I was recommended their new veggie zombie and I was very pleasantly surprised. I normally get their cheeseburger one but this tasted REALLY good. I'm laughing cause I ate it so fast. It has portobello mushrooms in it and I believe mozzarella with possibly parmesan and garlic seasoning but I'm not 100% sure. Whatever they did it was great. Highly recommend and would eat again.

The people that serve the sandwiches are really nice and I love coming here whenever I have time. If I could I'd buy all of their originals. Will keep coming here!

I wanted to like this place more than I did. The food itself was okay, but the overall experience left a lot to be desired. For a spot called the Zombie Shop, the atmosphere felt surprisingly bland—especially for Christmas time. The decorations were minimal and didn’t really add any personality or seasonal vibe, which was disappointing.
What really stood out in a negative way was the restroom situation. Not having a working restroom during the holiday season, and right around peak lunch hours (around noon), is a big miss. It honestly felt like basic customer needs weren’t being considered, which is concerning.
On top of that, the pricing doesn’t quite match the portion sizes. Paying around $7 for a zombie that small just doesn’t feel like a great value. If the portions were bigger or the experience was stronger, it might make more sense.
There’s potential here, but it feels like they’re not really trying to elevate the experience. With some attention to atmosphere, basic amenities, and value, this place could be much better.

Please don’t eat here. This was the last thing I ate tonight and I can’t stop going to the bathroom and right now I just projectile vomited the cheese zombie. I’m contemplating if I should go the ER cuz I feel so sick.

The cheese zombie is a type of sandwich invented at Mt Diablo High School in 1963. The Zombie Shop proudly continues the East Bay tradition to this day. The sandwiches are fresh, hot, and inventive. The service was great, the cashier treated me like a friend. We got 3 different flavors of zombie, our favorite by far was the Jalapeno Popper flavor. We were stuffed, and only paid about $20. Highly recommended for a quiet bite in Martinez.

Quick grab and go location.

The stuffed buns are located in a hot box behind the counter so you get your food right after ordering.

So if you know what a baked Chinese pork bun is... this is the American version of it. The buns themselves are soft lite and airy.

We got:

Cheese... imagine American Cheese stuffed inside a bun... ok... not really something to write home about. $4

The Brisket... more like a hand pulled pork in a sweet sauce stuffed bun. I was hoping more for a sliced brisket. Something with a little more texture. The cheese on the beef was not fully melted and incorporated into the brisket. $10

Cheeseburger....now this one is winner. Really smells and taste like a McDonald's cheeseburger. Excellent flavor and texture. The sliced pickles really off set the oily beef patty. $7

Where else can you find food prices like this around here?? The zombies are great and the prices are equally great! I got the jalapeño popper zombie but I look forward to trying more varieties in the future.

The food is great but they’re literally never open at the time that google has listed and they’re very rude when you ask why their store hours say one thing on their door but they don’t actually operate within those hours

Showed up on a Saturday. 75% of the menu not available. Product sub par. Won't be back.

The Zombie Shop in Martinez is hands down the best place to get your cheese zombie fix! These warm, pillowy rolls stuffed with gooey melted cheese are pure comfort food at its finest. Each bite takes you back to the nostalgia of old-school cafeteria lunches, but even better. The bread is perfectly soft, buttery, and baked to perfection, making every cheese pull incredibly satisfying. If you’ve never had a cheese zombie before, this is the place to try one—you won’t be disappointed!

Beyond the amazing food, the shop itself has a fun and welcoming vibe. The staff is super friendly, and you can tell they put a lot of care into making each batch fresh and delicious. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick snack or grabbing a bunch to share, The Zombie Shop is a local gem that deserves all the hype. If you love cheese, bread, and nostalgic treats, this spot is a must-visit!
