Recently, a group of us dined at Oak+Violet in the Park James. While the food quality ranged from satisfactory to good, the pricing was unusually steep compared to similar establishments in the area. The wine pours were notably small, and the pace of service was unexpectedly slow, even though the restaurant was nearly empty at the time. For dessert, we ordered cheesecake, which unfortunately was served with shaved ice that melted and left the crust soggy—a disappointing finish, especially considering the premium prices. Overall, the experience fell short of expectations for both value and service.

Superlative appetizers and main courses enjoyed in a low key setting with ambient live music and great service that was offered with finesse and sincerity. Conducive for good conversation with colleagues we had not seen in a long while.

This is a lovely space at the hotel....comfortable seating. The musician on the night we were there was fabulous - he played the guitar, harp, etc. Very talented and lovely to listen to. We were a party of 6. All salads were excellent and interesting. Chicken entree was very good - tender and moist. 2 people got the mixed lamb grill - one person thought it was very good, the other person thought the flavors were nice but the meat was very tough. One person got the black cod and said it was excellent. 2 people got the steak and said it was extremely tough. Unfortunately for us, we were there on a night when there was an event going on right next door and once the meeting broke up and people began to socialize, it was extremely loud and difficult to carry on a conversation.

We had a beautiful Christmas Eve dinner for 5. The staff was highly attentive, friendly and professional. The meal was delicious, the wine list impressive and cocktails refreshing. Highly recommend the molasses cake for dessert. We had the steak and two guests are Vegan and had the gnocchi. There was a slight issue with the gnocchi that had eggs, the chef switched to Fava beans. The flavors were very good. I ask that the kitchen consider using an egg substitute so the Vegan guests may enjoy what looked like an incredible pasta dish. Sydney at the front of the house took outstanding holidays photos for us. Thank you. We'll be back.

Beautiful restaurant with great staff but poor quality food and undercooked steak even after sending it back. Wouldn't recommend for dinner.

The atmosphere was great and the staff were attentive and friendly. Unfortunately, the food didn’t live up to expectations. The gnocchi I tried was bland, and the dark chocolate mousse tart was just average.

My husband had the cod and it was the smallest piece of fish he ever had and I had the NY strip and it was very tough.

We tried Oak and Violet the other night as a treat and were disappointed. Both salads were excessively salted, and the steak I had was not nearly as good as the one I cooked at home the previous weekend. The service and atmosphere were fine but at this price point, the service, atmosphere, and food should’ve all been much better.

The server was great. He made all our experience exceptional. Food is good, chicken was so soft and white fish was awesome

We went for Thanksgiving dinner, the place and the service was excellent, the starters were very good, our favorite was the heirloom salad, the other one was very simple with less ingridients, the main course was amazing! We loved every single dish, only the meat I felt was to rare for me, everything was going great we had very high expectations for the dessets after the amazing dishes we had, but was very disappointing, plain colors, very simple, the lime cake extremely sweet, and the pumpkin pie with no flavor.
Still overall good experience but need change of desserts

Had a delicious Thanksgiving dinner for 5. Everything was perfectly prepared, generous portions served family style. We would go back again for a special holiday feast. Bob McIntire

We were seated promptly for an early reservation on Thanksgiving afternoon. It turned out what I had assumed was a buffet menu was in fact a complete turkey and roast beef dinner served at the table. It was a fabulous value with two huge and delicious salads and side dishes of sweet potatoes, cornbread stuffing, Brussels sprouts, creamed spinach, best cranberries ever, whipped potatoes, gravy, excellent horseradish and three desserts. Although the cocktails looked very appealing we tried a wine pairing that worked very well with a white for the turkey and a Pinot for the beef. An interesting Zin accompanied the three desserts. The early time meant the room was not full and the service was excellent; perhaps a little too attentive as we were asked by several staff about our food and wine a few too many times. However it was nice to know they seemed to really care about our experience. Valet parking was a nice treat.
