day when he shouldn’t have - I’m positive he was the floor manager but unfortunately I had to flag him down because our assigned server (who I couldn’t even remember his name) never came to check on us and Dylan saved the day. Why assign a person who was tending to a holiday party , to a table who he clearly didn’t want to serve? He only came to try and make up for it by the time we were ordering dessert (which we didn’t). The calamari was extremely salty and the main dishes were nothing to rave about. Probably only worth it when it’s sunset. Do not spend your money here, LOTS of better places in the area. Thanks to Dylan for trying to save our dinner.

Cassie was our server and she was adorable, bright, friendly and knowledgeable. We really enjoyed her along with our wonderful meal!
Both entrées were not cooked completely correctly, the prime rib, much worse than the turkey. The slices of pie extremely thin the white staff was nice, the bar staff was nice appetizer was nice. The sides were OK except for the mashed potatoes which resembled instant potatoes. I just didn't feel like it was a good value in terms of dollars for the food. The ambience was great.
Outstanding view of the Marina; and outstanding food for flavor, texture and quality. We had the Thanksgiving special pre-fixe at $125 each. Portion control was small, so all the fixin's were there, but only 1-2 tablespoons each nestled together on one plate. I like more gravy and stuffing, and maybe some more yams, but not here. Amazingly, the apple pie ala mode came with a tiny teaspoon of vanilla ice cream. The three course pre-fixe was definitely over-priced by $20 or so, no value here. Finally— no dinner rolls! Oh well. What they measured out for us was ... superb! BTW...the unnecessary valet at $12 was just absurd, and an unfair tax on the evening.
It was quite expensive and although the food was delicious, I think bread or rolls might have Ben included for $125 per person

I have been to Dear John’s and had a great steak dinner in a dark and funky environment, so I was really looking forward to Dear Jane’s, their sibling restaurant in Marina del Rey, specializing in seafood. Unfortunately, it was pretty meh. Valet parking is $12, which isn’t bad, but weird when they have a giant lot right at the front door. The atmosphere is nice, facing the boats on the marina, and the sourdough and butter were a great start. In fairness, we also enjoyed the shrimp cocktail and wedge salad. But the killer moment was, because I could see the kitchen, I saw our entrees sitting on the pickup counter for a looong time. And then, when the staff picked it up, they held each plate directly under the heat lamps to rewarm the food. Blah! Our entrees were lukewarm and uninspired. Then our waitress completely forgot about us and it took forever to get the check. Finally, I really hated the “yacht rock” music they played, although it fits with being in a marina. The vibe overall is an elegant restaurant with good, standard seafood for older people who like yachts.

They sat us in the side room, which is incredibly boring and not why you go to a place like this. We had a view of an old screen door and other trash outside our window. You would think if the management cared about the restaurant that they would remove the junk outside the window. Worst of all, this restaurant is known for its fish. My outrageously priced piece of salmon was mushy, either poorly cooked or a bad piece of fish. This place looks nice, but is really not worth the outrageous prices.
No host at the stand when we entered but a guy told us he'd be right back and entered the bar for 5 minutes then returned, looked up the reservation, and walked us to our table. The smiles were lacking. Gorgeous view of the boats and nice lighting and ambience. However, the servers were very quick with no chit chat, but friendly. Sourdough was flaky but good, the butter shaped like a fish was delicious and very fun, and my trout almandine was exactly how I thought it would be. The bouillabaisse broth needed a little more flavor and kick but fish was very good. The coconut parfait dessert was excellent. Honestly, I wouldn't normally comment on the music because I love all kinds but the Stevie Wonder and Motown yelling was a bit much even for Saturday night. Not too loud but a bit strange while eating dinner. Would like to think some comments are helpful for the future. I'm a local and would like to return someday.
We were a little unhappy that our waiter was very neutral not helpful, really didn't care. In the past the service was always amazing. The food amazing ambience amazing overall everything was fine otherwise
For me, this is a restaurant where you should take family and family-friends. Easy valet parking, cozy location on the marina, sleek seating with maritime decor, classic (and strong) drinks, and a quiet ambience -- all make it a standout in LA, where oftentimes the quality of the food outstrips all the other aspects of the dining experience. As for food: we liked all the seafood options we tried (sea bass, bouillabaise, sand daps), and the burger was thick and juicy. Remarkably, we spent three hours talking and enjoying our three-course meal, and the servers were friendly the whole time and didn't rush us. We will be back!
