When our friends suggested we meet at Sugar fish for dinner we were excited. Our expectations for a great sushi experience was struck down from the time we entered the restaurant. Our party arrived in time for our reservation but we were asked to wait 45 minutes for our table. There was a waiting area but it was very cold. When we were finally seated it was in a very crowded and noisy dining room. The server dropped the menus on the table but it was almost impossible to read them because the room was so dark.My friend and I had the sushi tasting menu. The sushi rice was served warm, the nori wrapper was wilted and soggy, and no one seemed to care. There are many, many better sushi options on the west side.Vegetarian options: There were no vegetarian sushi options on the menu. At all. There was no cucumber roll or pickled plum roll or avocado. The only vegetarian dish that they could offer was edamame. That's a snack, not a meal.

Frankly, I used to be a big fan and have had the "Trust Me" to go easily over 10 different times. This time, it was mediocre. The fish truly lacked flavor. It will take a while to get me to return.

I had not been in a few years and I felt that the food quality has diminished. I do not know if it was a one off or specifically this location but I remember being blown away in a past and this time I was disappointed. Maybe it has passed its prime due to success, I will try again to see if I happen simply to have been in on a bad night.

Their take out is okay. The experience when you are there is really good though. They tend to have long waits which is a bit of a bummer, but just speaks to the quality of the food. The trust me experience is a MUST. Tried things I never would have tried otherwise and it opened up my palate to the possibilities! Sugarfish was the first place I tried where the rice was served warm and oh my god, it was transformational. It's hard to go back to anything else. I have tried so many sushi spots to try to recreate this experience but have come up short. I'm glad they've expanded their locations but they're still too far! Please open a sugarfish in Anaheim hills, yorba linda, or orange!

Embarking on a voyage across the culinary seas, our crew of 14 brave souls set sail on a Friday night, guided by the stars to a fabled eatery where the host, a seasoned navigator of the dining waters, worked magic to accommodate our sizable party. Splitting into two vessels, we docked swiftly at our tables, the anticipation building like the tide before a storm. Our adventure led us to feast upon the treasures of the deep, curated by the legendary sushi chef Nozawa, who bestowed upon us the "Trust Me" preset sushi menu, a map to culinary bliss. Each bite was a discovery of buttery textures and the fresh essence of the sea, a reflection of the quality that belied the myths of exorbitant pirate's ransoms. Instead, we found the bounty to be of incredible value, each piece of sushi a jewel in Nozawa's crown, none bearing the curse of fishiness, but rather singing with their own unique sea shanties of flavor. The rice, a trusty vessel on which these treasures sailed, held just the right texture, firm yet yielding like the resolve of a steadfast sailor. Despite the crowded tavern, our service was as swift and efficient as a clipper cutting through the waves, navigating the bustling atmosphere with the ease of the ocean's currents. Our port of call, though adorned with the simple elegance of a mermaid's grotto, provided a sanctuary from the tempest outside. The ambiance, a siren's song of comfort and charm, welcomed us with open arms. Mooring our ships was a task for seasoned sea legs (aka finding parking), but fortune favored us with a berth a mere stone's throw from our destination (a couple doors down), proving that even in the bustling docks, the sea gods smiled upon our quest. In this mystical sea adventure, where mythical sea creatures whispered tales of culinary wonders, we discovered a pirate's booty of bountiful fish. Our journey to this dining Atlantis was one for the annals of history, marked by a harmony of exquisite flavors, unparalleled service, and the camaraderie of good company. With hearts full and sails set towards the horizon, we charted a course back to the mundane world, the memory of our epicurean odyssey a guiding star for future gastronomic quests. Our verdict: a resounding five stars, a lighthouse for all who seek adventure in the vast culinary sea.

I've been coming here for years so shame on me for not writing this review sooner. Sugarfish is a consistently lovely dining experience. The food is always excellent and the service is good as well. The seating at this location is cozy, but it didn't feel like I was listening to other people's conversations the whole night, which is a big plus. Now for why I chose to write this review today... My friend and I were here last night for a catch-up dinner, and as we hadn't seen each other in some time we chatted past dinner service. Normally I'm filled with such anxiety when that happens but our server was SO nice about it. We were able to relax with our drinks and enjoy a little extra chatting time after dinner. Tips are not required but I gave my first tip ever because of the level of service we received last night. In this rush rush society, it was such a breath of fresh air. [PSA: Not an invitation to stay past the time when is acceptable. Just wanted to shout out the hospitable treatment.]

Parking for this place can be a nightmare at certain times but don't let that defer you. I have been a few times but forgot to leave a review! I always go with the don't think just eat option and I have never been let down. Every piece you will be handed is amazing. My personal favorite is the salmon sushi with sesame. The warm rice really takes it to another level and the quality of the fish is unreal. All of the "trust" options are great if you bring an appetite.

I stopped by this location today on a whim. They came through for me at Sugarfish, Marina del Ray. Excellent service. Quality food. Highly recommend!

Very cozy, intimate style setting. Arrived around 5pm on a Saturday and it was a 30 minute wait. Luckily, there's some other shops nearby and you can browse until they text you when tables ready. They have an easy to follow pre set menu to choose from, or you can do your own thing and order Al la Carte. I opted for the "trust me" menu and for $35 it was a really good amount of food. I was actually stuffed after. I was bummed to hear they were out of toro but the yellowtail was pretty good which they subbed one hand roll for. The fish was pretty good, everything was sooooo buttery. The only thing I would've changed is that they add a lot of soy and other sauce to some dishes (like the sashimi was drenched, and some of the tuna rolls). It was just too much sauce. Other than that- everything was great. The service was also pleasant ! We were too full for dessert so I'll have to go back and try that out. I did order a hot green tea and it was pretty good. This location is pretty and right by the water. Will definitely return and highly recommend!

This is my favorite sushi spot ever! I always keep coming back. Waitress forgot I ordered extra sushi though but at least I wasn’t charged for it. Otherwise never had a real bad experience!Parking: There is a huge parking lot (free)
