This is pretty much a hole in the wall kind of restaurant. My family and I love going here, good flavor and dishes come out very hot.

Ordered salt and pepper pork, seafood tofu clay pot and shredded pork with pickled veggie noodles soup for dinner take out. Asked owner Danny if he can have the chef do less salt and no MSG for our food. We are very happy that our dinner turned out so delicious, taste great than what we expected. Now we know Chinese food can be done without all the extra salt, oil and MSG.

As I continue to explore new restaurants in downtown Millbrae, I decided to take a chance and try out Gourmet Village. Being a fan of all things sauce, I decided to go with the baked Portuguese chicken over rice. This dish came out incredibly hot, so hot that you gotta let it sit and air out unless you wanna burn your tastebuds. The dish itself was ok, and I found myself adding more salt and pepper. The egg in the rice is a nice touch, and overall for the price and portion, it was pretty filling. My favorite dish had to be the salt and pepper chicken wings. A very classic dish that I really enjoyed. For $7.95, it's a great appetizer to start with. Came in after 7pm with plenty of seating available. There's no music or TVs playing, and with a near empty restaurant, it was definitely a put on the AirPods and listen to a podcast type vibe for this solo adventure. Food came out quick, and the service was polite. If you are looking for no-frills, big portions, affordable Asian fusion food, it might be worth a try for you!

I really like this restaurant after first try today. The must try is the curry that is so flavorful. I am loving it. I tried their cheese baked pork chop and white creamy baked fish filet. My orders are soooooooo delicious and size portions are generous and taste are just right, not too salty not too light. . See my photos attached. Great customer service. The waitress is super professional, nice and very polite. This is one of the few restaurants that I highly recommended! Must try :) Will definitely explore more delicacies from this business and introduce it to my friends and families.

Love this casual place with great cantonese style and Hong Kong style dishes. Price is right and quantity is good. Love their seafood chow fun, pan fried crispy noodle, braised ox tail with red wine and herb over rice, and sauteed okra.

Eat Here! Food is good and reasonably priced. Staff is always friendly and wearing masks!

The HK style pork chop rice with tomato sauce is DA BOMB! I love every single bite of it. The guy who works at the front desk is VERY attentive and polite, which is not common in any Cantonese casual dining here in the US. Food is great, I just wish they pay more attention to the interior decor and the ambience. But hey, I'm here for the Chinese food, the food quality is the #1 criteria to write this review.

My mom loves Gourmet Village and will usually eat there/order take-out from this restaurant every week or two (so glad they're still open during these times!). The 2 dishes I always request are: 1. Mushrooms with Japanese egg tofu 2. Fried pumpkin with salted yolk The egg tofu is so good and I'm so glad we discovered it on the menu. We just happened to order it by chance one day and have never looked back. The fried pumpkin sounds greasy, but it's actually not too bad. The salted yolk is very addictive though and is the real reason I keep going back to this place. I do think the portion sizes vary quite a bit. One day you get a substantially large portion and another day, it'll seem to be very small. If portions were more consistent, I would definitely give them 5 stars. I remember the staff being attentive and pleasant though. I've hardly used my Mandarin skills since living in STL for the past few years, and was grateful they understood and were patient with my fumbling Chinese.

They make the food I like well, big portion with a reasonable price. A great take-out place for me!

My girlfriend and I been coming to this restaurant "Gourmet Village" since they changed new ownership. We were happy to find another hole in the wall restaurant in downtown Millbrae. Their price is reasonable and the portions are large. These are the two essential elements for this kind of restaurant. Don't expect anything fancy, if you do, you will be sorely be disappointed. In a neighborhood restaurant it is all about large portions and reasonable prices. (Fancy and taste is secondary. It's a plus if you can get it.) If you're entertaining a large group people for dinner, (at least 3 or more people), it will be worth it. If it's just the two of you, (one elderly and one not so elderly), then it might not be worth it for you folks. UPDATED : Mama Chow decided to give it another try but this time with a fewer more people. The portion is a little bit larger. (The reason she like this restaurant is she like how their cooks favor their dishes.) She enjoy ordering their sweet and sour pork, it is a tough sauce to get it right, this dish is how she test how good the cook is, she also likes their Peking pork chops, it has just the right sweetness. When ever she is trying out a new restaurant for the first time, she always chooses a tough dish to test the ability of their cooks. The sweet and sour sauce is probably one of the hardest sauce to get right, most cooks generally make their sauce too sour there's not enough sweetness. Mama Chow said their cook knows what they are doing, their dish has just the right balance between the two flavors. (Mama Chow has owned and ran a few restaurants in her life time. She in her 90's and still has a strong sense of tastes and smell. She can be brutally honest and doesn't hold back on her opinion. (I think this is pretty much a characteristic of our culture, do you think?) So, give it a try, you might be pleasantly surprised! (We were!) PS. Mama Chow said, they might had changed their head cook. Their dishes seem to have gotten a different in taste. A little more tasters. Their prices has gone up a bit too but that's to be expected. Little brother also likes their rice dishes, his favorite: "sticky fried rice". He highly recommend this dish. A great family gathering restaurant, the cook is good, their price is reasonable and the owners are nice people too. (What more you can ask for?) they also have takeout.

It has been almost a year since my last visit. To test out how "real village food", ordered (1) Steamed Golden Pomfret Fish with Tofu in Black Bean Sauce; (2) Sizzling Chicken Clay Pot; and (3) Sautéed Sugar Pea Shoots with Minced Garlic. Fish was excellent. Chicken was very good (slight overcooked, maybe due to customer preference?). Vegetable was excellent. Food overall was 4 1/2 to 5 stars. Although the restaurant was almost full on a Sunday night, service was excellent. Left the tea pot lid tilt open, the server came almost within a minute and replenished with hot tea. When asked for containers to take leftovers home, they brought them over within a minute or two. Highly unusual good service for a Chinese restaurant. Highly recommend for those who like less formal cooking (country style home cooking) than Hong Kong Flower Lounge or The Kitchen.

Located in the heart of downtown Millbrae along Broadway Street is the Chinese Fusion restaurant. They have your variety of black pepper steak, baked spaghetti, chow mein chow fun as well as traditional clay pot and other Chinese dishes. We ordered the Salty Fish & chicken fried rice with the sea bass and vegetable and the eggplant in clay pot. And couple of bottles of Tsing Tao beer. I was so hungry that I forgot to take pictures of the food...... Agggghhh. Very tasty by the way.

I don't know if they deserve 2 or 3 stars. They were about to close in 30 minutes and still seated us. So I will give them an extra star for it. Food: 1.) sizzling chicken clay pot- 1 star. Taste is ok but it should change the name to sizzling chicken skin with bone clay pot. The portion is small and it's mostly skin with bone. It is cut into small pieces. It seems like all of it are cut from end of chicken wings. 2.). Salted fish fried rice- It's ok but I prefer those from other Chinese restaurant. I don't know if we just came in at the wrong time and chef are about to take their break. I passed the place a few times it seems not a lot of patron, so I am not willing to try again.

Service: the workers are really friendly and helpful Food: I ordered the fettuccine pasta with salmon and mushroom, it was really delicious! It has a strong garlic flavor! I also ordered the vegetable curry over rice, salt and pepper squid, and mixed fruit with salmon fried rice. Overall, all the food is pretty good!! My favorite is definitely the pasta! Interior: the interior is clean and spacious! There are some booths, some big round tables, and a few smaller square tables! Overall I would come back again!! The food is good and the workers are friendly!

New Ownership with menu & food improvements! Family oriented environment, excellent customer service, food quality AND portion is good, bathroom and the restaurant is clean as well. I always order my favorite. The Hong Kong style Pork chop over rice and my brother had the sizzling steak. Pork chop over rice; the portion was HUGE! I could not finish it. TO GO BOX FOR SURE! Reasonable price for the portion. It's a lot bigger portion compared to other restaurants I've been to. Perfect amount of sauce (just the way I like it) for the pork chop AND the rice. I definitely enjoyed my food even more so since I haven't had it for so long! Sizzling Steak; came with black pepper sauce and poured onto the sizzling steak. Perfect medium rare and my goodness.. the pepper sauce was seriously on point! I had to steak a few pieces of my brothers steak because it was delicious.
