Feb 2024A very nice place to dine. The food was excellent, and the service was very good. My wife had the lamb shank and almost swooned with pleasure. Small dining room, cozy.

Very casual spot to get food and a drink. Full bar. Bright, open with dining in, bar tables and a nice outdoor space. The flatbread pizza and deep fried beans are wonderful. Beans were crisp. We had lemon cheesecake (my pick) and carrot cake for dessert. Both were good. Server was great. Highly recommend.

We had a fantastic experience at Sage — so much so we came two nights in a row. The restaurant is nestled inside an early 20th century hotel and has a quaint Downtown Abbey-esque vibe. Even though the restaurant probably seats 50 covers they stagger the seating to allow real attention to each table. Despite being grubby from the day's hiking, we felt immediately at home and received excellent service from our waiter Elizabeth. From a food perspective, the standouts were the lamb and chocolate tart, although we didn't have a bad dish on any of the nights we went. We also couldn't get over the modest bill for the quality of the meal. Highly recommended as a standout restaurant in the area.

VEGANS come here!!!! BUT do call ahead and ask them if they can prepare a vegan dish. They said they can make vegan entrees, but they need to know in advance. HOWEVER, I called at 4:30 and they were able to prepare the best tasting vegan pasta I’ve ever had in my life by 5 With vegan cream sauce and vegan cheese, broccoli was perfectly cooked and not overdone, grilled break, white bean hummus and grilled veggies were delicious as well. They do vegan pasta better than most vegan restaurants I’ve been to. This place could do more vegan options, I’m sure they would kill it! We would love a few more vegan entree options and a vegan dessert (chocolate, caramel, lemon bar) they do have mango sorbet, but I like more decadent desserts. 10/10 go here! Backyard seating is so pretty.

Fabulous find in a small mountain community. This restaurant is located in a historic building. The dining area is charming with white linen table cloths & fresh flowers. Our server was friendly & attentive. The wine list is impressive! The dishes on the menu were innovative and nicely presented. We started our meal with the complimentary chef surprise. We ordered the YUMMY rustic french bread w/pistachios, olive oil & balsamic vinegar. My husband chose the butter lettuce, soft boiled egg, Pt Reyes blue cheese dressing & candied pistachios and I chose the shaved fennel, cress, strawberry, chopped hazelnuts and basil white balsamic vinaigrette. Both salads were lovely and generous portions. For our main entrees, I selected the sage cream bucatini w/acorn squash, shallot, mushroom, pine nuts & parmesan. The serving was huge and I had 2/3 of it boxed to take back to our hotel and it made for another entire meal for two. The dish was rich & delicious. My husband enjoyed his Painted Hills 8oz beef filet, cachaca, dandelion greens, burrata, guasacaca & Aleppo garlic oil. He discovered that dandelion greens are not to his taste. The dandelion greens were tough. For dessert, we shared an apple tort served with lavender whipped cream. The evening made for a special belated anniversary celebration!
Honestly, this was one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in years. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. We sat in the dining room at a white tablecloth-and-flowers table and started with two generous glasses of Moet Chandon. The bread and olive oil with pistachios was the perfect start to a memorable meal. My husband had the black cod with a butter lettuce salad and I had the water cress, fennel and strawberries salad, perfectly dressed with a very tasty dressing. I had the burrita appetizer as a main dish which was just right. We shared the affogato dessert, the perfect finish for a memorable meal. You don’t expect to have such a great dining experience in a little mountain town. Don’t miss this place if you find yourself in McCloud.
The ambiance and atmosphere is so unique with the gardens and antiques. The owners are very personable and helpful. Breakfast was great and the room was very clean and comfortable. Our room had an Ansel Adams decor that we enjoyed. The food at the pub was delicious and original! Staff at the pub were very nice as well.
Upscale, tasty, and unique. Good services.

I was absolutely blown away by the food! Our waitress Elizabeth was so friendly and helpful. She guided us to a delicious mushroom polenta for a starter. The seasoning was perfect and there were so many wild mushrooms! Then we each had a salad. My husband had the butter lettuce with homemade blue cheese and candied pistachios. I had the wild, rocket, blueberry salad. Both were out of this world. Then we had the cod and sage cream bucatini. Couldn’t get enough! The worst part of the whole experience was that I got full and I didn’t have room for the lemon bar dessert! There will have to be a next time!
We have coming to McCloud for eight years now and we always stay at the McCloud Hotel and we usually stay two to three days and eat at the Sage Restaurant at least two of these nights. ALWAYS have excellent service, excellent food and friendly staff. Above and beyond. Treat you like royalty and we will keep on coming back. This restaurant is a must try!!

We had an incredible meal at Sage last night! We went all in. We started with wild mushrooms and Swiss chard over polenta. It was creamy deliciousness. We had a little French radish starter with butter, pesto and salt. Super yummy. The pickled fennel salad was beautifully presented and also so tasty. I had the lamb shank. It fell from the bone. I ate the entire thing. I just couldn’t stop! My husband had the chicken and he also left a clean plate. The desserts were also wonderful. For a fine dining experience in McCloud, I highly recommend Sage. What a treasure!!

Not as good as the last two times we went. Especially when your spending more than you did the other two times. My first visit was chicken tarragon. Excellent with mashed potatoes. The polenta under my chicken was about two table spoons. And the black cod smelled strong. Sorry guys but not up to your regular standards.
