The best that I have found anywhere near Merced! Forget about the drive thru--Never back to Popeyes mac' n cheese which is totally greasy! The greens, the cornbread are off the hook!!

A soulful welcome to Merced!
The location The location is an older building in Merced, that formerly was a Hispanic restaurant, so don't be turned off by the building as it is truly an older building but there is some food love that comes from it.
The food We ordered the fish plate with two sides and requested The fish to be fried extra crispy. I can say with complete certainty that we were not disappointed, the food was prepared perfectly and served quickly. We did order food to go so we did not utilize the outside seating this time. When we open up the box inside of our car, good Lord it smelled like being back home in Georgia again. I can truly tell you it was difficult to take pictures before wanting to jump in. Besides that we chose were macaroni and cheese and collard greens, the mac and cheese always makes me nervous because most places that serve mac and cheese and call it soul food really miss the mark with it, but this was not the case it was cheesy, creamy, prepared with the perfect size macaroni along with that little touch of burnt cheese on top that just makes such a delicious crust. The collard greens were very tasty and the best part was they were not bitter, they were truly flavorful and only if I could have a larger cup of it lol. The fish was the showstopper as it was crispy, flavorful, and truly not overseasing or greasy at all. I have eaten at many different soul food places across the United States and this one has to be one of the best that I ran into during our time in California.

Greens and Mac and cheese are a Yass for me; and I’m picky about my soul food. Yams were good but potato salad was soupy, I didn’t even bother to taste it. Also had chicken and shrimp which was pretty good. I’ll be back.
